Why don't we discuss Aaron Hernandez here? (2 Viewers)

Again, you are arguing the reason he is locked down 21 hours per day. I understand its to protect him from others. But regardless of why, he is still locked in a parking space sized room 21 hours per day.So again - if the result is the same, why does the reason matter?
If Aaron Hernandez is killed in gen pop, is "the result the same"?
Are those the only two possibilities? Being kept in a parking spot sized room all day or being killed?
You do realize that parking lot-sized cell is the same for ALL the prisoners, don't you?
I don't know that. But if true, all the prisoners are not kept in there for 21 hours per day with no other interaction.
Maybe they should be.
So we no longer care at all about rehab? And then we are shocked when recidivism rates are high?
How would you rehab a person that has killed multiple times?
Pretty sure everyone in prison isn't a serial or spree killer.
No, but let's be honest, there is a level where rehab isn't a realistic option.

Sure I'll give you that. But that isn't the case for the vast overwhelming percentage of the prison population.

The whole issue of gang involvement brings a new level of complexity to it, too. As long as they're regarded as "in" the gang, I think rehab is pretty much impossible. And if they are genuinely "out" of the gang after they are in, then you need to have a physically separate housing area or an entirely different jail for former gang members because they're going to be walking targets otherwise.

I don't understand your point in the highlighted sentence. The fact that there are people who leave gangs disproves this.

If they leave the gang then they aren't in the gang.

Maybe 3 hours is just the right number for optimal rehabilitation.

Right. They were rehabbed. And therefore, left.

Agreed. Besides, he won't be playing this season. He can take all the time he needs to rehab his shoulder. ;)

Ummm. doubtful. In order to be out of the gang, they have to "flip" and basically rat out every gang member they possibly can. The only reason they'll do this is if they're going to be killed anyhow because they didn't fall in line in some way. not like they suddenly saw the light while a gang member and just decided it would be better not to be a member. That's just not reality.

Rehab doesn't work on sociopaths.

Besides, what are you going to do, retrain Aaron Hernandez so he can earn an honest wage and doesn't have to resort to crime to drug trafficking to support himself?

Belichick has been incredibly candid and forthcoming in his press conference. Granted, the whole thing was prepared, but he is doing exactly what he should do.

"I'm personally disappointed and hurt in a situation like this."

"Overall I'm proud of the hundreds of players who have come through the organization."

"I'm not trying to make this story disappear, but I respect the judicial process."

Talked about "looking in the mirror" in terms of future evaluation of prospects.

Even investigated whether other players could have been hanging with Hernandez at his flop house.

Very impressive job by BB.

Again everyone isn't a sociopath. And if you read down further I agreed that not everyone could be rehabbed. However we aren't really trying with anyone. Then when they get out and can't support themselves because job training programs largely don't exist any more we get to be all high horse about recidivism that we essentially baked right into the system.

I hope that was sarcasm by saying impressive job by BB. You even said yourself it was prepared which it no doubt was as was evident by his annoying robot monotone voice. I'm sure he could care less and he only did it because kraft told him too.

Yes... I can't believe he had a prepared speech for a press conference. How dare he.

BB Haters are one of the most entertaining things about this forum

Agree. Credit where credit is due- of all the NFL head coaches whose teams have employed mass murderers, Belichick definitely handled it with the most grace and eloquence.

I will say this though, all of the surveillance photos and video that has been made public to this point are not as clear as made out in oral arguments.

This is a couple weeks old and may have been posted, but I found it interesting.

Browns running back Dion Lewis isn’t the only one who thinks Carlos Ortiz is a snitch.

Kevin Manahan of USA Today takes at close look at Ortiz’s neighborhood in Bristol, Connecticut, and the man known locally as “Charlie” or “Charlie Boy” may not want to go back, if/when he ever gets out of jail.

Everybody knows that Charlie told,” Ortiz’s cousin, Jose “Ito” Torres said. “He’s been labeled a rat. He’s done. He’s done. You’re going to have another breaking news [story] on TV.”

The thinking in the neighborhood is that Ortiz should not have cooperated with police.

“That’s Aaron Hernandez,” local resident Amber Schryer said. “You tell the police you don’t know anything.”

“That’s my cousin and I love him,” Torres said. ”But he got caught up with the wrong people and they used him. If he thinks you’re his friend, he’s going to go all out for you. He has a good heart, but he’s not very smart.”

Ortiz isn’t smart, for many reasons. And now he has a major problem. He has told police the whole story regarding the murder of Odin Lloyd. If Ortiz refuses to cooperate moving forward, he’s probably already said enough to allow prosecutors to secure a conviction that will put him away for the rest of his life.

And there in lies a big reason crimes don't get solved especially in minority communities.

Shocking that you feel that way, considering the very first thing listed in your interests is the Pats. You're one of those guys who don't think that cheating played any role in their three 3-point Super Bowl wins, aren't you?

What does that have to do with anything?

Did you even watch/listen to the press conference? Or read any of the national stories (read: "unbiased" by local media) about it?

I'm not the biggest fan in the world of Belichick's, but I thought he did the right thing. Sorry.

Appears to be a bail hearing for Bo Fish, described as Aaron Hernandez' right hand man.
"Bo Fish"
Bail was set for Wallace at $500,000 cash after prosecutors claimed that not only was Bo Fish a flight risk, that his sole source of financial support before and after Lloyd's murder came from Hernandez.
Prosecution, do you have any suspects who are flight risks?

Bo Fish.

What are the chances he is actually innocent? Seems inconceivable but who knows right? Seems odd he would write that letter to the fan.

I'm impressed how well written it is compared to most professional athletes.
Much better handwriting than I have.

You mean that it was not written in crayon?
Yes & Yes

Problem is, even if he is acquitted on the murder charges, the 5 gun charges are going to stick and in MA, that's no laughing matter, either, and will be good for some jail time. Though, by the time the verdict comes in, he might have enough time served on those charges.

I just noticed that he never says he's innocent in the letter. Closest he comes is saying that "the world just makes things out of false accusations."

Actually seems too articulate and smart to do something as stupid as kill someone that close to his mansion, plus the huge trail of evidence and keep a bunch of unlicensed guns in his home.

Makes you wonder if that is his attempt to look innocent.

:winkwink:Please, please, please, whatever you do, do not send this to TMZ at 444 Hollywood Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90210. When I say don't send it, I am specifically saying to not address it to Harvey Levin and in no way post this to your Facebook and/or Twitter account. While you will probably become famous for it, you are my dear friend now and you shouldn't try to profit from selling this and potentially making more money in 5 minutes than you have made in your whole life. You are my homey now. Yours in Christ, AH:winkwink:

Even if it turned out that one of his friends shot Lloyd, Hernandez is still going to do hard time for the gun charges and obstruction of justice.
