Wow - Bulger cut in our league today (1 Viewer)

Bulger was cut in my 12 team redraft today - FOR GRIESE. Keep in mind that this is a 6 point per pass TD league. He was the 25th pick overall by the team with the #1 overall pick (Brady went the next pick - ouch). His other QB is Schaub.

I'm sure there will be bidding wars galore for him next week. I'd rather have him on my roster than a #5 scrub WR.

Broken ribs or not - can't see how he's on anybody's wire while he's still walking upright.

wow, is there an extra spot in this easy-money league???

I traded Leinart/Warner/Ahman for Bulger/Huard/MJD - it's mostly a hold move but since it's a completion league I'll chance him this week.

This is a pretty serious, 13 year league. Decent cash too. Have to bring a $400 check at the draft, and with bidding wars the total pool is over 6K annually - 3K to the winner. Maybe he saw broken ribs + Jackson injury and had enough?

Yes, I definitely think this qualifies as decent cash.

Benched I could see but outright cut is ridiculous. That owner is going to be crying when Bulger gets back into his groove.

While I can't see cutting him what makes you think he's going to get back in his groove? He's hurts, his starting RB is hurt and they have 2 starting offensive lineman out for the season. It looks like St Louis is in for a long year.

After three weeks last year, Bulger had thrown for the same amount of TDs. Yeah, he has a few more things going against him but he can certainly has the ability to turn things around. It's not like he's Rex Grossman.

He hasn't been doing anything and you probably can't get much for him in a trade. If you gotta go you gotta go.
Yeah, that 300 yard game he threw for against SF was nothing. Honestly, this is a rash move. Ribs heal in a 2-3 weeks, and once Steven Jaxs is back, the oline will have gelled more and this team will put up points. COUNT ON IT.They have a favorable passing schedule as well. The overreactions are wild this year...

I own Bulger and Evans, and while I'm not happy about it, I'm not close to cutting either of them. In a 6-team league, maybe...

Smart. Lots of ability in those guys, not great current situations/trends. Why make a move with them at their lowest value point?I have Bulger, Norwood and Julius Jones, and simply have to hold them on the bench until something changes. The point where I'd consider dropping any of them won't come for many, many weeks.

I traded Garcia and Cotchery for Bulger and Evans this week, FYI. PPR league.
I'm obviously not disinterested, but that seems like a smart move to me. There's essentially no chance that Garcia or Cotchery will be better than average for their positions, so your downside risk is almost nil. Upside potential is big--more so for Evans than Bulger, in my opinion.

Message sent. I bet that shakes up that guys squad. :banned: Boy, I wouldn't want to be his next opponent. Besides he was just shrewdly sandbagging this weeks game so he might have a better waiver wire position so he can then snatch up the best available QB, which would be Bulg... Uh, bad move.

I think he broke those ribs in week 1, and then torched San Fran. Last I heard, he didn't get any more "dinged" in this last game...the o-line is nicked up, and I belive Icognito returns soon. Without Jackson, I'm assuming they'll be winging it all over the field....I think we'll see his INT numbers go up, but we'll see yds and TD's increase with it.

I saw both games (weeks 2 and 3) and there was a definite difference. Week 2 Bulger was getting pummelled but throwing the ball all over the place. Week 3 it was the SJAX 2 yards & a cloud of dust show. Personally I've actually had some thoughts of dropping him as week 3 was so depressing but instead will just put him on the bench and hope Favre will keep up his solid play.

I hope it turns around for Bulger. I know I easily could have picked up Kitna a few rounds later and have regretted the whole thing so far.

Issac Bruce isn't helping things. He gets a small hit on the head and dissappears for the game. Driver gets a much worse hit, stays in and scores a TD + mass yards. BLAH!

Maybe you're right but I just think with all the injuries to the offensive line, a banged up WR corp and the injury to Jackson I think the Rams' offense is going to struggle. Obviously cutting Bulger is a mistake because he's put up the numbers before but I think his numbers are going to take a huge hit this season. I see him falling back to the 12-15 range for QB's for 2007.

You don't stay down when you have Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce.

Bingo. And S-Jax will be returning. It's a loooong season and they will be 14+ points behind in EVERY game.

I would be surprised to see Sjax back by week 10....that groin stuff is no joke! Bulger will be wingin' IT!also, this is just my opinion, no medical knowledge or links to back it up.

A owner in my league just dropped him for Pennington, and his other QB is Delhomme. I would surely pick him up if we could roster more than 2 QB's.

Oh, it's his first year playing but he did seem to draft well and is 2-1.

Whoa.

similarly, some gimp in my league just dropped drew brees. his qbs now? pennington and derek anderson. it's just a ridiculous manuever -- if youre so determined to get rid of a guy, you can get SOMETHING for him. i'll bet theres a few people who would have traded their low-end starting QBs straight up for brees that would be a lot better than pennington or anderson.

makes no sense at all to just drop a guy like that.

This thread made me go and offer up some buy low trades involving Bulger.

SUCCESS!

Traded:

Favre + Witten

for

Bulger + Gates

I infer that you disagree about Cotchery. I could be wrong of course, but the Jets don't throw that much, they don't score that much, Cotchery is not their primary passing target, and he hasn't hinted at having exceptional talent prior to this season. So I think the chance that he has a big breakout season (say, as good as Evans had last season) is unlikely.

Si.BTW--the Jets have thrown more this year than both the Cowboys and Patriots. They're a little above average in this area. Coles/Cotchery is turning into a 1a/1b type of situation. Cotchery has 26 targets, Coles has 24.

So in a nutshell, yes, I disagree pretty strongly, but it's not one of those things I'm going on a 10 paragraph diatribe about. I'm too busy with Kevin Curtis in another thread, sadly.

Holt is dinged up as well. The problem with those guys is that they catch the ball and fall down or run out of bounds to avoid getting hit - they don't have the desire to run with the ball any more. Without Steven Jackson to take a swing pass and run it in, every TD Bulger throws is going to have to go into the end zone. In the days when St. Louis was racking up the points, they had slot receivers like Az Hakim taking quick slants and running them in, Marshall Faulk on screens, etc. Plus, Bulger is clearly not on the same page with his new weapons yet - how does he get picked off by Philip Buchanon when Drew Bennett has a foot on him?Bulger has taken a ton of abuse and has the broken ribs, which is why the St. Louis game plan was so conservative last week. I'm not convinced that Linehan is going to open up the playbook with DeMarcus Ware licking his chops across the line of scrimmage.

He was cut in my league last year and the guy who picked him up ended up winning the league and Bulger was a BIG reason for it. Bid high and go GET HIM!

Read the reports that the playbook was watered down last week? Protect Bulger and get Steven Jackson the ball... Except that Linehan forgot that in St. Louis you PASS to set up the run, not the other way around. Before last week, Bulger was doing what he does best, taking pressure and hits, and throwing the ball left and right for 350 yards. Linehan made the same exact mistake early last year. Linehan, being a former coordinator, tried to tweak the playbook to his liking instead of going with what the players knew and the proven system that worked. He tried to get cute and put his own personal touch on things. It didn't work then and it's not working now. Hell, last weekend alone, not one but two of Bulger's interceptions were due to a miscommunication between Bulger and the player. And one of those came in the endzone! For all you want to bring up Az Hakim and the glory days, I'll take Drew Bennett over that guy 7 days a week. That right there is a high quality WR#3. Holt's injured, but he has 2 TDs in 3 games. Bruce is old, but he caught 10 passes for 130 a week ago. Bennett once upon a time had back-to-back-to-back games with 500 yards and 8 TDs. Bulger threw for 4400 last season and over the past several seasons has one of the highest yards per game averages in the NFL, if not the highest. This is a BUY LOW situation people.

Bennett and McMichael have done nothing to remedy the Rams' problems in the red zone to this point, which was precisely the reason they were brought in. Bennett had one great stretch years ago with Billy Volek as his QB and is no spring chicken - I'm not ready to put Billy Volek in the fantasy hall of fame based on that performance, nor would I put Az Hakim there (but remember he put up 8 TDs himself back in the glory days). Two TD passes in three games is David Garrard numbers, not Marc Bulger. I'm hopeful that this is a buy low situation, but with Steven Jackson out, a decimated swiss cheese offensive line and a game on the road against a good team, I think it would be great if the Rams just get of Dallas without any more injuries.
