Let's assume that people you know think you'd be a great politician for your area/district and are willing to help get you elected.  Assume that the election finances are available and there's a very reasonable chance you would win if you ran for office.  Also assume you could take a hiatus from your current job and it would be waiting for you if/when you decide to come back.  Would you do it?

Do I have to fundraise or is charisma and intellect enough to get me the victory regardless?

I would do it for sure.  I've considered it at the urging of a friend, but my career as a failed accountant and construction PM aren't exactly pipelines into politics.

Maybe some, but assume the finances are there. You might have to partake in some events to get your name/face out there. But assume it's not a crazy time intensive process to potentially win.

Much easier to sit on the sidelines and complain. Plus if you really tried to change things for the better the machine would destroy you.

I've been asked to run for city council where I live.   Although I was mildly interested, I don't have the time.

I was on a city's historical preservation committee for several months but had to resign because we moved to Texas.  It was fun and interesting and I would definitely run for public office, especially if I was guaranteed to win.  I would want to at least try and make a difference.

I would but only at the federal level. I would do it to serve the country but I would probably hate it. I feel like local politics would be super frustrating and not worth my time.

State and local?  Hell no.  I don't want to sit through boring meetings on bonding and zoning all the other incandescently boring stuff that I skip over in the newspaper.

Federal?  Almost certainly not, but I would at least give it some thought.
