Will Cam bounce back this year? (1 Viewer)

Just curious as to what you guys think about Cam? I haven't seen that much. He looked bad when I did see him. I can't remember who he played. With his ability to run for TD's and yardage I figured I couldn't loose. Rivers was killing my team. Any insight would be helpful.

Yes. He finished as QB5 last season, and was QB6 going into the game against Seattle, who has made a few good QBs look bad. I have to think 2 of his worst games are behind him.

He is still getting goal line carries (more actually) and they will still be there, even when the passing numbers start coming around.

I think he is a very good bet to finish top 5-6 from this point forward, if not the whole of the season.

Let's hope they made some adjustments on offense over the bye week. Rivera me ruined that they really wanted to scale back newtons deep throws and have him focus a bit more on his short to intermediate passing game which would focus in guys like Olsen more. It would give can a higher completion percentage, allow him to get the ball out of his hands more quickly, and then he can take a few choice shots downfield each game to steve smith on busted coverage.

I'm hopeful.

IMO key to all Carolina players is a marked change in offensive coaching and playcalling. Look for news about changes there. If there is none, I wouldn't expect much improvement anywhere, probably the average of what we have seen so far.

No doubt. But he's had two of the toughest games he will have, and is still capable of 30 point games.

Cam is matchup dependent (2 top 4 scoring weeks)

his playoff schedule is vs ATL, @SD, vs OAK

ATL is solid against the pass this year, but it helps that's it a home game and the other 2 matchups are solid. I'm not sold on Cam's passing ability at all, his value will obviously come through rushing yards and scores which makes him an inconsistent option week to week. Everyone knows that dating back to the second half of last season he hasn't exactly been a top 6 QB.

Actually, he was a top 6 QB over the 2nd half of last season. And was this season, going into week 4.The running points make him more consistant, not less.

In week 4 against Atlanta, Cam threw for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns, and ran for 86 yards and had a rushing touchdown.

I guess it depends on your scoring system, I don't believe that he was a top 6 QB in 6 point passing TD scoring leagues.

Good point, I'm not sure that he'll be able to repeat those numbers though.

Fair point. Not sure about this last year. But in 2011, I am pretty sure he was, even in 6 pt leagues.I could be wrong.

Probably going to see up and down games based on the matchups. Not a lot of game from the CAR WRs and maybe the soph slump. Saw a thread where Bowe is being rumored to go to Miami. How about Bowe on CAR to help Cam? Wishful thinking...

He absolutely was in mine, and that's in a relatively normal scoring setup(1pt per 25 yards passing, 6pts per pass TD, -2pts per INT).

Second half of the season he was QB5. First half he was QB3.

In my 6pt passing TD league he finished QB5 last year.Slim chances he finishes that high this year, but I'm hoping they can fix some things in the second half of the season.

I really dont see the Cowboys as a great a great matchup. I'm thinking of rolling with Freeman over him. Am I nuts? If you are sitting him this week, let us know who you are starting over him

Coming out of the bye, and at home ... spent a relatively high pick on this guy, no? One of those weeks where one just has to say "go get it" .... and hope they righted the ship down there :boxing: Looking for Olsen and JStew to ramp it up this week, shortening the routes/reads for Cam ... and LaFell has to come out of his fantasy coma sometime soon :missing:

I'd roll with Freeman for this week anyway bc of DAL's secondary and NO's lack thereof. Play the matchupsThe argument that you spent a high pick on him is useless and will get you to the cellar in a hurry. (eg Chris Johnson advice on here last year)

I saw this on the Hotwire. Sounds promising:

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said he is feeling refreshed following the bye week. Newton did plenty of self-evaluation during the time off, in addition to having a conversation with his father that helped him have a deeper appreciation for the job. "One thing he said was it's easy for a leader to stand out when you're 4-1," Newton said. "But it takes a courageous leader to stand up and still lead the troops to victory when you're 1-4." Newton said after the talk with his father that he realizes now that he got away from "the small things, preparing for each and every game, valuing each and every possession."

Getting advice from Cecil is the last thing I would want to see. Dude's as dirty as they come. Basically auctioned off his son to the highest bidder (or at the very least attempted to) when he transfered from JUCO. Real piece of work.

That's a nice bullet statement on a motivational poster but in all honesty, if you are an NFL starting QB and you don't already know that, I highly doubt that 50 or so words is going to change your internal mettle in a week.

Considering Luck vs CLE over Cam this week. Haven't pulled the trigger yet though.

Demarcus Ware is a real wildcard in this week's matchup. The DAL secondary doesn't scare me too much, becuase they play man so much, and it will open things up for Cam running.

But Demarcus Ware is a beast in extending towards the sideline, and I think that will hurt Newton this week. He is almost as fast as Newton, I think, and I don't think Newton is used to that from guy who can also stone the blocking tackle. Ware is quick and fast enough to play the RB, and somewhat recover when Cam keeps it.

What is his value?A guy just put him on the block in my league.
I traded Sproles for Cam a couple of weeks ago after one of Sproles' early good games. Forget which week exactly. Jury still out on that trade (I also have Vick and Luck). If Cam breaks out again it will be a steal. If not, not so much.

I just can't bring myself to sit him. Too talented not to bounce back this year. Dallas doesn't scare me matchup wise. Seattle at home and Chicago might be the only defenses that could maybe scare me into benching newton IF I had a competent backup with a good matchup.

I also would change my mind and re crown him as matchup proof I he comes out of the bye and shows me a few good games.

How pissed would you be if you bench newton and play freeman and newton goes off for one o his signature games? 250 yds passing, 2 passing Tds, 80 yds rushing and a rushing td. You won't be happy. He has the potential to do that every week.

You drafted him high. Gotta roll with him. Or package him and trade him off for a better qb. But if he's on your roster you start him every week unless you have another elite option. Freeman is not elite. He sucks. Good matchup but he sucks

You made a compelling argument and talked me into it

I picked up Cutler off of waivers last week when he was on a bye, and I am seriously considering rolling with him over Newton this week. In a league that rewards completions and penalizes for incompletions, Newton has absolutely killed me a couple times this season. Ultimately, I'm undecided.

For some reason I feel like CAR is going to come out of this bye hungry and renewed. I'd start Cam and Smith and even debate flexing JStew.

I made the trade based on his potential. He will have some big games I am sure. He was #5 in my league last year too. Hopefully he rolls out away from Ware and has a big game. Smith/Newton are both due.

I have a guy in my league who is really tired of Newton, to the point that he chose to start Hassleback over him. I have Brady.

You guys think it would be worth it to try to go for Newton, maybe like Newton and Tony Gonzalez/Andre/VJax/Reddie Bush for Brady?

I personally think Cam bounces back and would gladly "downgrade" from Brady, if I could get anything like those guys in addition.
