WIS 2012: Back to the Future II - Draft and Season Thread (1 Viewer)

Ibanez is a guy I really wanted to possibly save my corner OF situation, but I had no idea where I would need to take him. He's probably going to get a good chunk of his AB's at DH, but if he plays at least some OF I think his slash line in Yankee Stadium will be good enough.

If only I had a plan at SS.

 
My crew so far...

CF Denard Span

SS Yunel Escobar

LF Matt Holliday

3B Evan Longoria

RF Jason Heyward

1B Gaby Sanchez

2B Gordon Beckham

C Jonathan Lucroy

As long as Holliday and Longoria stay healthy, I should be able to provide them with a top of the order that gets on base between Span, Escobar, Heyward, and Sanchez. The posted lineup is best case with Span bouncing back to his 2009 form and Heyward leaving the injuries behind. I do think there is some upside at the bottom of the lineup but not expected. Defensively, they catch the ball with the possible exception of the corner outfield spots. Span should provide A range in CF and Longoria is Longoria.

SP Mat Latos

SP Chad Billingsley

SP Ryan Dempster

SP Jonathon Niese

Hoping that Latos can keep the balls in Great American Ballpark and provide borderline #1 numbers. Billngsley and Dempster should eat up innings and might provide a borderline #2 and #3. Might. Niese could end up with the best numbers on the staff and I am hoping for 200 innings.

Man, that last run of picks crushed my short list. Liriano, Gamel, and Trout all have some pretty serious upside to get now.

Scoob up then Franco unless TU pops back in.

 
Damn, I really wanted Aviles, he would have been a good utility/insurance guy.

Another roll of the dice for my pitching staff. I hope someone else was looking at this guy and I didn't just pick him 4 rounds too early.

Ran across his name when researching Vargas. You can never tell who will last in these things ... pretty much impossible to play VBD.

Breaking ball is solid, that split/change thing he throws is a true plus pitch and the command/control is outstanding. Highest praise I've heard is a Tim Hudson comp, lowest I've heard is a solid No.4 starter. (Kevin Goldstein)That + Safeco sounds good to me.

Pirate run!!!!

I've had AJ at the top of my list for like 3 rounds now. I really, really want to believe that PNC and a new atmosphere will make him 100% better. I see the stories about him getting up early and running before anyone else is at camp. The Pirates have a good defense behind him, at least up the middle. If there is anyone with top-40 potential, he's it.

But still, he's AJ Burnett.

Hanrahan, by the way... top 10 RP In This Formattm and maybe top 5.

Hard to believe he's 35 already
 
AJ has some work to do if he wants to top Lackey's record of horrific IP's that are unusable for the sim. It's not easy to get run out there for 180+ innings with an era of 8.

I said that kind of thing a lot during the WIS 2011 draft. Really had the mid-2000s in my head a little too much -- there were a few guys that I recalled being in-their-prime studs (no, not Wagner and Kendall) that turned out to be complete flame-outs.
 
13.18 - Matt Harrison - SP

14-9 with a 3.39 ERA last year and he is not even assured a spot in the starting rotation. These are not your father's Texas Rangers.

I still look for him to pitch a good number of innings either starting, or long relief, and when on has some of the best stuff on the staff (for a white guy with funny facial hair).

I was as surprised as you that Marcus Giles didn't turn out last year. To be honest, both of the Giles brothers were a little underwhelming.
