Why do the public seem to prefer Republicans when they're afraid? (1 Viewer)

Quite an ironic Quote from Obama on the campaign trail: ‘The biggest problems we are facing right now have to do with George Bush trying to bring more and more power into the executive branch and not go through Congress at all and that’s what I intend to emulate'
Fixed.

I changed the title of this thread. It was never supposed to be about Republicans deliberately fear mongering, or which party fear mongers more, or why fear mongering works. I never intended to attack the GOP.

The thread was supposed to be about why people in times of.crisis seem to prefer Republicans? Or do they?
They don't. Fear is how Obama got elected. Fear works both ways.
You're right . He forgot about the "freebies"

The democrat party is considered the anti-war party. A side effect is that when danger comes, people run to the republicans for help.

The 3 presidents who fought the world wars were democrats. The president who stood up to the Soviet Union while missiles were being armed was a democrat. The 2 Presidents that worked towards a military build up that ended the Soviet Union were Republicans. The two Presidents who have fought the War on Terror were from each party.

Democrats aren't exactly pansies when they are in the White House. Mostly.
Democrats talk about cutting the defense budget, bringing troops home, getting rid of guns, and a host of other things that make them look soft when it comes to danger. These things are a lot more recent than WWII.

For example?

I'm guessing this is gonna be good, let me get my lawn chair and blank stare out while you compose your masterpiece.

"With what? Spitballs?!"

Yes, we know the history of war and how Democrats have started it. But then there's Daisy in '64. Reagan vs. Carter and Mondale and Bush v. Dukakis in the '80s and '90s. Clinton's ineffectual response to the first WTC bombing, in retrospect. That was also the perception in 2004. It's not an accident that even the R judges on the S. Ct. are generally considered executive branch boosters.
