Who is the true handcuff to Fournette? (1 Viewer)

T J Yeldon or Corey Grant?  Yeldon is projected around 400 yards rushing and 350 yards receiving.  He's 6'1" 223 and is 24 years old.

Lots of hype around Grant this off-season with the coaches saying they have to find a way to get him on the field.  He's 5'11" 206 AND 26 years old.

One would think it's Yeldon, regardless of the off-season hype for Grant.

Depth chart wise and for 2018 it's Yeldon.  2019 and beyond, it's Grant.  I don't think "handcuff" is the proper term though considering they both are very likely to get a decent workload if Fournette is out.  Either way Yeldon is a cheap addition to your team if you're banking on free agency and have been a fan.

I've read a few times this offseason, including by Jags beat writers, that they really like Yeldon in that third down/passing game role and would prefer to have him in that role and not trying to carry a bigger load if Fournette was injured.  Speculation was they might be in market later to if a veteran two down RB was available.

That's what I'm reading along with the "we need to get Grant on the field" talk.

My guess is it's a RBBC if Fournette went down. Yeldon is the one I'd handcuff him with, especially in dynast for two reasons. One is I think he'd produce the most sans Fournette  but the bigger reason is he that he's in the last year of his deal and still has youth and a what I feel is a three down skill set. There was a time after his rookie season, before they signed Ivory, he was ranked as as high as a top 5 dynasty RB and we just saw an offseason where someone like McKinnon vaulted in value so never say never.

Was yeldon hurt during the postseason? If I remember right they mostly used Grant when they took fournette out and he did pretty well also. I'd agree that neither would end up becoming a main guy and it would be a RBBC but I've been adding Grant because he has been cheaper (usually as a FA).

I'm a big Yeldon fan right now.  Averaged 3 catches a game last year.  I won't call him Chris Thompson just yet but if you're in a deep PPR league I would give Yeldon some run if you're looking to fill a RB/flex spot.

There isn't one, but the JAX backfield is productive enough that both will be relevant and startable as at least flexes if Fournette misses time. If I had to take one, I would probably take Yeldon because he's likely to have more regular volume in passing game if you need a desperation play while Fournette is still healthy, but it's not a decisive edge because Grant is explosive and with more willingness to use him, he could become a bigger part of the offense even while Fournette is healthy.

I do think the quality and usage of the other backs (among other things) should move Fournette to the bottom of the tier with Hunt Gordon and Cook
