WR Brian Thomas Jr., JAX (1 Viewer)

I hate this ambiguous ****. 2-4 weeks or starting on Sunday? What is it?!
I think its more like "if the MRI shows cracked ribs....it could be 2-4 weeks" they use those words for the clicks.

Sure, a lot of things "could" happen also, but I"m not reporting on hypotheticals.

Sounds like he avoided the worst and should be able to play, possibly this week but it doesn't sound like he's going to miss significant time.

How are you drawing that conclusion from Fowler’s tweet? If anything, it sounds like he’ll be soliciting two opinions and that can’t be good. There are a bunch of ways we can take it. We can take it that they’re being extra cautious with their prized rookie. We can take it that there’s damage there and they want to be sure via second opinion. We can take it that it’s only a “could” modifying the missed time clause of the tweet.

But we can’t really say it doesn’t sound like he’s going to miss significant time and that he avoided the worst, unless by worse you mean a clavicle break and by significant time you mean “more than four weeks.”

It’s not a good situation, really. It’s also too bad because Jax might have pulled the game out with him in there, although they did march down the field and score when he wasn’t in the game. It’s really their defense that blew it at the very end.

Eh, that's what it sounds like *TO ME* sorry I didn't include those words. If you think he is gonna be out 4 weeks, run with it. Make plans. I do not.

NOW

If he misses this coming week against my Eagles, I'm not gonna be too mad either.

No, I knew that. I was wondering what the thought process was to get to that from Fowler’s tweet, which sounds way more ominous than first feared for the young man. I thought he might have a deep bruise or something, but I didn’t think he had cracked ribs.

fully agree. You dont seek a 2nd opinion when you are expected to miss a week or two. you seek one when you are out for a long time or surgery is required.

this is concerning and you should be worried about it.

Could miss 2-4 weeks per Fowler. So much for a minor injury.

Interesting, QT’d by Michael Dirocco who appears to be an ESPN jags reporter

Just spoke with #Jaguars WR Brian Thomas in locker room. He said MRI showed "nothing. Everything was good." Obviously sore but is hopeful he can get back on the practice field by end of the week. HC Doug Pederson will speak at 1:45 p.m. ET.

Well, that de-escalated rather quickly. Great news.

Oh, snap. I missed the last post on the last page. The Jags beat guy interviewed him and Thomas said it showed nothing. Now I get where you were getting your info from.

Carry on.

That was speculation before the MRI results, if I'm understanding it correctly.

Yeah, I just saw an update that MRI results were clear and they’re calling it bruised ribs, unlikely to miss time.

Weird.

Fowler’s report was always sort of speculative and suspect. The second opinion part sounded ominous, but that could have been that they were treating him with kid gloves.

One thing to think about is that they’re going to treat him with kid gloves because right now he and Lawrence are the franchise. So fantasy players should remember both the rookie wall and the usage issues that go along with being the franchise when your team is 2-6. Ain’t nowhere meaningful to go but to get hurt. If they suffer a loss or two, be prepared for a bit of a ramping down of the touches like the bubble screens and jet sweeps he’s getting (I hate both of those, so good riddance anyway).

Fowler is a bit useless. Never has any real breaking news.

I’ve complained about this for years. “Better to be 1st than right” journalism.

I hate it. I immediately lose all respect for anyone who engages in it. It’s one thing for a bunch of nerds on a FF forum to do it, but to be in the bidness of “news” and do it is irresponsible.

Feels like the Michael Pittman scenario from a few weeks ago. News broke he's out for 6-8 weeks and then within a day he's ready to go for the current week. Played and was his mediocre self.

Noticing sports reporting is about as reliable as real news reporting lately.
Oh yeah - “he’s going on the IR!”
Next day “he’s practicing in full, lolz”

So he has a sore chest and probably landed on ball awkwardly when scoring. Nothing to see here. He'll be back in the line up this week.

He could get 20 targets. It's him, Engram, or bust.

I would honestly not hate it if they just ruled him out for the Philly game as a precaution, and used it as an opportunity to see exactly what they have deeper in the WR position. With Kirk out I assume they bracket Engram, experiment a bit, don't risk your key man for the next few years, and work out who you actually do want lining up out wide for the back nine of the season

The dude has been awesome on an indifferent team. I have multiple shares in dynasty and by August was taking him at 1.6/1.7 range when I could.

Woke up this morning to see that ESPN had dropped his projection to 0.

Haven't seen any new news.

What do they know that we don't?

So this guy lives in the end zone, huh? Just saw a highlight package. Has great acceleration from a dead stop. That's what jumped out at me. Will be interested in combine times.

He was making some catches that were pro catches. Like aerials with both feet in bounds. Even took a pass/jet sweep to the house from about ten.

Good stuff.

Who is this guy? Hire him to do your rookie draft!

Limited 2 days in a row which is actually a good sign he should play. If he was DNP, that would be bad.

I first noticed this maybe 40 years ago. Has always been this way. The obsession with being "1st to break the news" is a detriment to their profession, whether it is the sports desk or the politics desk. Metro whatever.

IMHO a lot of sports reporters are really kind of meat heads and don't have a lot to offer besides crappy analysis. None of them could hack it as coach or a player even if they had the athleticism. They largely know very little about Xs and Os.

Absolutely nobody outside of journalism gives a crap about who broke what. But for them they'll rob their mother to run with a BS lead.

In this matter, I am speculating that initially it made sense to fear ribs, which would legit come with that 2-4 week range, and so it would be fine to report that as an initial possibility. But by being "1st to the story", we are at a place where every other outlet repeated it and we all have such crappy attention spans that all we FF folks are really cleaning out of it is "2-4 weeks" instead of the important part which is it's just a initial assessment.

It even said they're going to get an MRI. It isn't a second opinion it's a second step in the process.

TLDR reporters are obsessed with one upping each other and their profession sucks. It did used to be better but has always been problematic. Sports reporters have always been worse though.

Pederson says he will be a game time decision. Leads you to believe he's not 100% but will probably play because they don't have really anything else.

Not good. It's a 4 PM game so unless you have a plan B or P. Washington could be trouble.

Right now I only have 1 PM replacements and no room for Washington. Grrrr. Will hope for a Shefty "expected to play" 4 AM Sunday morning.

This is why we have a weekly contingency thread that you can post a substitution as long as neither player’s game has started. I don’t know why more leagues don’t do this.

Because it is kind of a pain and not fully automated so it takes extra work. But it is still a decent idea.

As a commish in many leagues I can tell you it isn't a pain. It is simply insert the contingency player into the lineup after both player's game has ended. It's not much work at all.

Don't see him playing, nor do see any value in starting him in fantasy at far less than 100%.

The Eagles are no joke these days on defense as they are rapidly improving along with their offense that is not turning the ball over as much. This game is a mismatch for JAX, unfortunately.

I don't even want to start T LAW in Super flex if I can avoid it.

i bet he plays and the Philly secondary is average at best. Not sure if Slay is out this week.
