Many of Favre's records are the result of longevity. Rodgers may enter the discussion, but not yet. Bart Starr for the win.

And the best football player of all time is Jerry Rice. The gap between Jerry and #2 is greater than the three guys above and their runner-ups.
This topic came up the other day. Rice was our consensus #1 pretty easily but #2 was a decent discussion between Favre, Peyton Manning, Reggie White and Ray Lewis. IMO, White was the best player who was a Packer, but it's hard to call him the best Packer.
You list all player that have played in the past 20 years. Is Peyton Manning really better than Don Hutson, Jim Brown or Johnny Unitas? How about better than Lawrence Taylor or Barry Sanders? That's the thing about these discussions, they can never really be answered in a definitive way.
True, but we were going with the "if this guy played today, in his prime, who would be the best?" discussion instead of the "relative to his peers" aspect. Taylor could play today and do very well, he's right behind Lewis as the best LB ever IMO, but their games are different enough that you could argue either way. I love Barry, but he isn't in the top 5 all time overall.

Define "best" however you see fit.Don't sleep on Arnie Herber's 81-106 TD-INT ratio as Green Bay's QB from 1930-1940.
different era for the passing game...you didn't have so many passer-friendly rules. He QB'd the team to a bunch of titles...

It's such a shame that Favre disgraced himself with his Diva act, which got progressively worse as the years went on. I believe his childish antics likely cost him a spot on the pro football Mount Rushmore. Thanks for helping the Saints get to the Superbowl though.

Rogers is his complete opposite from a personality and work ethics standpoint, which will garner him a few votes here.

Four NFL Championships, led the NFL in passing in 4 different categories (att's, comp's, yards, TD's) 3 different seasons, played defense and also punted. GB finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd in offense in all 9 of his years, and they only had one losing season. He also had 2 good years with the Giants.Yeah, he was pretty good.

Doesn't really address who is the best QB in Green Bay history but shows what a class act Bart Starr is:

Starr says undefeated Packers would be greatest in club history

Dec. 18, 2011 10:34 a.m.

Hall of Fame quarterback Bart Starr said the 2011 Packers would be the greatest Packers team of all-time if they remain undefeated.

Starr, 77, was interviewed on the "Mike & Mike in the Morning" show on ESPN Radio.

"If this team does go 19-0, would you consider them the greatest Packer team of all time?" Mike Greenberg asked Starr.

"I guess I would have to because they are sensational," Starr said.

Mike Golic asked Starr if this 2011 Packers team was better than Starr’s 1962 team, which went 13-1 and won the Super Bowl.

"Well I think you could say this one would be better," Starr said. "Obviously, when you play on the team that had the record we did, you think you are the best of all time, naturally. But this team that is playing this year is just exceptional and I certainly don’t want to place them down any notches that they don’t deserve."

Starr was asked to provide his scouting report of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

"I can tell you this," Starr said. "He is one of the greatest men you will ever meet away from football. He is just an exceptional gentleman. The minute you meet him, you like him. I don’t know when I have ever seen a talent quite like him. He is unreal, and he is playing like it. He is just a joy to watch.

"I don’t know how he does it," Starr said. "He almost throws it behind his back sometimes and completes it. It’s incredible. The guy is a talent that you have to see to begin to believe."

I will go with Starr, he won games and that is what it is all about. Rodgers could very easily be the man if teams goes 19-0 this year.

Favre has too many issues to be the guy. The BS talk about talent around is so blown out of the water. Robert Brooks, A. Freeman, Sharpe, Driver and Jennings at WR. Edgar, Levens and Grant in the backfield. There was talent around him all the way just not Hall of Fame talent.

The pick in big games sticks out with Favre, that is something that Starr did not do and Rodgers hasn't done so far. The horrible Ram game, Eagle throw up and the game turning pick to the Giants all show horrible choices. I know they talk about his great Monday night game against the Raiders but watch those throws. He was throwing the ball up for grabs and Packers players made the plays to make him look good.

He should have the numbers and records he has because he played so many games. No other QB will likley play that much to get those numbers over a career.

The on and off retirement and going to the Choke vikes are just off field games he played. They should not be part of the thought process when it comes to who was better.
