WIS XV: Alphabet Soup with a side of Salary- Draft & Season Thread (1 Viewer)

more controversy - Sammy is in the wrong ballpark

sammy3469 ============== Tropicana Field

Sammy3469 (owner: kopkinds)

Turner Field (Atlanta Braves: 1997-2011)

OK, SNC has Frank Isbell (correct) but Arsenal has Isbell (incorrect) instead of Kaz Ishii
START THE DRAFT OVER!!!!
If we did, all the good Z's, QI's, Y's, and other difficult would be off the board in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounds. I think we all learned our lessons when it comes to the difficult letters.
Really? I think I have more regrets about not taking top-end talent sooner. Sure, my Z guy has 42 HRs, but he's still on my bench.

:goodposting: I think the actual letter choosing strategy has some bugs to work out. I saved some of the better letters until the end, and they felt a bit wasted.

True, but there was some very solid talent available in the late rounds (Jeff Bagwell and Zach Wheat come to mind). Some of the good letters left were filled to fill voids/roles on our rosters and yeah, probably were wasted (I wanted someone better than Luebke for my late L, that's for damn sure).Me personally, I might have not gone Campy and Foxx for my first two picks and might have gone obscure letter. But that's just me I guess.

I'd actually like to do another one of these alphabet drafts fairly soon -- I don't think we've played out the concept. Maybe tweak a few things to lend interest (post-WWII only, different price points, etc.).Wouldn't mind seeing U & Z combined, and then having a second wild card :D

Foxx was very muich worth an early first-rounder, despite being an OF. He was probably the best overall bat available, and F wasn't all that deep.

Yeah, and he's been a beast in early sims. Despite being a 1B, can't deny that he can crush a lot.

I think when you make your first round pick you have to also pick which letter or letters you will use in the wildcard round would be rad.

I say next one we do the letters again but we switch it to first name.... :)

One variation I thought of was to use actual first names instead of letters. You'd need a Steve, a Bob, a ####, etc. for a full roster.

"I have to take him here, he's the best **** available plus fills a position of need.":giggle:I'm willing to run the franchise one if we want to that one anytime soon.

I may be alone in this, but I think the dynasty league idea might actually kill what we have going here. We have our own sort of "dynasty" situation here with the continuation of these leagues with familiar faces and fresh ideas. I'd hate to see it crash because we got into a dynasty league that fractured the core of the group.

OK, rosters are approved and realignment is done. WIS will generate the schedule tonight and after that we can start playing live.

Before I did much research I put together what I thought would be the best 10-15 players. Here it is:

Initial Top 15 or so

Utley

Leonard

Yount

Verlander

Foxx

~~

Ted Williams

Pujols OF year

Koufax

Tiant

L Walker, Ruth, Bonds

~~

Votto

Alexander

Napoli/Javy Lopez

Verlander is a tough pick because he's a legit #1 but you have to pick a -HR park and build your team around him. So I'd pick him early in round 1 before I was locked into a stadium, but if I picked a park like Bennett and he was still available, he'd drop way down my board. Same with Tiant to a lesser extent.

Votto is a tough call, he's a starter but not really a top-10 guy. If you're only planning to go 20-22 letters deep you can probably pass on him, but if you want a 5-man rotation and some platoons then he's worth a 1st rounder.

Having done the draft I don't know if I'd change much other than Votto, I do think Ruth should be higher and maybe Bonds and Walker could slide a bit. I do still think Utley and Yount are worth high picks, and given Piazza's bat I'd probably put him into the top 10. I just wasn't sure how much base-stealing would be drafted, and it turns out there wasn't a lot.

If we were going to do a progressive, it would probably be best to run it separately with a smaller group of core owners. Hate to pimp my unborn baby but this actually might be a good fit for the WWII years: a four-year progressive with higher than usual player movement.

Less than 48 hrs until Pfiester stars his 40 HR campaign!

Derp derp

Wait -- people are actually wanting to take the 2011 BTTF rosters, and carry them forward?
No, if anything dynasty related happened it would have to involve redrafting for dynasty purposes. I would do both a redraft and dynasty format, but if we only do one I'd also rather it be a redraft format.

the schedule should be up tomorrow in the am or after their next update? Drunk simliving games that count tonight would be peachy.
