WIS 2012: Back to the Future II - Draft and Season Thread (1 Viewer)

i found that hardcore Rangers fan hate Uehara. i don't get it. he should have been on the post-season roster. would have been nice to see him pitching in the late innings of game 6.
case in point... this is a blog post by local media from yesterday, talking about Uehara no longer being on the trade market:
He was a huge disappointment in 2011 after being acquired from the Baltimore Orioles at the trade deadline. He was no better than average in his regular-season appearances with Texas and downright awful in the postseason, compiling a postseason ERA of 33.75 before being left off the World Series roster.
Uehara pitched 18 regular season innings for Texas. He had a WHIP of 0.78, with 23 strikeouts and only 1 walk. Yes, he gave up 5 homers, a rate more than double his career average. In the post-season, he had 3 appearances, with a total of 35 pitches. Yes, he gave up a HR in each of those 3 appearances, but talk about small sample sizes.
Relievers are especially vulnerable to SSS swings.
A couple of bad outings can make a reliever unusable in the sim.
True. Although, I had Raphael Betancourt last year and he was carrying an ERA of 4.98 as late as July 6th, and had given up 6 HRs already at that point in the season. He only gave up 1 HR and 2 ER the rest of the season, and ended up in the Cy Young ranks in the sim as my closer.

13.15 - Placido Polanco, 3B, PHI
It was basically between Polanco and Morel when I last picked. Youth & upside versus age & defensive reliability. Nice pick at this point.
This was my fallback if Sizemore went before I could get him too, pretty much the exact same reasoning.
Was my fallback to Sizemore as well. Was hoping I could sneak him through to my 13th rounder. Didn't happen. Just hope Polanco keeps the D and that the hernia surgery he had let's him bounceback with the bat a little.

We're 14 rounds in and making good progress. By comparison, 1.01 in B2TF I wasn't made until this date in 2011.

Morel has no upside, hth.
How much crack do you think this writer is on? Enough to be an extra in New Jack City 2?Seriously, Morel's 24, nowhere near a closed book, and should play all season at 3B. Would it be all that crazy if he progressed enough to hit better than replacement level? Anyhow, need someone usable in case Prado doesn't qualify or doesn't have good enough defense at third.

I think he's on boatloads of drugs. You're right though, they'll give him plenty of chances, I just don't think he's any good. I think the 8 homers in the final 27 games was a fluke and that he's a guy with a little pop, that never walks and doesn't have a ton of upside. Danny Valencia is a good comparison imo.

I'm a dummy though, so what do I know...

I thought a lot about Guthrie. As a Rockies fan I really want him to do well, but I think his outlook is hard to predict. In his favor -

Moving out of the AL East

Will get a decent number of starts in Petco, AT&T, and Dodger Stadium

Always seems to outpitch his peripheral stats

Working against him -

Flyball pitcher with a history of >1 HR/9, will make half his starts at Coors

Always seems to outpitch his peripheral stats

That was the big thing, and I'm not sure Coors Field is that much worse than Camden.
