Difficult, but figuring out whelp allowed me to avoid what I thought were two unavoidable 50/50s

Bread category seemed too easy. Thought it might be a trick.

That's a heck of a way to start. The only way to do better would be to ace the first guess! Nice work
Came out of the gate strong!

Not as good today.

Had to use a burner word - chank. Didn’t know that was even a word - was just trying to use five unused letters and it didn’t turn red.

Edit: Saw the 50/50 with deify and edify, so left it to the end. Thankfully, expel eliminated deify.

The Frazier Cheers combo was a neat trick. Initially, I thought it might be TV shows set in Boston, but then remembered that Felicity was set in New York.

I though it was Kelsey Grammer shows, but beyond the 2 obvious ones, didn’t know if he was in felicity, euphoria or glee.

I thought the TV show connection was a red herring. I thought they were looking for happy words. Turns out it was both. Didn't know there was a TV show called Euphoria.

I only know because of my daughter.i think it’s some kind of teenage angst show.

I would have aced the Connections puzzle today had I known what a paper crane was (I was quick to string Frasier, Whooping, and Construction together), so I took a detour.

Haven't watched the show, but I am a Zendaya fan.

I didn’t realize there were two related categories until I only had four words left.

I think we’d all appreciate it if you would screw up every now and then.

Surprised to see so many four guess connections today. Maybe I was rushing, but I thought today's was the most difficult in a while.

Knowing the record companies is key. In case you are interested in how I got there - I reviewed all the words and the word "clef" really only has one meaning. So I started looking for other words related to sheet music - note, rest and staff were really the only words that fit. Scales was a possibility, but the other words were actually items on sheet music, while a scale is more like a melody or composition. Once that category was solved, I next saw the zodiac signs. But there were five. Whenever there are five of a category, you have to start looking to see if one of them crosses over to another category. I saw capitol and columbia and the record company thing clicked along with virgin and island. Once that was solved, there were only 4 zodiac signs left. I had no idea what the connection was on the last four (three letter words maybe?) until the category was revealed.

I agree. I think I got lucky with four. It took me a good ten minutes to make even the first connection (Zodiac symbols). I knew the crab, bull and scales were, but needed to research to figure out that twins was one as well. The music one took a bit too, but once I had that down, the record labels were easy to spot. I didn't know the last connection until solving.

Yup, once I was able to lump Virgin with the record companies, the other categories resolved themselves.

Burner = Joist. But went Lower instead of Lover and my day was cooked.

Interesting. You left wedge for last, but that was my first word, even before the burner.

Yeah, I couldn't see a word there. Seems obvious now though. But in-game, I always had other words come more easily, so I kept moving along without it. My fatal flaw was not seeing Lover. I was confident when entering lower. And of course, solving Wedge would have fixed that problem.

Hope you all don't mind, I added a second sheet which is cleverly named Sheet2 in an attempt to make things a little more compact. I think I transcribed the scores correctly, but please verify. Also, it looks better in light mode vs dark mode imo.

Well darnit. The columns were summed at the bottom when I typed this up in Excel, but the SUM function got dropped when I pasted it into the Google Sheet. I'll add it back.

Regarding the scoring - are we just going to keep a indefinite running tally, or reset weekly/monthly/whatever ... or both? My thought to reset weekly (Mon-Fri), then have a separate list showing weekly winners and associated scores. I mean, it will just say bigbottom every week, but I'm ok with that.

I say we end it today!

I inevitably miss a day here and there and suspect others may as well. So maybe one week a month rather than every week?

What do you mean by "one week a month"?

I agree about missing days. I'm pretty good during the week, but have missed occasionally. One way to account for that would be to make a higher score a winner rather than a lower score. Basically make six points a perfect score on all games, and deduct from there. I don't know ... just kinda thinking and typing and am open to nearly anything ....

I mean we keep scores and have a competition one week each month. Instead of every week. I would think the likelihood of the six or so participants we have being able to commit to one week in a month is higher than doing it every week.

That would be fine with me as well. I do like keeping track this way, competition or not.
