WIS XVII - The Cartereaganbush League: Scoobus beats Sammy in the Wis Series (2 Viewers)

Nahhhhhhhhh

Just everyone talking about only 10 or 11 man pitching staffs made me double check.  Guess defensive subs and pinch hitting is bigger in this thing than BTTF.
Some guys like to turn the lights on, let the season run, check in with a light touch.

Some of us like platoons, replacements, split starters and other weird ####.

:nerd:   :nerd:  gonna :nerd:

There is also the double effect of this format. For one, some might have wanted more innings in less players to allow them a couple more swings and misses later on, so more bats.  On the other hand, it’s a bit harder to plan for subtleties like PH or replacements when you have that uncertainty (maybe you get a fit late with ok offense but bad defense in one year, the opposite in another, a third that’s a wasteland - harder to plan for and execute certain specifics)

The site recommends 6000, but I don't think batter fatigue has every really been a problem with these open salary drafts. I've maybe had a catcher or two that get tired.
Generally not, but there have been times when I've wanted to squeeze every extra game I could out of a good batter with limited PAs (1980 George Brett's 515 PAs is a good example). So sometimes that good batter gets trotted out at 99 or 98%.

To my experience, batters playing in the high 90-percents do all right. Pitchers, not so much.

2B Steve Sax   722 PAs                      SP1 Mike Caldwell 294 IPs

CF Kirby Puckett  696 PAs                SP2 Bob Knepper 260 IPs

1B Don Mattingly  732 PAs               SP3 John Candelaria 175 IPs

3B Edgar Martinez   592 PAs            SP4 Moose Haas 253 IPs

RF Harold Baines/Larry Herndon 1276 PAs  Swing/MRP Frank Tanana 248 IPs

SS Hubie Brooks/Jeff Blauser 770 PAs     CP Tug McGraw

C Darren Daulton 540 PAs with Cliff Johnson sprinkled in

LF Jerry Mumphrey 622PAs

That's a good lineup because I have some nice #1s and #2a.  Pitching should be good but not great, I have a lot of innings at least. The bullpen probably won't be good, every time I drafted a reliever I got the worst option.

I have two unusable players, Randy Velarde and Mel Rojas.  That Velarde 2 roll is such bull####, FDAS is FDAS.

Looks like i am going;

Butler                                                          Steib                           Orosco

D Murphy                                                    Welch                         Ward

Garvey                                                         Deshaies                    McDowell

J Carter                                                       Hurst

Whitt/Steinbach                                        Lea

Gruber

Concepcion

Wills/Hubbard

Might do the best hitter 2nd shtick that is going around, though i may move Concepcion to 2 and push everyone down.  I could try Wills 2 based on speed, but his OBP is sub .350, so not ideal.  I am hoping to outpitch everyone and catch everything in my Minus park (Shea).  I feel very 82-80 here, its all about the SP, let's see if my 5 man roatation outperforms.

I'll probably move Burks in and out based on park and matchups.  OBPs aren't great but not terrible. Power is a bit light. Defense is meh.

Can't say Im upset here as I got lucky enough to recover from the worst possible scenario after rounds 1 and 2.  Tudor saved me, and I lucked out here more than batters, with Berenguer's great season, Leach's top season, and getting a solid SP Wegman and Kison late.

Four starters should be almost enough, with two SP in the pen. Saucier is trash, MU only though I likely won't need it.

Love downtown Pitt from a placemaking perspective.  Would love to see a ballgame there (baseball.  F the Steelers.  Sorry bud)
Not a Steeler fan. They can keep their rapist QB and their idiot fans.

PNC Park is amazing though. My favorite park.

Whole lot of good not great here...

Being the matchup :nerd: I am, kinda like this. Lot's of flexibility.  Gladden and Hargrove are perfect complements to Stargell and Gamble.

Above is one of two balanced lineups, the other would be Gladden and Stargell in place of Gamble and Hargrove.

Small ball lineup will have Hargrove and Gladden 1/2 with Tenace sliding to 6.

Power lineup will have Gamble and Stargell at 3/4 with Tenace and Lemon setting the table.

Also gives me some trade bait - could deal any of Gladden, Hargrove, Lemon, Stargell, Gamble and be able to cover things.
