What a game to be at. Top 5 in terms of baseball games I've been to, probably #2 overall.
Black out was in full effect.
The crowd, was rocking and on their feet almost all night.
John Danks just went right at the Twins last night and took advantage of a team that looked like they couldn't believe they had to play this game.
Power Monster and his rumored army of 100,000 quitter Sox fans (I hear Mayor Daley was even in this group) weren't the only ones that wrote off this team. As of Thursday, when they finished off the sweep of the Sox, the Minnesota Twins wrote them off too and mailed it in. In turn, the Twins choked the division crown away.
Back to Danks, 8 innings of 2 hit ball says it all. This outing alone helps solidify the fact that he's a stud in the making. To go out and pitch a game like this, at the age of 23, and cap off a season where he gave up 2 ER or less in 22 of his 33 starts. Just amazing
Of course some people won't appreciate who got him here. Kenny Williams is continuing to prove that he's the best baseball executive this city has ever seen. In 9 years as general manager, the White Sox have only 1 losing season, 3 AL Central pennants, 1 American League Championship and 1 World Series Championship. Oh, and those last two categories could still improve this year.
And while all of his moves don't always work (see Nick Swisher), the majority of them do. One would be hard pressed to find any executive that could matched up with these moves.
John Danks was on the mound last night, becoming an ace, while Brandom McCarthy was reflecting on a year that only saw him make 6 starts. Let's not forget that Nick Masset came the Sox way in that deal too.
Gavin Floyd, 17 game winner, was acquired (along with Gio Gonzalez) for Freddy Garcia. Freddy Garcia pitched 11 games for the Phillies and won one of them.
Orlando Cabrera was acquired for John Garland. (See previous post about what O Cab brought to this team in return for a mediocre starting pitcher) And while O Cab isn't a clubhouse favorite, he helped solidify a position that was a huge problem going into the 2008 season.
Q!, who missed a month and still finished .288/36/100, was acquired for Chris Carter. I won't blame you if you just asked 'who?'. Q! was probably on his way to the AL MVP until he got hurt and will still finish top five.
Linebrink was brought in and helped solidify the bullpen
The Cuban missle was brought in and will probably be #2 in ROY voting
Kenny Williams is a ### ####ed genius

I would hardly call this a choke. They chased the Sox for the better part of the second half and when it all came down to the brass tacks- they lost a coin flip and a 1-0 game. It could have went either way. The only one that could have choked here was the Sox. They didn't but you might want to get it thru that ego of yours- they have not won a damn thing. Win it all is the goal. Championship or nothing else.

didnt he bring in roberto alomar and sandy alomar jr (about 5 times)? those were successful. he also traded away chris young (but i think they got javy for him, who helped win a WS)
