I like them when I eat them, but I never seek them out.  They were one of my favorites as a kid.  I put 5.

Generous giving it a 2, that wax chocolate on the outside is awful.

It's only saving grace is it's not candy corn, and it's not peeps. But that is a very low bar.

If I'm looking at a bowl full of candy and it had a bunch of different types of candy in it with 10 being the best and 1 being the worst, this is the eating pattern I would choose :

10.) Reese cup / Dove chocolate
09.) Snickers
08.) Twix
07.) M&M's (any)
06.) Butterfinger

At this point, I would let my wife and son know there's a bowl full of candy, come and get it :
(To me this is the shark move b/c I've left them candy (including chocolate candy) but just not the really good stuff plus my wife hates York's but loves Heath but she's super disciplined so I know she'll go super light on the candy.  My son, on the other hand, would leave a bowl full of empty wrappers and he hates Heath so win-win for me)

05.) Heath and York (tied)
04.) Milky way / Almond Joy-Mounds / Three Musketeers / Kit Kat
03.) Starburst/Skittles (tied for me b/c very good but just not chocolate)
02.) Whoppers (because it's a step above Candy Corn)
01.) Circus Peanuts / Candy Corn / Peeps / Old People Candy

All tongue in cheek except the rankings.  The way it works in my house is that my wife would eat maybe three pieces, I would get maybe 10 (out of 100) and my teenage son would be in a sugar coma, passed out on the floor with an empty bowl full of wrappers scattered around him. :)

I'm a fan, but other malted milk balls I've had that have a thicker chocolate coating are way better.
True. Chocolate and malt together is really, really good.  When it's done really well with actual good chocolate, it's awesome.  But it's still pretty darn good with the cheap waxy chocolate used in Whoppers.

any of you guys old enough to have had Ovaltine?

chocolate malted milk powder - Nestle's Quik was good - Ovaltine kicked it up infinite notches.

I like this list a lot.  Some things I would add

#9 add Take 5

M&M's move to #8 with a bunch of solid chocolate (Hershey bar, Crunch, Mr Goodbar, Krackle)

#7 Twix, 100 Grand

We've done these lists before, but Kit Kat is a glaring omission.

Yup. We often had Quik in the house when I was younger, and I was a fan. Then I tried chocolate malt Ovaltine and wondered what my parents were thinking.

i like malt so if you say hey swcer brohan do you want a strawberry shake or a strawberry malted you know damn well im going malted now if you said hey man do you want a strawberry shuke well hell i dont know what id do but thats another story for another time take that to the bank bromigos

Voted 9, due to the occasional chewy one. Was always my go-to movie theater candy. The box was always just the right size. Remember Mom buying me the milk carton size on occasion, and would always eat too many.

I would like to contribute to the list ...

#9 Gummy Bears .. the good ones Haribo or whatever brand those are

#3 Twizzlers

#1 Good & Plenty

Haven't had these in 30-40 years. Because of this thread just picked up a box at the grocery store (on sale!) to see if they're how I remember. Will report back later.

Rated an 8.

Ate these regularly as a kid.  Best ones were the ones that were hard inside.

My modus operandi was to bite a little hole in the chocolate and then liquidate and suck the innards.

Good times....

Haha, I did (or do?) something similar.... bite the thing in half and suck out the malt stuff inside.  Kinda like suckin' the head of a crawfish.

Meh - 5.  Just tried a few from the leftover Halloween bag

I kind of like malted milk, so the centers are good. But the chocolate is pretty low-grade.  If I could get these with a good dark chocolate shell, I'd smash.

Ok ... sidebar;

Here in New England, we like our fresh lobsta... (and crabs)

We eat the claws and tail ... everything but the head ... since it's full of nasty brain and guts and junk.

Yet down south they eat those tiny lobsters they call crawfish ... throw the tail away and only eat the head.

Wouldn't the tail be the sweet sweet meat without all the nasties?

They are much smaller than I remember and they taste more like a York Peppermint Pattie than they do malted milk balls. I don't hate them but not nearly as good as I thought they would be.

Umm, everywhere I ate crawfish the tail was the main thing you ate... only the hardcore sucked the brains out.

Maltesers from the UK are a superior version of malted milk balls. They're larger than Whoppers and have a better, shinier coating.

You ever tried a Now & Later? They’re like Starbursts on steroids. Could pull out a healthy tooth if you’re not careful.
Literally pulled out a loose tooth eating one of these as a kid
they also create a tremendous amount of drool

will never forget a kid destroying a fairly elaborate drawing in drafting class because he had a grape one in his mouth and we made him laugh.

Giant purple dump of drool all over his nearly finished mechanical drawing.

He was crushed.

My daughter picked up some Dark Chocolate Malt Balls from Sprouts tonight. I will try them tomorrow night at family card night.
