WIS MMXI: Back to the Future Edition- Draft & Season Thread (3 Viewers)

I currently have3 starters that haven't taken a walk and another with an OBP lower than his BA (is that even possible?). Fun.

After about 8 games or so:

Brandon Phillips, Freddy Sanchez, Asdrubal Cabrera, Aramis Ramirez, Mark Teahen, Justin Verlander, Javier Lopez: :excited:

Colby Lewis, Fausto Carmona, David DeJesus, Jonathan Sanchez, Justin Germano:

Juan Pierre, Joe Mauer, Magglio Ordonez, Brett Cecil, Carlos Marmol:

James Loney, Mike Pelfrey: :X

Everyone else:

Stock watch:Whoever has Phil Hughes: way down
:bag: I think I am going end up a few innings short, but that looks like it might be a common problem. On the bright side I might have excess CA and MI plate apperances which are looking to be a premium. It is going to be real interesting to see how these final rosters end up. I think there is going to be a lot trading going on come October.

I suspect we'll also see more trading during the sim as well.

I've had some bats going nuts during the first week - Votto, Montero, Beckham, Gordon, Herrera (OBP machine). If Hardy's injury lingers past his 15 day DL stint I'm going to be hurting at SS though. Herrera will get the 8-10 games that Tulo will sit (barring injury), but will probably have fewer than 300 PAs as a utility guy.

Considering Ubaldo's situation my pitching could be in worse shape. He should end up only missing two starts and be his usual self, not the 90 MPH junkballer he was reduced too in his lone start. Holland looks good so far if he can stay healthy.

Well at least I have a plethora of crappy IPs and PAs to choose from. I also love that my initial SS now 2B has the yips.

Who would have figured that fielding would be the undoing of Jack Wilson?

14.07 - Bogart - Alexi Ogando - SP/RP

I should probably be able to wait on this guy, but just in case, will go ahead and take him.

1.30 ERA and a 1.128 WHIP last year. He will be this year's CJ Wilson, not Feliz.
Early results, but I am totally digging this pick.

I have Ogando in a bunch of leagues that count.I thought the Rangers wouldn't waste Feliz by putting him in the bullpen and Ogando would close, but this works too.

I have 91 2B PA's already.

Of course, only 24 times on base in those 91 PA's.

My pitching is okay so far with a solid start by Francis, Lannon, and Chen. Injuries to Wells, Pineiro, and Ohlendorf could be the beginning of a problem reaching the required SP innings. Looks like a possible ton of solid relief innings though.

My offense is in the tank dropping to a 725 OPS although it appears that only injuries could be me from having plenty of sub par PA's everywhere.

I think I am going to end up with about 6 useful relievers. That is 2 more than I am legitimately going to need. If anyone is interested I am looking for a hitter at 2B.

Pitchers are struggling - lot of optioned players on my team - Zach Britton hopefully holds up as a nice surprise

Furcal WAIT!!!!11111

Looks like Larry needs SS help now. May want to talk to Hoos...though DeJesus was brutal before going down.

Hoping for enough Uribe starts at SS to get a decent rating. Although it would be nice if he could hit over 200.I have no idea how anyone is talking about trade now. Sure, needs might be showing up. But we are all one injury and one trade away from our areas of depth turning into areas of weakness.I have 8 RP with at least 4 appearances along with 5 pitchers with 2 starts and 2 more who should come back from injury to give 20+ starts. I am looking plenty of PA's to fill up the position needs. Posey backed up by Whiteside should give enough PA's, Davis at 1st with Helton on the bench, Barney as a platoon major player at 2nd with Rhymes getting PA's, Castro at short with Barney as his backup if hurt, Rolen at 3B with his backup Francisco along with Uribe getting PA's at 2B and 3B so far and probably SS to come, and I have 3 everyday OF's with Murphy and Craig and maybe Duncan looking to get enough PA's for the bench. However, a couple of injuries and I would be in full search mode for PA's.

Isn't that the fun of this though...right now I have 3OFs getting regular ABs with one guy having a bad tummy. I'm a Damon pulled calf from being close to dead.I do think it will be tough for me to not have enough IPs though. I'll be close to 200 by Friday which is less than 10% of the season.

My team is very much in a wait-and-see mode. I expected the pitching to start slow with much of my innings eaters starting on the DL with returns coming soon.

Getting what I thought out of my outfield, catchers are doing better than expected, Young and Moreland are riding that Ranger wave right now.

My bench is pathetic, but that also was to be expected.

TRE's early returns:

Catcher: A -- Arencibia and Wilson Ramos both playing plenty and hitting well. Gimenez on the DL, but was being used a bit. Flores in minors but has been dangled as trade bait.

1st Base: C- -- Barton getting on base via the walk, but not hitting much and also has made three errors. Dan Johnson still getting PAs, but is brutal. Steven Pearce has 1 game at 3B.

2nd Base: D+ -- Nishioka out 4-6 weeks with fibual fracture and he wasn't hitting before the injury. Maicer Izturis is raking and has 1 game at 2B. Might be a platoon with Izturis backing up SS and 3B as well. Eric Young may get a shot at some point.

3rd Base: C- -- Used a relatively early pick on Mark Reynolds for his pop. He's at 241/333/448 and K's 27% of the time. Plus he has 2 errors. Izturis backs up. Steven Pearce has 1 game at 3B.

Shortstop: A -- Tulo has 4 homers and a 405 obp. Izturis backs up. A few fliers in the minors not looking good.

Outfield: B -- Five OFers are getting full or near full time play: Chris Young, Pagan, Ibanez, Venable, Parra. Young, Parra and Ibanez hitting ok, Pagan with 4 steals, but not hitting yet. Venable is a slug so far.

Starting Pitching B- -- Haren is ace material so far. Tommy Hanson and Wandy getting knocked around early, but should rebound. Blackburn and Charlie Morton have been great. Cashner looked good but then hurt his rotator cuff. Homer Bailey still on the DL. Matt Palmer got a spot start, but was shelled. Looks like I'll have plenty of IPs.

Relief Pitching B- -- Venters and Street have been great. Kevin Gregg too in 3 short outings. Wilton Lopez has been ok. Choate, Veras, Wilhelmsen and Jepsen have been bad. Also have 4 more assorted minor leaguers and hurt dudes that might factor.

Overall, I'm not too worried yet. Some of my guys that are doing poorly have pretty good track records and I have some guys stepping up right now.

the Fantrax thing is great. thanks again, TRE.

one suggestion: make the PA and IP categories "real" categories, so that teams are ranked and sorted. easier to see who might have depth, and also i think these cats are nice proxy measures anyway.

One of the things I'm really interested in is how the rankings in Fantrax compare to the simulation when we get to it. Also, thanks to TRE. This whole thing is awesome IMO, more fun than any other fantasy league or sim I've ever done.

Big day for TRE's Magic Wandy's yesterday...jumped 7 spots in the standings!

Good games for Hanson and Haren as well as a .514 obp for the day is all it takes I guess.

Way to lose my first rounder.

I'm never drafting Rangers again. It's a double punch to the stomach when they go down.

Big Day for Sammy3469...Gallaraga's dump managed to dump me into last place. Yippee. I actually don't think my team is that bad, but no depth at the moment after the guys that would start.

Posting from phone... julio borbon available?
The Hamilton injury makes Borbon a lock for not missing any playing time for a while. The Rangers calling up Chris Davis over Endy Chavez or Craig Gentry tells me that they are set to roll with Borbon in CF from here on out. The only other guy that could play CF is Murphy and that is shaky at best. Now, if he could only improve on the 0.160 start...

Any chance Moreland will get some PT in the OF?

Very good chance. Instead of calling up an OF to replace Hamilton, they called up 1B/3B/K Machine Chris Davis. Moreland becomes the 4th OFer by default. No one else on the bench, Young, Blanco, Davis can play the OF. So there will be days where you see Young/Davis/Napoli at 1B and Moreland in RF/LF to give Cruz or Murphy a day off.

Good to know. Thanks.

 Ike Davis, Todd Helton, Starlin Castro, Darwin Barney, David Murphy, Bruce Chen!, Jeff Francis, John Lannan, Bullpen, PA's

 Scott Rolen, Juan Uribe, Will Rhymes, My starting outfield, 6 pitchers on the DL

How do doubleheaders work? Do I get stats from game 1 on the day of the original game or do I get both games stats today?
Why wouldn't you get stats from both games?
I was referring to the "live scoring"... Was wondering if they'd update in real time with the rest of the teams or if I'd have to watch the boxscore...it had game 2's time listed (it changed overnight from the original start time) and was late to start updating the stats for both games...
