Back in February, Aiyuk was asked of he wanted to re-sign with the 49ers, to which he replied: "If that's the right move, yeah." When asked what would constitute "the right move," he remarked: "Being a champion."

It seems being a champion is no longer a priority if he's willing to play for Washington or Pittsburgh.

I agree with your point, although I think there is a pretty big gap between Washington and Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh seems like a likely playoff team again, especially if they add Aiyuk. Definitely not as strong a Super Bowl contender as SF, obviously, but Washington is a whole different story.

As long is Daniels is capable he would most likely see an increase in targets and treated as a focal point in the offense. PIT with Arthur Smith would be a career killer statistically.

Lamb has been smart not to talk about the contract, but most of the stuff I've read says that he plans to hold out. Lamb is getting 4 mil more. But it definitely feels more likely that Dallas will pay Lamb than SF paying Aiyuk. It just feels like SF doesn't value Aiyuk as much because they think they can find the production. That could be wrong obviously, but I think using a 1st round pick on a WR hints that may be true.

Either way I just don't think the situations are the same.

No not really any at all. You can be unhappy, sulk, hold-in during a lot of camp. That's really all you got to play your hand and it's not much.

Since the new CBA guidelines to basically eliminate holdouts went into place the only player to miss a game, which was a game, was Chris Jones. Not sure that worked out for him, he got some incentives added but they did not waive his fines because you can't.

Holdouts are pretty close to a thing of the past.

He thinks going public with his "negotiating" will help. He's trying to win going through the fans to put pressure on the team.

I've negotiated 2 collective bargaining agreements and rarely does it help going to the media or public. Best negotiating is done behind the scenes and just keep at it. It just gets messy when it goes public and people start pointing fingers.

I do hope it works out for Aiyuk as he is a great WR and does deserve to be paid. But the team can only offer so much if they want to keep all their stars.

Right now Aiyuk is a much better route runner and blocker. Aiyuk knows his value to this offense and if he is gone it is a big blow for this year especially if Deebo keeps getting hurt.

Could be. But truly getting his bag may be a full 3 seasons away with the tag, and without long term security, it could all be gone with one injury in that timeframe and he knows that.

He's been a team player, but at some point he's going to want that security. And if he feels slighted or disrespected by SF not going back to the table on a long-term deal, then I could well see it becoming a distraction.

He may not have much leverage, but SF needs to be cognizant of the potential disruption as they try to win a SB. Is it worth it over $3m/yr, or whatever they are apart (if they offered $26m per, and he wants $29m, as I've seen in a few places. No idea if those are the real numbers though).

It's easy for us to say stuff like this when it's not our bodies and livelihoods at stake. He's one play or hit away from having his value crater. What kind of contract will he get if he blows up his knee or worse? He might have just one more contract, so IMO it makes sense to play it safe and not put his body at risk.

IMO his best play is to play the "hold in" card.

Not necessarily. Aiyuk could take the protect my body route ala Lamar Jackson. The 9ers would be fools to slap the franchise tag next year if he follows that path this season. Should free him from CBA chains a year sooner.

Agree Aiyuk has been a great team player giving his all. But when you give it all and rise up to elite status, it’s disrespectful to jerk him around with cap games.

Recent history suggests a WR trade would be for draft compensation, and not include players. I think the 49ers missed their trade window if they were looking for help for this season.

Since the new CBA guidelines to basically eliminate holdouts went into place the only player to miss a game, which was a game, was Chris Jones. Not sure that worked out for him, he got some incentives added but they did not waive his fines because you can't.

Holdouts are pretty close to a thing of the past.

If SF ultimately balks at extending him, I think he may actually be better off from a FF standpoint in WAS with Daniels. As long is Daniels is capable he would most likely see an increase in targets and treated as a focal point in the offense. PIT with Arthur Smith would be a career killer statistically.

while I like the talent of Daniels, I am not a big believer in the organization as a whole. if Daniels succeeds its despite the organization and their lack of competence. I feel that if anybody can ruin this talented young man's career it will be Washington.

the other issue is what does Washington have that they could give to San Fran in a trade? San Fran wants to win now. I dont think they'd be ok with draft picks.

Recent history suggests a WR trade would be for draft compensation, and not include players. I think the 49ers missed their trade window if they were looking for help for this season.

True, but I do wonder if a rebuilding team would trade a veteran WR and something. Adams wants to leave Las Vegas, maybe something could be worked out there?

How about Vegas?

Aiyuk for Adams and a 2nd rounder? SF stays in the win now window, Raiders get younger. Raiders have a good amount of cap space for a long term deal. Adams gets to stay on the west coast. Adams could fit in real quick as LaFleur in GB ran a Shanahan style offense.

Aiyuk would be the centerpiece of the offense in Vegas (so it could be good for his numbers) we saw what Minshew did for Pittman, who is a lot less talented than Aiyuk.

ETA: Raiders HC Antonio Pierce was at Arizona St when Aiyuk was as well.

This new regime is not married to anyone besides who they drafted. I agree with the history, but if they have a chance to get a younger weapon for their new QB (whom he has some familiarity with) it may be a consideration. A long shot, but not an insane option.

Exactly, he hasn't quit on anyone - he wants to be paid. Who knows what will happen in the future but there is likely a WR needy team that will pay him. Just look at some of the deals other WRs have signed as FAs. Christian Kirk is the first to come to mind. Unless Aiyuk does something really stupid he's going to get paid somewhere eventually.

SF might as well just pay Aiyuk. Adams cap hit in 2025 and 2026 if they kept him is $44M each year.

They could have Aiyuk for cheaper than $44M cap hit in 25 and 26.
