WR Cedric Tillman, CLE (1 Viewer)

I like him a lot just not sure where or how he fits in 2023 on the Browns or on my FF rosters.

I'm a 'gut drafter' to some degree, and my gut is unsettled about Watson at this time. The buzz about Tillman serves to reassure me that the Browns have surrounded Watson with many capable weapons and promising depth, that I'm feeling more optimistic that he'll resemble 2020 Watson more than 2022 Watson, at least in terms of the things he has no control over. Stefanski/solid offensive scheme/play calling (check, IMHO, at least), O-Line (check), surrounding skill-position cast (check), Watson himself delivering (?).

I'm trying hard not to spend the capital required to have a premium QB (usual suspects Hurts, Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, Burrow) on any Rosters across many Leagues. I'd very much like to add Watson, with confidence, to the second tier of stand-alone qb's (Herbert, Fields, Lawrence). Up until now, I've found myself optioning out of Watson and into a semi-premium platoon group (Smith, Cousins, Dak, Rodgers). Jury still out for me on Jones, Tua, Richardson, Wilson, Goff...but I digress.

For what it's worth.

My gut says that Watson is going to approach his 2020 form. Watson has looked great so far in camp. We'll see how it goes in his first pre-season game, but all signs pointing up for Watson this year.

Tillman is still looking at 4th WR at best. Their top 3 have also looked good so far this camp.

Everything has been positive about him this off-season, I am just not sure where he fits in the offense. A lot of targets to spread around to Cooper, Moore, Njoku, DPJ… I like the talent, but seems congestive.

I view him as a Cooper handcuff but otherwise my only interest in him is as a hold for next season. DPJ's contract is up and they save an enormous amount of cap money cutting or trading Amari. It may be congested now, but the path is clear for him if he's up to it.

DPJ gone mean more Cedric?
DPJ led all Browns WRs in snaps but only had 18 targets total in 7 games. Not a very fantasy friendly role if so. Tillman does seem like the immediate successor though so he's worth keeping an eye on to see how they use him.
Probably right, although if dynasty better to be early than late. I assume Cooper is not back and if Tillman can make good on his opportunities there might be some value there going forward.

Thoughts on him now?
I think he has some upside. But Jeudy seems like a similar wr to me. The fact they went and got him I’m not sure that’s a good sign for Tillman. I would hate to have to guess to depth chart right now. He’s a hold for me now and I surely regret passing on that second round offer I got early last year

I'd like to see him at TE. He's got size & body control.
He weighs 215lbs. He'd have to gain at least 20lbs to play the position effectively, probably a lot more given the lack of technique he'd need to compensate for. That's not really doable without notably compromising on speed and ability.

Doesn't seem worth the effort

“Cedric Tillman won the offensive MVP this spring.

‘I’ll just say I’m so happy with Ced’s development and he really took advantage,’ O’Shea said.

‘He was in this building nonstop, he didn’t miss a day. He worked so hard. And I can’t say enough about the job he did.’ ”

Cleveland Browns 2023 Round 3 WR Cedric Tillman was productive when on the field this preseason:

- 30.4% target share
- 43.9% air yardage share
- caught 5 of 7 targets for 55 yards (2.12 YPRR)

Tillman started both games and had a 100% route participation with starter Jameis Winston on the field.

Elijah Moore only played in one of those games. Moore also had a 100% route participation with Winston in the game he suited up.

I included every Tillman preseason target for you:

Wondering if Tillman is going to see some more opportunities without Cooper. Cooper wasn't exactly lighting it up, so probably not a good chance. He's on the waiver wire, and I'm to decide if he's worth a stash(dynasty). Anyone know if he'll be a starter now?

I wouldn’t waste my time on him for a couple of reasons. One being he hasn’t shown anything with limited action and the other is that it is the Browns. I’m sure there are better dart throws.

I think he is.

He's been looking like he went from a kid to a professional this year. Obvious pride in blocking and routes- a sharpness and "doing my job" focus about em'. Hard to word. He just catches my eye.

I picked him up in deep leagues.

I did like him in college and expected he and Hyatt to be better pros that became negative but I'm back up on Tillman

I liked Tillman as a prospect last year. Still kind of do. Opportunity has opened up. Situation is horrendous though, and won't get any better until either Watson is gone or Watson remembers how to play football again. Hopefully Tillman shows something this season because it's not hard to see the Browns bringing in another WR next offseason to fill the Cooper vacancy if he doesn't.

Tillman has had limited opportunities. He's free, and Cleveland doesn't have an alpha. You absolutely spend time picking these types up because there's zero downside and possible upside if he flashes enough.

Tillman 12 targets —> 8 rec for 81 yards

I thought Jameis Winston was out??
Box score shows he was 5 of 11 for 67 &1 TD. :ponder:

Didn't watch but he did well and Jeudy didn't. Good for him.
Idk if that matters but they're filling the void of Cooper's absence and he could have staked a claim to some targets today

Today's stat line is great for someone who was free in dynasty and is still free in redraft leagues. It's nice to know Tillman has this type of volume upside. Tillman isn't someone I'd want to count on, but you could do worse in your last flex spot this time of year.

I checked out late, but he played poorly and was the cause of an int while the game was still in doubt. Volume is king in our game and he'll carry value now that Watson is toast, but if he's just depth for you I strongly recommend shopping.

Cedric Tillman stepped into a starting role in Week 7 with Amari Cooper traded.

18.1 fantasy points
25% target share (12)
39% air yards (led team)

Tillman moves into boom-bust WR4 territory if Winston is the starter moving forward. Available in most leagues.

Took a flier on him - got him for free

13 targets last week was enough for him to take Godwin’s roster spot.

Won’t start him this week but for free, why not?

FWIW in FantasyPros rest of season rankings for WRs (PPR), Jeudy is still a bit ahead of Tillman (#54 versus #66). That is probably due to the expectation that Jeudy will be the "next man up" and that Tillman's week was a one off, but we'll see going forward.

Don't waste your time.Jeudy is the pivot. Proof

Jeudy isn't free. And JJ isn't good at football. I'd be selling all my JJ shares to you and others the moment he pops off.

Tillman is a longshot, and the odds are against him. But he's got an opportunity to shine and is free. Free bets are the best types of bets. There's no downside and only upside.
Jeudy is a cry baby but feed him and hopefully he can find that old mojo. I know he is a headcase.
