There are certainly people that view massages as a sexual experience and go to them for that.  Then there are certainly people that go to massages to get tight muscles and sore areas worked on to feel better like athletes do.  But, there are also those that go to a massage to just have a relaxing experience and it doesn't fall into the sexual nature nor does it have to be a therapeutic massage on certain muscles.

I'm in that last group.  I actually dislike massages that are too strong as I find that uncomfortable.  I don't have to be fully nude for a massage either.  I've gotten massages from "Helga" the 220 lb sixty year old woman that's a 3/10 on the Offdee scale and don't mind at all.  I honestly don't care what my masseuse looks like nor do I get "excited" during the massage.  But it's a great experience to just relax for an hour and get a massage.  And I in no way find it enjoyable to go through that with a guy giving me the massage.  Nothing about it being sexual or homophobic at all.  Just can't enjoy that and that's the whole point of being there.  I wouldn't even get one if it were free.

So, never gotten a massage. Need one badly. What's the protocol? Fully nude? Wear your underwear? Swimsuit? Thong?

I called to find out about it and try and book one to give it a try. When I called back to request having a female, I was told they try their best to honor the request but they can't guarantee and won't know until you show up. You can't exactly just walk out and cancel at the moment if you get someone you don't like.

Would you still book a massage or would you cancel and not bother even though it's half the price of massages elsewhere?

i did this. but it was with a girl i knew through work 20 years ago. 

upside: she was hot

downside: i hurt like a mother####er after she beat the crap out of me

Read my post above.  It depends on what you're getting it for.  I once got a massage because I had really bad lower back pain and asked for someone stronger (female).  It hurt for an hour but it was great.  All the rest of my massages have not been for that.  It's to relax and be comfortable.  First time I wasn't fully nude.  So it's whatever makes you comfortable, honestly.  You're covered up anyway.

After getting it the first time, I realized how awesome they are.  That said, I've had maybe 15 massages total in my life.  I don't go often.  But, when I do, it's always been enjoyable and I always tell myself I need to go more.

As a runner, go nude - she's going to need to work dem glutes over real good. 

A word of advice though.... don't flinch if her thumb touches the balloon knot.  Trust me on this one.  :unsure:

I get that I might not know what I'm missing, but the idea of a professional massage never appealed to me. Are these things usually a full hour?  Even if I felt the need for a massage, I think I would hate that. I always figured it was a half hour tops.

Usually they are 30 min, 60 min, or 90 min.  I've had a 30 min massage before and it was just too short.  Just as you are starting to relax it's almost time to finish up.  90 min is on the longer side, but I'd go that way vs. 30.  I think an hour is perfect.

But, there are also places where you pay by the minute and you can get things as short as 10 or 15 minutes.  I can see that if you're going to get a certain area worked on and that's it.  In general, it's usually about $1/minute. 

All that said, I used to feel the same way about it not appealing until I got one.  You should go just give it a shot.  Lots of places will offer an introductory massage at a reasonable price (like $39 for an hour).  Do it and report back.

I go naked because I want them to work my glutes.  Work 'em hard.  I always request a lady but hate soft hands so I've never really been interested in students.  I would not turn down a guy if I needed the massage.

I haven't had too many massages, but the last one I had I ditched the boxers and when she was massaging my thighs I definitely got chubbed up. She wasn't attractive, and it wasn't sexual...but it was still a woman rubbing my thighs and making me feel very relaxed. Blood flowed there. It's science.

I always go naked but whatever you're most comfortable with is what you should go with.  Whoever is doing your massage has most likely seen everything from naked to clothed.

I was like you until I had one.  I'd had a couple of massages on vacation but they were weak and looking back, I'd bet they weren't trained at all.

That all changed after I had 3 weeks of straight travel.  Being in ####ty hotel beds, and then on a plane every 3 or 4 days for 22 days destroyed my back.  I went to a place recommended by a firefighter friend and the massage was amazing.  I must have talked about it a ton because the next month my wife set me up with a plan for 60minutes/month and I've been going for the last two years.  I prefer going 2 times every 3 months and getting 90 minutes.  As Gianmarco said, 30 minutes isn't even close to enough.

 
Yeah if there's any issue the half price is never worth it. Get a full price massage and feel good about it.

 
I have never had a massage from a guy.  However if I ever do, I think I would almost prefer it be from a gay guy.  For some reason it seems like it would be less awkward.  

 
As to the experienced part, as long as you give directions on what you want you likely won't get hurt.  I've always gone to AMPs and very few of those women have formal training.  Sure, you may get one who isn't very strong, but in general, they are very accommodating to requests.

I've been getting 30-40 massages a year for 15+ years.  Usually I get 1.5 or 2 hour massages, as 1 hour massages feel rushed.  Always fully undressed.  It's much more comfortable than wearing your underpants.  I'd never go to a school either as there is a huge difference between someone who knows what they're doing and a noob.  A cheap bad massage is disappointing and a waste of my time. Never had a massage from a guy, as I wouldn't be as relaxed/comfortable as I am with a woman.  It doesn't happen all the time, but occasionally it has "moved" during a massage.  I used to get embarrassed and would think about dead puppies or something.  But now I don't say or do anything.  It's a natural thing that happens sometimes...  No big deal, if you don't turn it into a big deal. 

 
Most of my massages have been by women, but a guy in my cycling club gave me a couple. He did it for a living and it felt great after he was done.

 
I've had under 10 massages and all by females.  However, I did have a male physical therapist when I had sciatica issues.  It felt a little weird when he started working the kinks out in my rear quad, then onto my buttocks.

But, weird that one time my Doctor was out the day of my Rectal exam and I agreed to the PA who turns out to be Female.

I was like, hmmmm why is it I want Massages by females but feel more comfortable with a guy Doctor's hand up my.......  :unsure:

injured my back about 20 years ago.  when i go in, i am not looking for happy endings.  no problem with a male unless he goes for the bean bag.

I've never gotten a professional massage. I'd be open to the idea as long as it was done by a stranger. Just in case it got weird, they couldn't shame me to my friends.

I also go nude as I like my glutes worked on.  Went to an AMP a couple of years back and they told me to leave on my underwear.  I said I didn't want them to get stained by the oil.  The woman then pulled out a pair of boxers for me to wear.  :X

Long story and wont go into details but I once was part of a conversation along these lines with a group of people where one guy said "smaller fingers" and a lady heard "smell her fingers".  It was maybe the greatest conversation in the history of ever.
