WR Brian Thomas Jr., JAX (1 Viewer)

Thoughts?

Don’t hate the game or the player.

He’s awesome. I don’t think Trevor Lawrence was getting enough time today to let his routes develop. Might be something to look at in the future. But Thomas converted a nice third and fourteen with a fake stutter and go that turned into an out.

Great route.

Not very optimistic on the rest of the season unless Lawrence can get back on the field.

This week (MN) a decent matchup, but doubt Mac Jones can take advantage. After this week:

Bye week, HOU, @TN, NYJ.

Not good.

May try and bail out. No doubt selling low, but I have a feeling we're going lower.

For example, who would you rather have ROS? B. Thomas or C. Ridley?

Do you really think the Ridley owner is giving him up for Thomas? You'd have to find someone who hasn't been watching the Jags or Mac Jones to get anywhere that value for Thomas right now. I tend to agree Thomas' value might go lower, but I also don't think you can get much for him right now in redraft. Best to just hold and hope for the best. The injury has to be impacting his play as well, so hopefully that improves. Maybe put him on your bench until Jones proves he can pull his head out of his *** and Thomas looks healthy?

Amazing how 2-3 weeks ago a B. Thomas owner would have laughed at a Ridley for Thomas swap.

Surprisingly, most of the trade value charts have these two relatively equal. May give it a shot by adding a sweetener.

In dynasty I would rather have Thomas and it isn't close.

Optimism Lawrence is back after the bye but who knows where their heads will be at after they lose this week.

Question: Who would you rather have...BTJ...or...J. Meyers?

Never thought I'd ask that question three weeks ago.

Fair warning that there is a lot of chatter here in Duuuval about shutting Trevor down. The season's lost and there will be a full coaching and front office turnover.

Why play him? Let him get the surgery and be healthy for the new incoming regime and another Top 5 draft pick.

If he doesn't play in the Houston game coming out of the bye, he's most likely done for the year IMO

Do you think Mac has shown any ability to get the ball to BTJ?

I know you asked the Jags fan, but from what I saw, no. It’s only been a game, but he didn’t even have a catch until about two minutes left, if I’m not mistaken. I don’t think he was even targeted, though I watch quad boxes so I can’t follow every single play.

Mac’s yds per attempt have declined every year he has been in the league, with this season being less than half of his rookie year YPA. That’s probably not going to turn around in short order

Look for them to try and get Thomas involved early this week. Screens, end arounds, etc. Remember, he’s a rookie who’s not used to not being in involved in the game plan from the jump. That’s not the easiest thing to adapt to

I hope you're right. I can't stomach another week of seeing him used as a decoy when he's the best weapon they have.

So if Jags go with Hunter #1 overall how does that impact Thomas for dynasty
If they end up at #1 I think they would trade back or, gulp, take a QB and sit on him for a year and see how Trev pans out. A-Penixitis if you will.

That team needs a lot of help, and I don't think Hunter gives them better assistance than trade value of the pick and grabbing a possession receiver in rounds 2 or 3 .

If Jags get #1, 100% they trade back. It's not a great draft for QBs but they should still get a haul. They need Oline and Dline badly. Secondary would be next. Hunter can talk about playing CB in the NFL but I think he'll be scouted as a WR.

I can't see them taking a QB...Lawrence has not been what everyone expected but he is still only 25 and just signed a monster contract...also, there is not one of those pre-draft "generational" QBs coming out this year...they need to surround him with as much talent as possible and hope he turns into what they thought he would be a few years ago...a trade back probably makes the most sense, especially in this year's draft.

He's a true lockdown DB, I feel like teams will be more interested in that aspect of his game in today's NFL. He has the talent to do anything on the field, but I believe he'll be on the field 100% of the time as a DB and have more plays on the other side of the ball that we've seen from a defender. Maybe 30-40% of the snaps. He's just an unbelievable player and athlete. It's really hard to say what an NFL team will do with a player who has the ability of Hunter that we've never really seen in the modern era. I just hope he ends up in a good situation. Jags are not that unless Belichick or Ben Johnson ends up there.

I’d think he’s a corner with maybe 10% reps at receiver. The reverse wouldn’t work imo. 1996 Deion sanders type as a realistic ceiling.

He's got much more potential at WR than Deion ever did IMO. Deion was limited as a WR and never really honed his route running techniques, he was a gadget guy like Devin Hester playing WR, but Hunter gets better with each game. He's still learning the position at a high level and he's one of the most intelligent players in college football. I have no doubt he could be a successful NFL WR, but I think the shutdown corner is more important to an NFL team. He will get significant snaps on both sides of the ball, but what it comes down to is how much his body can hold up to against the fastest, strongest, massive human beings playing the sport at the highest level.

Agreed with all that. I’m just talking stats, 40/500 seems within reach when he’s focusing on corner.

Jones was in chuck it mode and Thomas wound up with 18.70 PPR points for the day. Not bad at all.

Parker Washington and Thomas did well for themselves with Mac in the game.

I have been saying this even before season but this guy is the second coming of Josh Gordon. They even both have two first names!

For those of you who want to relive the Josh Gordon era with more years, this is your opportunity. Those highlights above are quintessential prime Josh Gordon. If anyone has 15+ touchdown upside next year, it is Brian Thomas Jr.
