White Sox 2011 Baseball (2 Viewers)

White Sox pitchers and catchers aren't scheduled to report to Arizona for spring training for another four weeks, but Jake Peavy appears ahead in his lengthy recovery from surgery near his right shoulder.

Pitching coach Don Cooper reported that Peavy, who suffered a detatched latissmus dorsi muscle in July, has been throwing off a mound.

"It's going well," Cooper said. "He's feeling better about his command."

In conversations and text messages, Peavy has revealed to Cooper that he has felt normal stiffness and rustiness at times. But Peavy originally wasn't scheduled to start throwing off a mound until the start of spring training.

Peavy's recovery will dictate whether Chris Sale will join the rotation until Peavy is ready or return to the bullpen, where he could be the closer. Sale, 21, posted a 1.93 ERA after being promoted to the majors last August.

"Everybody's got to be ready," Cooper said of his relievers. "Let's face it. From the seventh inning on, everyone's got to be on their toes, not knowing who we're going to choose. I want them to be mentally acute."

According to Jorge Ebro of the El Nuevo Herald, the White Sox have signed Alexei Ramirez to a four-year, $32.5 million extension. The contract also includes an option for a fifth year. The White Sox exercised Ramirez's $2.75 million option in December, but the two sides were expected to continue talks on an extension. The 29-year-old has a .283/.321/.430 batting line over this first three seasons in the big leagues. And even though we were hoping for more after his impressive rookie season, he has averaged 18 home runs and 72 RBI along the way while making some real strides defensively. It's a hefty commitment, but he should be a nice value if he is able to maintain the same production moving forward.

Hi what?
You've always been pretty vocal on the Cuban Missile. Figured you'd have something to say about the contract.

He's mashing right now and will probably mash during a few stretches during the season, but the dude needs to stay healthy.

Not a White Sox fan (not really a big baseball guy) but one of my former students just got called up from Charlotte.

Brent Morel, 23, hit a combined .322 with 10 home runs, 64 RBIs and 37 doubles with the two teams. Hit batted .320 with eight homers and 34 RBIs in 81 games for Triple-A Charlotte. He had only three errors in 63 games at third base at Charlotte, and he did not have an error in 17 games at shortstop.
:goodposting:
Very cool.:lmao:Is this the first time a student of yours has made it to the pros in something?
Brent Morel will make his first major league start at third base on Thursday afternoon against the Tigers. He'll play third in place of Mark Teahen, who committed two errors in Wednesday's loss. Morel, 23, batted .322/.359/.480 with 10 home runs and 64 RBI between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte this season. He struck as a pinch-hitter in his first major league at-bat on Tuesday.
Yeah this is the first time I've had a kid make the majors. Had a few bounce around the minors or play D-1.I guess Morel hit a dinger the other day.
:lmao:Nice poke to dead center on Friday night
Watching on TV now...just in time to see him make two errors on the same play :bag: . But also stole a bag and scored a run.

Bullpen looked awful, as expected, yesterday.
Sale and Santos looked good today. Thornton still waiting in the wings? Those 3 should keep the bullpen relatively stable if Humber/Marquez can add anything in long relief bullpen will be solid. Ohman.. OH Man get him outta here.

Sox fans should check out groupon soonpatio party is a fun time
fun is cool and all, but we actually like baseball and paying attention to the game.
Do you keep your own scorecard and everything?$49 for a party patio(food/drink included for 2 hours) and lower reserved ticket seems like a pretty good pricejust trying to help out my Sox fan FBG's who like to take in a ball game, and have a little fun while they are at it.

We did the patio party for opening day a bunch of years. In 2003, there was a 2 hour rain delay before the first pitch was thrown and they never stopped serving beer during the delay. :banned: :tfp: :banned:
