Will Cinci re-sign Benson? (1 Viewer)

Yeah, hard to say since they will likely have a new coach next season. Personally, I think they need to just hit the reset button on a lot

of overpriced players (starting with Palmer and working their way down). Benson isn't getting any younger and he was mediocre at best

this year. Start over...

1) He turned 28 last week - and its a low mileage 282) 6th in rushing attempts, almost 1300 yards from scrimmage and 8 TDs.

Granted, 3.5 YPC was less than stellar.

I realize its a losing prop defending Benson; he failed to supplant TJ in Chicago, so he'll always be low-balled by FFers no matter effective he is IRL. Probably worth remembering TJ was undervalued as a Bear and Jet

for a good five years just because his career started slowly he was a Cardinal.

As to the OP, not sure anyone has a read on this right now. PFT says he's gone, TSN says the team wants to resign him, local beat guys think there are more pressing concerns to be dealt with first.

It'd be nice to see him stay, as he's a rare commodity in that he didn't really share carries... and I don't think they'll resign him just to split with Scott. Not sure if he goes elsewhere he'll be in the same situation.

Even if they don't bring Benson back, I don't get the sense that team brass would hand the keys over to Scott.

Nope. The local vibe around here is that he has a very familiar Rudi Johnson feel to him (that he is starting to fall and will fall fast).

I don't think Scott is the answer either aside as a committee guy. The Bengals just won't give him the green light. For FF purposes, I am one of those guys that drafted him (or picked him up on waivers), love what he can do, but with all that being said, have begun to sell him in leagues because the Bengals won't turn it over to him and his age (its sometimes easy to overlook that he is already 27 by the time the season rolls around next year).

I can see some success short term but I think his chance is missed for dynasty owners.

I'm curious for B. Scott dynasty purposes. What's the word there? Are they happy with him?
Scott is the classic Hard Knocks mirage. Not that he is awful...he is quite serviceable like a Norwood is; but saying he was the "star of training camp" repeatedly led fantasy owners down the wrong path.

Agreed
That's the feeling I get as well, but it very well could depend on what goes down with the coaching situation. The most upside I see with scott is being the "lightning" in a Thunder and Lightning type set up or to put a more provincial spin on it - playing the James Brooks role.Benson was 2 years for a total of $7m in his last contract, I believe. Not sure what the market would be for him. He's someone who's gotten a whole image makeover in Cincy and is popular with the media and probably the organization as well. Ultimately it may come down to price as much as anything. But if he goes I don't know how much it really would serve to benefit Scott.-QG

I think the other Cedric will get a look, before Scott does. Scott is electric, but not sure he can hold up with 300+ carries.

Cedric Peerman has the frame to be more of a Benson role, it's just does he have the talent?

3-2-1-......Waldman?

This is what I think as well. Hopefully, Brown will wait until he hires a coach before re-signing anyone. I could easily see the Bengals waiting to see what's left from the FA RB pool before signing anyone.

i dont see why teams need a guy to handle 300+ carries. why not give bernard 150-200 and benson a similar amount? when bernard touches the ball good things can happen.

I think most every team other than the Bengals would've either made Scott the feature back by now or at the very least, given him half the touches. If FFers have learned anything, it's that guys like Scott can carry the load if given the chance.

Bernard Scott is electric. I don't buy the too fragile label. Not until he proves he can't handle it. Only a handful of RBs have his raw tools. I look for the new regime to give him a chance. They have much more serious problems to address in the draft & FA.

Now is the time to acquire Scott, IMO.

i just wish they would have featured him more this year, so they know what they have. He is thin...but look at CJ's frame? Peerman was in on some GL work against the Saints, and then got the 4th and 1 carry yesterday. Let Scott carry it a full load and see if he is capable? If you are going to take a peak at Peerman, hell, give Scott some totes in a crucial year postion wise for you.

There have been a handful of occasions this year where they ran Scott short yardage. He wasn't particularly effective.-QG

Any idea why they never gave Peerman an extended look? I expected him to be one of those RBs that get some late-season work and show up on fantasy sleeper radars. Was it simply a product of Lewis knowing he was out of there and not bothering to look at his depth?

Perhaps Benson and Scott are both going to go elsewhere. Is Scott under contract? If so then perhaps he is part of a tandem but a larger part of that tandem. Benson can go several places and be a pounder. His OL blocking was pretty bad this season. Did Scott get more than 5-7 carries a game?

Peerman hasn't gotten a look mainly because of numbers. They've normally gone with Benson-Scott-Leonard plus Pressley at FB. Leonard is super-awesome utility dude btw, though I can't see him taking on, say, an even split with Scott. To MoP - Scott is still on his rookie deal. He was drafted last year.-QG
