my theory with Rickie is that if he doesn't get hurt he is going to play every single game and not ever get tired.Beyond that, i can move him around. If I choose to draft another leadoff hitter, I can move Rickie to other spots in the lineup and still get production out of him as he has power and will drive in runs if I put him in a position to do that. Not that WIS really notices this (I'm sure), but Rickie hit .304 with a .426 OBP with runners in scoring position last year. Now if only he can start hitting like that every time he comes to the plate...But that's my thought. He's got a versatile bat and will get a ton of ABs at a position that doesn't have a ton of greatness at the plate...

In pretend baseball, the Sim has a way of punishing players with high K rates. The shallownessh of pitching will probably help them a bit.

Oh I'm used to it...we're currently doing a 16 person draft in Cake with 14 hitters. It's craptacular. Pretty soon the pitchers will suck soon

WIS uses fielding percentage and relative range factor to give defensive grades. I believe range includes a normalization for games or innings played because guys with a lot of partial games at a position get screwed for range. Catchers also get a throwing arm rating based on CS percentage (except for Victor Martinez who just automatically gives the runner the base).If you haven't played WIS, I'd strongly recommend signing up for a free WIS spring training league so you can get a feel for the Draft Center and sim engine.

Scoobus, go to whatifsports.com and set yourself up an exhibition baseball team. Don't actually draft the squad, however -- just use the Draft Center to research player stats. Fielding is shown at the far right.Whatifsports uses a letter grade system that goes from A+ down to D-. Each player (except catchers) gets two grades -- one for their Glove and one for their Range. These grades are expressed like so: A+/C
Catchers have an extra grade for their throwing Arm. Their grades work look like so: A-/B/C+

Now that I have my 3 pitchers picked I can share my theory (that is all it is). I figure that if I have 3 or 4 decent hitters that I can cobble together enough hitting to compete. Pitching is not the same beast. You cant platoon 2 starters the way you can 2 hitters. I wanted to make sure I had a big 3 so that I will be in most games. I might not score a ton of runs, but I should be in a lot of close games.

Hamels was the other guy I was considering so for the 3rd round in a row I will take the hitter instead.

Not sure how I'm going to make the lineup work, but getting probable A defense out of a guy with his offensive upside is worth it for me. Plus, the homer factor of course.

He improved a lot against LHP last year, although I doubt he'll have a .899 OPS against lefties.I think we're way too early for a SOD.

Yeah, his defensive rating was kind of a shocker for me. I'll be interested to see if that holds up in 2011.
