The Dallas Morning News reports that Jason Witten has been diagnosed with a broken rib, but wants to play through the injury Sunday against the Giants.

Witten returned in Week 8 after suffering the injury, but was only able to play one series before exiting again. He hasn't missed a game since his rookie season, but Martellus Bennett and Tony Curtis would fill in if Witten sits.

Good lord...just sit and rest it until after the bye...I've already had to deal with a similar problem with LT. :goodposting:

If I'm coaching, I force Witten to sit and use this week and the bye week to heal. They don't figure to win this game as it is.

Yes, that's easy for me to say, and at 5-3 they're technically scratching for a wild card and every win counts, but that just makes the most sense.

If I'm coaching, I realize this is a huge divisional game and I will need all of my horses and then some. If Witten can play he will. I personally would rather see him sit, but from a coaches point of view, with the most talented team in America underperforming and everyone looking at me as a possible reason why...I want one of my most important offensive players in the game.

With the SLOP to choose from at QB, what's the difference? Choose your battles wisely.

Anyone else think in his limited time playing, Martellus Bennett has flashed some serious potential? It sucks that he's pigeon holed behind Witten because he looks like he has Gates type athletic ability.

He's not real polished as of yet, making typical rookie mistakes: missed blocks, missed assignments, dropped passes. That being said, you can definitely see his natural abilities and I think has a fairly high ceiling. I wouldn't be throwing around a name like Gates just yet though. As far as Witten goes, I get the sense that they'll hold him out of this game.

Ribs take longer to heal. 6 to 8 weeks, instead of 4 to 6, if I'm not mistaken. So I'm not sure how much the bye will even help.

Looks like he either decides to shoot up each week, or sit for awhile. Painful injury, even when you breath deep you can feel it. But I doubt it gets much worse by playing so shooting up isn't that big a' deal.

My guess? He wears some kind of flap-jacket and takes the shot(s) :nerd: .

Down here in Dallas they're saying it's a fractured" rib. Not sure how much diff. from broken(doctors in the house)

If that's true, I see him playing in a tough divisional game and resting it next week on the bye.

Bennett is OK, but undisciplined and young. He may show an occassional flash, but against the GMen, you want Witten

Not much difference at all. At least as far as pain is concerned. Fractures still hurt like hell.Let me speculate, until some internet doc inevitably corrects me, but I would guess that the biggest difference is just healing time.

Fracture=broken.Same thing.

He needs to sit for a couple of weeks, and let things start to mend.

These guys are being paid Millions of dollars, play in pain, no pain no gain...Jerry..get his butt out there!!!

JUST JOKING...LOL

I realize a fracture is a break.

Thought the question was if a fracture vs a break were different.Sorry to misunderstand.

He looks pretty good talent-wise... though he doesn't have the maturity level, attitude, and work ethic that you really want from a player (in Dynasty anyway).... at least that's my impression from watching the HBO show on the Cowboys' training camp/preseason.

Just asking not to much into medical terms...can a fractured rib (which I think is a cracked bone) splinter and can a small piece of that bone go into your artery system and affect your heart and kill you? Not sure but seems possible.

There are any number of scenarios that could take place with such an injury, including but not limited to a punctured lung and/or internal bleeding.

if it were Favre he would play.....get sacked 6 times....throw 4 picks...then throw the winning TD in the last few seconds of the game.

I hope Brett either calls or sends Witten a text message telling him to man up and play...
