Wow Philly Really Screwed Dallas!!!! (1 Viewer)

Losing Burton doesn't quantify the need for using a 2nd round pick on a TE. I realize they can use Goedert in 12 personnel, but it was still a luxury pick.

Just my opinion, but I don't believe the Eagles are good enough to be spending 2nd round picks on backup TEs.
Please stop referring to Goedert as a back-up TE. That implies that he only plays when the starter (Ertz) doesn't. He and Ertz will be on the field a lot together. Especially with Jeffrey on the shelf for now. 2nd TE is a better description.

And adding another viable weapon in the passing game is exactly what the Eagles could use. While they don't have superstars at the skill positions on offense other than Wentz, they have productive players at every position. There is a reason that the Eagles had 3 (Jeffrey, Ertz, Agholor) of the top 18 leaders in TD receptions last year. They take what the defense gives them and they have players that can win one on one matchups. Losing Burton doesn't seem like that big a deal but he caught 5 TD's last year, the same number of TD's as Jason Witten last year and just one less than Dez Bryant last year. So the Eagles plug in another player who can be effective around the goal line. Smart move.

I am very excited to stop talking about what we think will happen and actually see the results out on the Field.

I believe Goedert also has a different skill set than Ertz.  Goedert is a better intermediate/deep threat than Ertz who is better at the shorter, tight windows.  Both will be a threat inside the RZ.  Imagine being at the 5 with Ertz, Goedert, and Jeffery with Sproles or Clement in the backfield?  Defend the run or the pass?

Yes, but calling him a 'backup tight end' is his way of convincing people (himself) that it was a bad pick.  He's not a backup tight end, everyone knows that.  He's still holding onto his Rico dream.  Saturday when Rico is cut it will all be Garretts fault and he'll still think Dallas didn't want to draft a tight end because of Rico.

I didn't realize how many yards Goedert had in college. I know it is lesser competition which matters of course (Missouri Valley Conference) but 1200 yards and 1100 yards is a hell of a lot for a tight end.

even though Cowboys TE spot looks bleak , it's not indicative that they wanted or needed Goedert at that pick. Williams , so far , seems to be a great pick and prospect who will help immediately.
