WIll Farrell to mock Reagans Dementia (1 Viewer)

I'm a fan of Reagan. In fact this Sunday we're going to the Reagan Library to celebrate my dads 80th birthday.

But I don't get this need to deify him on the right. It's so sanctimonious.

I put the people that will be offended by this movie right up there with the Yale students upset over Halloween costumes.
Ever have a loved one with dementia? Probably not, but keep thinking it's funny to mock people who have it. When someone you truly love has it and doesn't recognize you on a daily basis, would you be mocking them and laughing at them?

Probably, I don't know, maybe we should wait and see how it's handled before we get outraged?  You could certainly make this a comedy without being disrespectful.

Who brought the fun guy?

Laughter is a great coping mechanism.  I've had loved ones with dementia and I will be shocked if I don't have it if I live to a certain age. You are free to come visit me when it does and mock me.  It won't stay with me for long.

The memories of my family outings are still a source of strength to   me. I remember we'd all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was   - and drive and drive. I'm not sure where we'd go, but I think there   were some trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as   we played whatever sport we played. I remember a bigger, older guy we   called "Dad." We'd eat some stuff, or not, and then I think we went   home. I guess some things never leave you.

Well it's a comedy and it starts in the middle of his second term when he was diagnosed with it.
Reagan wasn't diagnosed with Alzheimer's until 1994. How dare you imply that he was impaired during his presidency. Absolutely disgusting.

I'm not outraged that they did this about Reagan on a surface level, but a dementia comedy seems kind of hard to pull off, and sad.

Then again, Jim from Taxi was always good for a laugh, but that was self-induced rather than a function of age.

Then again, I probably won't even bother to watch this? (upspeak)

Yes.  My mother.  And yes, it will probably be a funny movie.  That doesn't mean it's mocking anyone.  You have an agenda that isn't supported by anything at the moment.  Until the movie comes out, and you see it, you can't know.

It is very obvious the rules of Political Correctness only protect the "Beautiful People" and there are now two sets of rules in this country...doing a documentary or investigative report is one thing and well within reason...mocking someone with a disease is totally different...and totally expected from an entertainment industry that long ago chose a side they support...anyone who thinks this movie gets made if Reagan was a D instead of an R also believes Lizzie Warren is an actual Native-American...that should be his next movie...oh wait,  C. Thomas Howell pretty much already did it...

Yep.  It's incredibly annoying when somebody latches onto a political figure, pretends they can do no wrong, and inflates their accomplishments.  So utterly annoying.

Wonder how many of the people who throw a hissy fit about mocking the disease of a public figure who died over a decade ago in a parody are going to then turn around and vote for a man who mocked the disease of a reporter who is still alive in a stump speech.

I have a loved one with dementia and I think this is funny.

Lighten up, Francis.

Hilarity ensues as Ben Stiller stars as JFK in this slapstick romp produced and directed by the Farrelly brothers.  Watch Kennedy’s hyper-secret battle with Addison’s disease result in uproarious scenes of embarrassment and humiliation for the handsome young chief executive.  Favorite scenes include the gross-out spectacle of a vicious diarrhea attack while Marilyn Monroe (played by Scarlett Johanson) sings “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” and the spectacle of Kennedy’s 1961 meeting with Khrushchev (smartly caricatured by John Goodman) in which the president’s cocktail of medications leaves him nearly unable to speak.

You get to be butthurt AND slam political correctness at the same time?

:golfclap:

Isn't one of the big talking points for the right how the left are a bunch of sniveling ninnies and too easily offended ?

I'm not attributing this specifically to Pack or anyone else in this thread -- but speaking generically --  the situational ethics and sometimes outrage that boils down to being a honk for one of the political parties is really ####### petty.   The older I get, that trait is quickly becoming a disqualifier for people I want to see, hang out with, or hear from.
