Will the Bears re-sign Briggs? (1 Viewer)

Do the Bears pay Briggs or let him walk?

If he goes can he be as productive not being on a defense as good as the Bears D is?

Negotiations before the season didn't look promising but that may not mean anything in February. He's a good linebacker; whether he'll land in favorable fantasy situation remains to be seen. He could go the way of David Thornton or the way of Will Witherspoon. Stay tuned.

The talk out of Chicago is that he will NOT be resigned.

Briggs believes that he is a Pro-Bowl type player worth big-time money. The Bears apparently disagree. I'm sure the Bears think he's a good player, but in the salary cap era tough decisions have to be made with potential free-agents. Right now it looks like the Bears are deciding to spend their money elsewhere and plug in someone else next season.

He looks like a Will Witherspoon type player to me. Brigg's value in IDP will be completely dependent upon his situation and defensive scheme imo.

We could probably make this thread apply to Cato June, too, as I think both guys are helped for fantasy purposes more by their situations than their talent.

There's no question that the scheme boosts the value of both, but I think Briggs >> June on pure talent comparison. Briggs could probably thrive as a MLB elsewhere and could have Ian Gold value as a non T2 WLB. June likely would struggle to perform in either of those roles. If he leaves, he'd be smart to move to another T2 club. With Henderson, Crowell, and Sims performing well that doesn't leave him many fantasy friendly options.

i agree, but starting to think gap might not be that much... cato better in coverage...

That's like saying leather tastes better than burlap. :)

Well, June's got 7 INT's in his last 25 games (dating to week 1, 2005), while Briggs has only 3 . . .

I think Briggs is helped by his teammates and the system a little more than people think and he might be a bit of a bust elsewhere.

He won't be a Bear next year.

Look for the BUCS to make a run at him. They will have a lot of cap room next year, have young Offensive talent on board, and need to shore up the aging defense. Briggs, June, and Freeney have all been mentioned as possible targets. And they all have experience in the Tampa 2.

Briggs and June play the same position - is this meant as an either/or?

what are the odds of Briggs getting slapped with the tag? Bears could trade him and get something back in return. They've already done some negotiations

'If the Bears don't stick the franchise tag on Lance Briggs, they have confidence they can replace him with either Rod Wilson, Jamar Williams or a draft pick the way they drafted Briggs to replace Rosevelt Colvin.'

-- Chicago Tribune

I just seen a new dynasty draft posted somewhere and Briggs was LB # 22 selected behind guys like Wimbley, Brooking and Cato June :D

Do people really think he is either A.) Not every good outside of Chicago or B.) Going to actually hold out ???

I wish I was drafting a new team in a dynasty and could take Briggs as the 22nd linebacker, I think the kid has alot of talent and would do well in most places and I highly doubt he actually holds out when September rolls around.

Am I delusional cause I'm a Briggs owner or are other people buying the hype?

He was #9 here.

That's uncommon, but I would attribute that to uncertainty about where he'd end up. He'd almost certainly have to take a step down in terms of fantasy production if he departed Chicago, which is IMHO an ideal fantasy situation for him. It's definitely ridiculous that June is ahead of him, especially if that draft was done after June was signed by Tampa.

You must be talking about my League's Draft Report....My Webpage

There was about 4 too 5 owners who didn't know anything about IDP talent.

We start up 4 LBs and play a total of 9 IDPs; heres what went though my head.

At 8.11: I began my IDP selections w/ Kirk Morrison.

At 9.07: I went w/ Offense

At 10.08: I looked at Briggs and passed because of his situation, I took Bart Scott w/ a smile.

At 10.12: Again I looked at Briggs and passed, I went w/ the #1 scoring DB from last yr; Chris Hope.

At 2 11ths I went w/ a back up RB and QB

AT 12.07: I had Briggs highlighted until he was selected 3 picks ahead of me, I settled w/ EJ Henderson.

Brian Urlacher threw his support behind teammate Lance Briggs, who has threatened a holdout if the Bears don't rescind the franchise tag and its $7.2 million salary or trade him. Asked if he expected to be playing alongside Briggs when the season opens, Urlacher answered, "Right now, I don't think he will be there." -- Chicago Tribune

The interview I saw with Urlacher put him in a tough position. He supported him but said the position he took was an extreme one. He also said he hopes Briggs is back.Urlacher doesn't want to take sides on this but wants his friend back. He said he talks to him every other day. What's he supposed to say?

:lmao: Urlacher's trying to make everyone happy, so I doubt he's going to be a good source for objective commentary here.
