White's weight a concern (1 Viewer)

The radio in Nashville is shooting down any validity to this story.John McLain (Houston Chronicle) is on the radio right now (104.5 the zone) disputing the yahoo story. Says he talked to Jeff and others at the facility today and there is ZERO validity to him reporting over his 'playing weight'...
JM is more in the know w/ the Titans then most any other reporter with any other team. He told me that VY was going to Tennessee 48 hours before the draft last season and had the Williams to Houston story about 12 hours before anyone else. If he says the weight isn't an issue, it isn't an issue.
Maybe I'll keep him after all...

Nothing to see people!

Not a big deal, this kids weight is going to fluctuate. Let's see what he can do on Sundays in a feature role before we start writing him off.

Some poeple still don't get that LenDale fell to the 2nd round last year for a reason :thanks:

and let's wait until opening day to see who the Titans starter is...

"[LenDale] is no different than any other young player," said Fisher, who would not expound on White's reported heavy weigh-in. "He needs the competition. You don't hand the job to him. The job has not been handed to him. Hopefully we'll have somebody in there to compete with him."

If they are that concerned, then this just goes to show how bad the Titans are as an organization. They had Henry and C. Brown and they both left and now the only RB you have is one that you're worried that he can't even maintain his weight. Good job Titans FO!
You're jumping the gun. Fisher says the team has a plan. If they draft Marshawn Lynch in the first round, will you change your tune? It's way too early to assume Tennessee has dropped the ball here. There's plenty of time for them to make some moves. RB is not an especially tough spot to fill.
No, then more mismanagement. This team has many holes to fill. They draft L. WHite with 2nd rounder last year and had two good RB's on their roster. Now they let both good guys go and drafting another RB while not filling other holes with more pressing needs. I'm not saying White is blob of goo, but if they have serious concerns with how he stay in shape in the off-season...then why let the two better RB's go for absolutely nothing in return?

Assuming the guy is back in shape by preseason, what does it matter? Although this seems like a good time to try and grab White in dynasty leagues why owners are worrying about his weight in March.
I tried before, but this owner will have nothing to do with me in regards to trading his super sized combo tail.

When it comes down to it, maybe not a big deal IF he can get back in shape. Though I'd point out that if this is his regular offseason conditioning, he won't last long in the NFL. He's got some skills, but I think most start to wonder if he's just another spoiled gifted athelete that never had to work hard before. My beef is more in regards to how dumb the Titans FO appears to be. See my other posts, won't bring anymore boredom to the thread.

Exactly. There's no reason for him to be in peak physical condition in March. He's supposed to be in peak physical condition in September. Putting on 30 lbs in the off-season could be much more helpful to reaching that goal than not.

True. When you're 40 pounds overweight, you may be eligible for stomach stapling surgery. 10 pounds, not so much.

261 lbs.can we put Tenn down as another team possibly interested in Turner?!seems that way now, without Henry around, and with Lendale's weight problems. that was the knock on him coming out of college, that he's a bit of a head-case and doesn't take things seriously enough and has weight issues.

fluctuate? He will be great in commercials doing Pillsbury spots and when those shoots are over maybe he can fly to Japan and look good in commericals in a white diaper-looking loin cloth ....

You think LenDale's a Seinfeld fan?

I love you people bad talking him... you are the same disingenious people that turn around knowing your league mates read this board and try to get Lendale on the cheap.

I know someone who posted in this thread is doing that exact thing you are talking about.

And lets just look at it this way though, the mans work ethic is horrible. Do you honestly think the premier RB's in the league are letting themselves go even in the slightest? Do you think LT let himself even gain 10 pounds in the offseason?

Looks like he is taking over Cedric Benson's role in that manner. Last year, even when I had not been on the board, I could tell when there was a Benson thread as I would get offers of a mid to late 2nd or some rookie WR (not named Colston) for Benson. I traded White for Thomas Jones late last season so I will miss out all the fun with Lendale. That said, every player does have a price and if you can get someone "you don't like" at a favorable cost then you do it.

IIRC, Damien Nash came to camp at 235 or something and the Titan's promptly cut him. Nash claimed that he was cut without given a warning and had no knowledge of the Titans strict policy.

If Lendale is overweight, I doubt that the Titans handle it in the same way.

Nash is also 5'11 and small.Lendale is like 6'2 and has a much larger structure like Bettis.

Maybe "Lendale is "bulking up" this year just like Curtis Enis did the year he lost the Chicago RB job to James Allen.

To be honest, I am a Lendale White dynasty owner; however, I have set my expectations at probably 50/50 that he will ever be a viable starting NFL/fantasy RB. Lendale White could very easily turn out to be like Curtis Enis.

Great point!!! :D The true top NFL players don't allow it to happen, they take the offseason as serious as during the season. On another note where owners bad talk, but try to get players as mentioned in another post:When it comes to FF, I think most owners will take a gamble with potential...just depends on price. That again falls on one's viewed value of a certain player.

Biggest RB bust of the 2006 NFL draft. Both meanings intended.

It's an issue of maturity and dedication and work ethic that will have him out of the league before his time, and performing unimpressively while in the NFL. Even if LenDale WhiteCastle can go on some crash course to be in minimally acceptable shape by September, peak performance obviously is not his goal, and he's also a greater injury risk. Training for peak efficiency is what a lot of players are doing all offseason to be prepared for the rigors of 16 games rather than wearing down.

You won't see me trading for him for anything near his currently perceived dynasty value.

So...the bottom line is...the story is bogus and White is not heavier than during last season?
the vast majority of posts in this thread SINCE post #48 which casts the validity of the entire story into question seem to be ignoring this small point...maybe not everybody read through the whole thread & missed it... if that isn't the case, i guess people hear what they want to hear...

I'm guessing that post #48 is Fisher doing damage control, and based on White's history I'll choose to believe the "multiple sources" in the original post.

Link? Since when does an Internet message board poster supposedly hearing something on the radio have more credibility than

an article from a national NFL writer?

All I see is in post #48 is a word-for-word repost from a Titan's fan at TitansOnline.com

I (first person) heard the exact same radio program. Very credible national source said that Fisher and Reinfeldt told him it was not true. So, either it is not true, or there was a miscommunication, or they were lying to him. But...it wasn't second hand from another board.

JM is more in the know w/ the Titans then most any other reporter with any other team. He told me that VY was going to Tennessee 48 hours before the draft last season and had the Williams to Houston story about 12 hours before anyone else. If he says the weight isn't an issue, it isn't an issue.
;) 260  ;)

So much noise in the story.

If he really did put on the pounds then he is looking like a Ironhead Heyward or a Bam Morris. No way I compare him to Bettis. Bettis played with a chip on his shoulder, this guy hasn't yet.

If he didn't, well, then he has a better chance of staying healthy this year..

Thanks, that adds more credibility to the radio report.

I think the fact that he is showing up to the off-season workouts speaks volumes about his commitment to the team. If he reported in fat and decided to work out on his own I'd be more concerned. Right now I am happy with him on my dynasty roster.

Overweight or not...Tennessee was going to be RBBC this year...unless someone lit it up this year (did anyone really think LW was THAT guy?).

I said it in another thread: the Titans will draft another RB mid to mid-late (4-6), unless someone of great value slips, then maybe a bit earlier. Also, they will sign a value vet with a little tread left (1-2 years max - Dillon looks good here), a bit of fire burning, a decent attitude, that can pass block (really run block for Young) and mentor the young ones...

why guess when you can look it up, in case, like i said, people hear what they want to hear...it was a credible local reporter (backed up by colin, so that was an additional way of addressing the authoritativeness of the source), refuting reports from non-local reporters... its not unreasonable to think the local beat reporter may have some team sources himself...as to his history, it includes a career when he was times over weight & still broke school records for rushing TDs... leaving a year early... at a school where some of previous RBs include mike garrett, OJ simpson, ricky bell, marcus allen, reggie bush, etc... there are some pretty good RBs on that list... he also broke the record basically splitting time with bush... if he had been the feature RB he would have shattered it, & at just about any other school in the nation, no doubt he would have been the feature RB... he just happened to go to same school & same time as one of best RB prospects in ncaa history...* for those wanting to refute the refutation... any TEN homers that would say the cited local beat reporter ISN'T credible or authoritative?

One of the things you learn reading these boards is that people are primed to rag on certain players if given even the slightest reason to do so. White is definitely one of those players who has become a magnet for pot shots.

Personally, I think he's a good back. There have been a lot of rumblings about his work ethic, but few credible pieces of evidence. I still think he has a chance to become a good starter in the mold of Stephen Davis.

So true.... :nerd:
my bad for misreading city... i was focusing more on reporter talking directly to fisher, & wrongly thought he was local beat reporter... perhaps he has ties to organization from their history in previous city...these are still questions that TEN (& HOU) homers could address... is mclain more wired into TEN club than a random reporter might be from alaska or mongolia? does he have previous pattern of deceit & being mouthpiece of the club? or conversely, has his reporting been generally acknowledged after the fact as accurate?

in my case, following rams closely, i listen closely to what jim thomas (sporting news) & howard balzer have to say about the organization... they are usually right...

* this was business part of post #50 by colin that also caused me to mistakenly infer he was local reporter... i wasn't accounting for fact that he may know a lot about team from PREVIOUS ties to organization...

"JM is more in the know w/ the Titans then most any other reporter with any other team."

in this case, the truthfulness of report, if accurate, is probably of more importance to white owners than geographical point of origin...

i'm sure there is nothing in this thread that would cause those down on him to see things differently... & probably vice verce...

i cited thomas & balzer, who i'm pretty sure are local STL jouranlists, as important sources for rams info... but balzer has written about the league at large, & i have found him to be generally accurate about wider league matters... this could be through cultivating good insider contacts over many years, both in the rams & from other teams around the league...

if multiple sources step forward & claim that mclain is wrong a lot about TEN matters, then i stand corrected... but in the absence of that, i'm going to side with what i have read & not what i haven't (about the authoritativeness of mclain as a TEN source)... there have been more than one vouchings in his favor in this thread... no credible ones i've heard yet claiming to the contrary (or even non credible ones  )...

I called this back in January.

It's a shame he doesn't get it.

It is OK if he comes into camp overweight and works it off but he's not a bear that should be hibernating or anything. I mean taking it easy is one thing.

It'll be interesting to see what the result is of this. IMO he's got a brief period here to work his tail off and show he's their RB of the future. The job couldn't be gift wrapped any nicer for him but like Fisher said, it's not gonna be handed to him. The bonus of the overweight prob is he's gotta work it off I guess. It is possible that he just balloons real quickly when he's taking it easy as there's a number of earlier reports showing a strong hint that that happens or might happen.

The season may be a long time away but the time the Titans have to find a competent "just in case" RB is definitely fading.

Yes, McClain is a Tennessee beat writer, even though he works for the Houston Chronicle ...
McClain works out of Houston but is very tied to the Titans since he was the beat guy when they were the Oilers. He has known Fisher, Adams, etc. for a VERY long time. He has one of those relationships with Fisher where Fisher gives him the inside scoop on things and McClain doesn't burn him (i.e. The decision to take Young was made on the Wed. before the draft last year. McClain knew on Thursday, but didn't run anything about it, choosing to wait until after the draft to cover the story like everyone else.). So, as I said, if McClain is saying that Fisher isn't worried about LWhite, then Fisher isn't worried about LWhite.
