why do people stand in line for chipotle (3 Viewers)

good marketing always has and always will trump quality
i dont think its good marketing. i think its because most people are just too stupid to take more than 5 seconds to realize that there's more to eat for lunch than the place with the flashing neon lights and plastic food. these are the same people who buy reeboks instead of nike's and drive pontiacs. who actually wakes up one morning and says 'hey! i'm gonna go buy a pontiac car today!"
I'm pretty sure everything you just described falls under the heading of marketing.

You realize that most people rarely make choices based on quality right?

Be glad you have the authentic place two doors down.. i'd do business there as well but I don't have that type of place near me... so I have to use the Chipotle.

You ARE smarter than everyone else!
except that he clearly doesn't understand marketing.

Funny, we don't have Chipotle near us. So we settle for Mexican food out of a trailer in a small town. and it's AWESOME

Mexican food has always just been okay to me. A burrito is nice once in a very long while. I do like Chipotle though, mainly because it's not really Mexican Food. If you think of it as just food, then it's great. I'll even eat Panda Express once in a while, I just never consider it Chinese Food.

Cuz they're idiots.

Order that #### online and walk to the front.
Always order online.
Crazy talk.

"Welcome to Chipotle. What can I get ya?"

"A steak burrito, my good man!"

"There ya go. What else you want on there?"

"Tarry a moment, friend! Would you be so kind as to roughly quadruple the amount of steak on there?"

"Uh...yeah, sure."

"Superlative! Now, let's get a fresh tub of guac out here. We're going to be loading up..."

I'm not a fatty, so I don't need the extra.
I'm not an emaciated clarinet player type, and I like to get maximum value out of any transaction, so I do.
Time is money. I'm not standing in like for some extra bits of meat.

Plus, I live in L.A. so Chipotle barely registers on my radar as Mexican food.

So you couldn't get through the line to get Chipotle on your lunch break and started a thread because you are mad about it?

There are people for whom this sentiment actually means something. Those people are having Michelin-starred chefs personally deliver and then hand-feed them Wagyu burritos as they stride confidently on their penthouse treadmills, buying Anacott Steel.

For the rest of us, there is still value in a burrito so overstuffed it develops its own weather systems.

Sounds like we need to bump the bmi thread. ;)

Some people have different preferences than you. Don't get all worked up about it.
not really. there are some things out there that are objectively worse than their alternatives. take subway sandwiches for example. you're never going to convince anyone that a subway sandwich is better than a sandwich at a real deli, yet lo and behold right across the street from where i work, there's a subway next door to an an awesome italian deli which btw is also cheaper, and guess which one has the longer line. people in general are stupid, plain and simple.
You know what type of people speak in absolutes?

Ya. Didn't think so.

You've obviously never had authentic mexican food or you'd understand your level of wrongness here.
I have lived in TX and I have lived in MN. His statement is 100% correct for most of the places in MN.

A local place might be good, it might be awful. I know what I am getting with Chipotle. I am not normally much of a chain guy, but Chipotle is really good.

:lmao: Keep fighting the good fight! I'm sure you'll get everyone to agree with your preferences at some point.
its not about my preferences. there are plenty of other examples of stuff where there is more than one acceptable option that may not match with my preferences, but you're not gonna convince a sane poerson that subway or chipotle is better than the real thing, especially when the real thing is right next door, cheaper, and has a shorter line. people need to look up from their electronic gizmos and look around once in a while.
Even if this was your point, which is still wrong, Chipotle is a horrible example.

Chipotle and authentic Mexican food are barely even in the same food group. Not everyone prefers onion, cilantro, and uncooked corn tortillas to melted cheese, salsa, and flour. In fact I would say that most people prefer the latter, hence the lines.

ETA: It's also nice that a place like Chipotle can actually handle the crowds. There's a little tacqueria here that's always packed (#1 on yelp or something) and it's always a crowded, sweaty, 30 minute battle to get your food there.

Big red XWhen ordering online you can't give specific instructions that will be followed to T. You can't ask for extra chicken without paying either.
Huh? My wife orders online and has all kinds of crazy requests and they follow it to a T.

Speaking of which..... If you ask them to mix it, you can enjoy your burrito with each bite rather then one bite of lettuce, one bite of rice, one bite of chicken.

Why would you work right across the street from a Subway when you could work right across the street from a real taqueria with real mexican food and no line?
I have both where I work. i work and live in one of the best culinary areas of the world, which is why i shake my head when people stand in line for chipotle and subway.

Then I would contend that it likely isn't authentic mexican food, which was my point.

You're pretty hardcore.

I live in a town with both Chipotle and a Mexican place so authentic the waiters can barely get out "Can I take your order?"

Point is, they both have very distinctive flavors. One night I may crave one, another night I'll crave the other.

There is always a line because they ask you a lot of questions. I went there just wanting a burrito and once I paid I felt like I had just played jeopardy. Just put whatever you're supposed to put on it and the line would move fast. I prefer other options.

out of desperation, yes. chipotle is at least edible. Subway on the other hand is horrible. one thin layer of meat, plastic cheese, etc. I'd rather eat my own #### to be honest

Do tell.
Do you want this or that? This or that? Do you want that? What kind of this? This? Did you also want this? How about that? That costs extra, do you want it? Some of this? How about I say chicken burrito and you just do your magic?

A burrito isn't really traditional Mexican food if you want to get picky

 That is EXACTLY how it is on Jeopardy.

So the OP is upset that a place he fancies doesn't have longer lines? Yeah, everyone else is stupid.
not really angry. just don't understand some people.

haven't you ever been in a situation that makes you want to shake your head and grin to yourself as you pass by the mindless sheep assuming their roles as good, unquestioning consumers?

I feel that way any time I see somebody enter an office building.

Mark me down as a Qdoba fan.

When I eat at Qdoba or Chipolte, I order online.

I stood in line for approximately 10 seconds today. In exchange, I received a delicious chicken burrito.

Chipotle is high-quality. Subway not so much.
Right. They're at exact opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of food quality. Subway uses crappy factory-farmed meat, highly processed and loaded with fillers.

Chipotle buys high-quality meat, often raised on pasture. It's one of the very few chain restaurants, at any price level, that doesn't use crappy meat.

Burrito> White Rice> Pinto> Chicken> Mild> Cheese & Sour Cream.

^^^ In that order, there's your golden ticket to Chipotle goodness, rookies.
