Why no thread on Steve Smith (CAR) (1 Viewer)

Where do we put Smitty now that he's done it again? Is he a WR2 or WR1? Still a sell high? Trying to figure out if I can get a Wes Welker for him.

 
I don't understand why people want to sell Smitty. What do you expect to get for him? Fitz??? Do it if you need help at QB, RB or TE, but you won't get a better WR for him.

 
I have been trying to determine what people thinks he does for the rest of the year too. Are the Panthers going to eventually assume a more balanced offense rather than having a large disparity in run:pass ratio? Is Cam going to be able to continue this pace?

I have been trying to package him in a deal to upgrade my QB position (I have Megatron, VJax, Brandon Marshall already). It's just that people are expecting a major decrease in production moving forward.

Noone is going to trade Megatron, Andre, Roddy or Fitz for Welker, but anything else is on the board. His trade value is about a low end WR1, high end WR2.

I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger on Welker. Is that a downgrade? Do we feel Smitty is right behind the top 4 WRs?

If I had to choose between the two, I would choose Smith. Welker doesn't seem to get the redzone looks because, unlike Smith, he isn't the primary focus in the passing game. The OC for the Panthers came out and said that Smith is the main target in the passing game. I think his current value is what you said it is - low end WR1 high end WR2, which would be someone like Mike Wallace or Desean Jackson, IMO.

Marshall for Smith is pretty much a wash. Definitely wouldn't trade Smith for Welker.If you are trying to trade Smith, you should be using Smith and a another player to try and get AJ/Calvin/Fitz, or if you're starting QB is say Roethlisberger or Matt Ryan, trade them with Smith and try and get an elite QB.In summary, I am holding Smith unless I can package Smith in a deal to get an elite player.

I haven't seen much of the Panthers in these two games, but did catch their final drive this past Sunday (believe it was the one that Newton ran in). Once they got to 1st and goal, the first two plays had Smith split out wide to the left, and he ran the same route twice...a very slow, barely moving, looking like a decoy slant. I wasn't very optimistic about his RZ chances seeing that, so fully understanding my sample size could be way off, is he really that big of a RZ target?

Well, you must be too since it seems you appear to be only willing to move Smiff.....or I'm assuming too much
 
Only saw enough of the game to know there was bad weather, but apparently it broke and conditions weren't terrible for the whole game. And obviously Cam struggled a bit. Can those who watched the full game fill me in on Smith's 2 for 15 performance? Was it a combination of those points, focus of the secondary, etc? Thanks.

Had a couple deep balls thrown his way pre-rain. Would have been big gainers. One slipped through his fingers, the other would have been a nice gain if he was 7 feet tall.

1) 3 inches of rain in one hour plus everything that cascaded out of the stadium. People in the front row onf the stands were knee deep in water.2) Other than 2 plays at the end of the first half, the defense had control of this game. This was the easiest team on the schedule this year. Opponents will get back to hanging 30 spots on a weekly basis and Smith will get his.

I just traded him for Adrian Peterson.

I was stocked at WR, he was stocked at RB.

I'm feeling pretty good, so is the guy I traded with.

Well Royal has had his bye and Smith is off this week so let's hold off on busting Oats chops and give him the benefit of the doubt until the games played are the same. Royal and Tebow could get on track this week.

I'm curious, lopsided which way?Also in that league they have the same exact points as of now.He had extra RB's he couldn't use sitting on the bench, and I WR's.

Holy cow, I thought you were joking about the 800 yards thing. I knew Smith was lighting it up with Cam but I could not have told you he had 918 yards. :shock:

 
Since we are here, what are people's thoughts on Steve Smith this year? Can he keep it up for another year? Will he have a competent WR to take some attention away from him?

And to hopefully bring this thread back to usefulness...I got Smith last year very cheaply in an auction league and received a ton of trade interest towards the deadline. I already know those guys still want him so I'll be selling him prior to the season. While I think he's still very good, I don't expect him to repeat his numbers from last year. He was much better in the first half of the season and I also think Cam will regress some.
 
I think he'll put up strong numbers this year but fall off after that. He's a machine but I think the youth they Will soon bring in will eventually take guys fantasy value after 2012

I think he was targeted something like 9 times this preseason with only 1 catch. And that was for 7-8 yards. If you can get Smith in the 11th round or later then sure take a flier, but to think he is going to give you even WR3 numbers would be a stretch.
