WR Chris Godwin, TB (2 Viewers)

He's going back to the slot, where he's feasted in the past.

New OC, Liam Coen, was the Kentucky OC in 2021 when Wandale Robinson went nuts from the slot. I think Godwin is going to see a lot more usage in 2024.

He's only 28 years old. I don't have any reason to think he's already lost a step at 28.

He'll be a nice value this season.
I feel like he's absolutely lost a step, not because of age, but because of repeated lower body injuries. Despite being younger, I think physically, his body is older than Evans. That doesn't mean he won't outproduce his ADP, but I think his top-15 upside is gone. I got him as my WR5 in a draft (10-team) last weekend and feel fine about it.
He’s a couple years removed from the ACL/MCL injury. I think you’ll be more than happy with him and he’ll be in your lineup most weeks.

He’s due for a big year.

This. Always been a fan of Godwin. I read the slot talk and don't necessarily agree with some of this huge season talk. I think with the miles he has on his body he has settled into what he is. A super safe 86 catch 1100 yard guy. Once again solid. He has 34 career tds in 7 season. Just don't see this move to slot giving him this league winning TD boost. Maybe 7? Maybe. On the clock, I took Jaxon Smith-Njigba over him just based on upside. All my opinion of course

I'm inclined to agree with this take.

I like Godwin, but he feels firmly rooted in a WR3 type ceiling, especially with the buzz around McMillan.

He had a fantastic year when he was in the slot earlier in his career. However, that was with Jameis Winston throwing for 5100 yards. So even though I'm excited for him, I don't know how much better he could do than 90/1200/10. Which, yes, that would be very nice to see. But probably not a "monster" season.

Only 12 guys broke 1,200 yards last year. TB has too many weapons for him to be a monster, but 1,200 and 10 would be a pretty incredible year.

I don't consider "too many weapons" to be an issue for Godwin. Evans is a target hog, but that's about it.

Godwin has averaged 133 targets the past 3 years. Pretty sure getting targeted won’t be an issue. Evans was at 126.

Is it just me or is this guy one of the more disrespected/underrated WR's out there? I really feel like he could have a big year this year in particular, as he is supposed to return to the slot. I don't know what his split is in years playing primarily slot vs primarily wide ... not sure where to find that, either. But his best year was earlier in his career, so that was probably a slot year.
A little early in the year for a victory lap, but I don't get these often, so I'm cashing in 🏎️

I still believe in the talent, which makes him an easy hold based on current value. With that said, I'm struggling to find any optimism for 2024. What's going to change?

I get that the production was okay, and I'd probably appreciate it more if I could start 4 WRs, but he was nothing more than bench depth in a start 3. I feel like his outlook would be in a better place right now if Mayfield's '23 season was the disaster I anticipated. There's not a player on my dynasty team that I'm rooting for a trade more than Godwin.
Yeah, I guess a WR1, though plausible, is a pipedream. But I think WR2 would only be a little surprising.

As far as what's going to change, he's supposed to go back to slot. I don't know but I hope that can be a good thing for him.

From early February...
https://www.buccaneers.com/news/liam-coen-envisions-chris-godwin-having-big-role-slot-2024

"You've got a guy [in Mike Evans] that's 6-4 and change, 220, and can move like he does," he said on Tuesday after being introduced to the local media. "Then you've got a guy like Chris that I think can be really dynamic on the inside. That's where I envision him playing, is more on the inside, playing that 'F' position that ultimately Cooper played. A lot of things do run through that. So I'm excited about him."
This was the hit article I read in offseason that sealed the deal, I looked at Godwin and Devonta Smith since I heard they each were playing the Cooper Cupp role. Choo Choo, it is very real!

*I'm sure there is a bunch of comps to Kupp's role, but they all can't hit.

Good work here calling this one by several posters. A real sight for sore eyes through two weeks. The talent was too good relative to his value to ever consider trading him. However, If this keeps up there will be some temptation to see what he might fetch on a CMC team going nowhere.

Also, I owe Mayfield an apology. Looks like he has become comfortable and taken another step this season.

He was still out there in a 8 man keeper dynasty league. I read the above info from eighsse2 about a week or so before our draft. So ac few days after our draft he was still there! Picked him up and so far awesome results. Thank you my friend 🧡 lol

Just don't read anything I say about D'Andre Swift 👍

Next Gen Stats
Chris Godwin gained 105 of his 125 receiving yards after the catch across 11 receptions, his most YAC in a game since Week 8, 2021 (which also came against the Saints, 105 YAC).

Godwin currently leads the NFL in yards after catch this season (335).

How good is this guy? Really THE bright spot of my 2024 fantasy season, and one of the only things keeping my injured team alive in my main money redraft league. I have to pinch myself that I got him in the seventh round.

He's healthy Cooper Kupp if you squint honestly. I believe it is for real.

I traded him last week to get Josh Jacobs and its pretty even in my mind. I just needed RB bad.

Awful for him. Wishes for a speedy recovery for Gods and his family. Peace. Glad he got his bag. Too much use, especially in situations not designed for it. But that's not really for anything now but grousing. Wishing him the best.

I figured I'd wait a little longer before trying to get the most value from him. Best laid plans.

Poor guy could have been elite if not for his injuries. Wish him a speedy recovery.

On his way to an All Pro season. Just so mad he was in the game.
Everyone is defending Bowles on this now. Team still had a shot. Within 10. Already was successful with 1 onside kick. Do you just give up in that situation?
Agreed. I was watching the game and they were trying to score with a couple minutes left. You don’t just give up there. Sad thing is that it was just a freak accident that happens in a violent game.

I don’t know.
The coaching staff needs to take some blame for losing two great receivers in the same game. Theres no way Evans should have been in either, and he ended up really hurt. And everything that could have gone right for Tampa did and they still lost by 10. There was no way they were winning that game.

Not everybody is defending Todd Bowles. I think Smails is mistaken. I'm certainly not. I didn't buy the two onsides kicks rule thing, either. I was blaming him before that was even an inkling in the public's eye. Never should have had Godwin in there. I don't know about Evans.

I mean, you've gotta play the guys even if the game is out of hand at times, but not this time and not down by that and not already having lost Evans.

:kicksrock: looks like Ridley goes back into the lineup.
The bucs look too good this year to not trade for a WR now.

No timeouts down 10 with 40 seconds left. Baltimore win prob was 99.9. Yea you take a knee and go home. You spend the whole preseason benching guys, training camp is modified to not allow a ton of hitting so people don’t get hurt, these idiot coaches spend 19 hours a day in their office looking for an advantage and then you do this? It’s reckless and idiotic.

Who is his backup for picking up?
Jalen McMillan. Trey Palmer and Sterling Shepard will round out the WRs with Evans also down.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rachaad White in the slot some too.

Thanks

So inherently nothing worth picking up as there isn't a direct replacement per se
I don’t know that anyone will materialize with similar target share to Godwin. Imagine it’s just spread around to all of them.

McMillan/Shepard will be more consistent.
