Who's stock could the NFL rookie draft change the most? (1 Viewer)

Guys like CJ and AP get all the love now. But who do you think will earn headlines if they fall into a situation that now appears possible.

My picks: Lynch by a mile, and Meachem at WR

I don't see how Lynch could improve by a mile. He's already the consensus #2 or 3 pick. No matter where he goes, he's not going to jump ahead of Peterson.

It's always the second tier RBs who make the biggest jump after draft day. Recent years have seen guys like Tatum Bell, Julius Jones, JJ Arrington, and Eric Shelton vault up the board after landing in favorable spots.

This year there's a grab bag of guys who can make a similar jump. Antonio Pittman, Kenny Irons, Michael Bush, Brandon Jackson, Lorenzo Booker, Tony Hunt, and Brian Leonard are the primary suspects.

I expect Cleveland, Atlanta, Green Bay, Tennessee, and Miami to strongly consider adding one of these guys in round 2-3.

I think we could also see a QB jump up the list if a team like Detroit takes Drew Stanton or Trent Edwards.

I think that the guys whose effectiveness is most tied to the offense in which they are drafted are Booker, Hunt and Leonard. If they are each drafted into a offense that can use their skills, they may move up the fantasy rookie draft boards.

I think either GB or Buffalo might draft one of these 2nd tier RBs. I assume that Peterson will go early and one of these two teams will draft Lynch. I can see Buffalo drafting defense, but if they take Lynch, GB will take a RB, imo. This is the one scenario I think will produce a huge bump up for one of these 2nd tier RBs. Also, MBush going to Atlanta might be another.

I could see Lynch be negatively effected the most if he becomes a BPA pick for some team, especially if Buffalo or Green Bay drafts RBs say in round two or maybe three. Some people at Rookie number 3 who were expecting instant impact will now turn to the guys they think will start the quickest versus the more talented player.

I heard some rumblings that both GB and Buffalo have their eyes on Lynch and that there may be some draft day moves made to secure him. Even if that's just smoke and mirrors, you have to think that whoever misses out on Marshawn (maybe both of these teams) will be eyeing guys like Irons and Pittman in the 2nd. Booker and Leonard are a bit tougher to project because they're more versatile and would thus be useful to a wider variety of teams. Look for Miami and Tennesee to add a back in rounds 2-4. I don't know what to make of Bush and Hunt. The buzz doesn't seem all that good on either player, so I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of them slip into the 4th round. We'll know soon enough.

A screwball pick or two is always to be expected. Mock drafts are always so neat and pretty, but draft day can be ugly.

Who predicted Deuce to the Saints? Steven Jackson to the Rams? Chris Perry to the Bengals over Kevin Jones? Roy Williams to the Lions? DeAngelo Williams to the Panthers?

No one predicted these things. Screwy stuff always happens.

Also worth noting:

The Redskins had a huge contingent (including Daniel Snyder) present at Georgia Tech's pro day. This team is definitely crazy enough to mortgage the farm on one player, so Calvin Johnson to the Skins is something to keep an eye on.

Michael Bush, Leonard and Booker could move to #4 at most.

Trent Edwards or Drew Stanton in Baltimore, Chicago, Kansas City, or Jacksonville could raise their draft stock to late 1st, maybe mid 1st.

If any of those 2nd tier RB's go to Buffalo or Green Bay in the 2nd round they could be in for a lot of carries from the jump. I could see that RB going as early as 1.02 in some drafts.

1.4 will likely be a valuable pick due to a RB landing in a juicy spot. I actually swapped 1.4 for 1.5 and got good value so I am hoping a couple of backs land in good spots.

I think Lynch could vault above Peterson if the latter ends up in a RBBC or in a RB cemetary like Cleveland, and especially if Lynch goes to a team like Green Bay who is thrilled enough with him to declare him the opening day starter. In my view, this scenario is very possible.

First thing that struck me was Booker and Tennesse (nice write up to bring this out, EBF). It would give Chow a similar version of Bush/White (no comparing Bush and Booker obviously). With the Titans a little short in receiver options of this point, this would be a great home for Booker and give PPR'ers something to think about.
