WR Christian Watson, GB (1 Viewer)

He looks so good when he’s healthy.

Chances of him staying that way: ~40%?

I respect that he’s working on it though. IIRC we heard this before last year as well.
Same tune new season, but I see him as a good buy low right now. The GB offense is clicking and having Josh Jacobs as a run threat should open more lanes for top WR targets. But yeah GB has multiple WR targets (plus TEs) so volume might not be too high

Not quite to the same degree as this year. Sounds like there was a major discrepancy between the strength of his right and left leg. Now why was this not discovered last year? At least it is something specific he is correcting now. He is someone who I hope to have on my redraft team as long as the injury label continues to suppress his value.

I’m in at his current redraft ADP for sure. Even if it creeps up a little by the time I draft

Fun fact:

Despite the 2022 WR class looking like its gonna be really solid, through 2 years Christian Watson has the most TD catches from it. Not Drake London, not Garrett Wilson, not Chris Olave, not George Pickens, but Christian Watson. I just think that's kind of interesting with how much cheaper Watson is than any of them, especially considering Watson likely has the most stable long term QB situation.

Doubly interesting as Watson has done that despite missing 11 games. Not saying I'd take Watson over any of those guys, but its a reminder of what his upside can be.

@32BeatWriters
“Keeping Watson on the field is paramount for this group to reach its potential since he might be their biggest game breaker. He feels his faulty hamstring is in a good spot after an offseason visit to a Madison, Wis., specialist, so maybe Year 3 is the one we finally see in consistent stretches the brilliance we’ve seen from Watson in spurts over the last two seasons.”

I was thinking that with the finding that one of his hamstrings was less developed than the other which likely contributed to his constant hamstring pulls that he would finally get over the injury bug. Just doesn't seem like it's in the cards for him.

I know there are several mouths to feed in GB but if he is out for the year is there any particular beneficiary to his absence?

Ya'll jumping the gun. He got up and seemed fine.
Preseason jitters. You just want all your guys to make it through to the regular season but then it starts all over again and you just want them to make it to the playoffs.

For sure. When Rondale Moore went down today at first the tweets came out that "someone" was down and everyone looked concerned but because the players surrounded Rondale no one knew who was down. For a bit there I was pretty nervous about it being Drake, Pitts or Bijan.

I was actually just thinking to myself a few days ago how I forgot how much I hate this part of fantasy. I might prepare for it, but kind of forgot how much my life is altered sometimes waiting on or finding out fantasy related injury news.

Ya'll jumping the gun. He got up and seemed fine.
ha...sometimes we get too much info
Considering his history and way the first reports sounded was easy to jump to the worst thoughts.

Passing game coordinator Jason Vrable said they track receiver speeds in practice and Christian Watson has had multiple days where he’s hit the high 21 mph mark. “When you’re 21.9 in practice … that’s flying,” he said.

This guy should be carrying as much weight as a Jamo breakout. Don't be fooled by the JLove shell game. This is the Packers WR1.
He's a ways ahead of of Williams for me. Watson HAS been an NFL playmaker, Williams has been all hype. Watson could be the #1, Williams will be no higher than #3. Both are worth fliers as WR4s, but I'm feeling WAY better about Watson. Just a much higher ceiling.

Bold/hot take incoming; Watson is behind both Wicks and Doubs in snap count through the first half of the season, and is also behind Jayden Reed by the end of the season. Winding up 4th WR in snaps by end of year. He's winds up running 70% of his routes as the speedster "clear out" guy, has a few great games with stat lines that look like 4 for 110 and 2TD. But many more than you'd like that wind up of 3 for 60 and 0TD.

Not a steaming take here. All the WR’s in GB have better “WR traits” than Christian Watson. Even coming out of the draft I believe he was pegged as mostly a “project X” WR. Big, fast and can win deep - but struggles with routes and contested catches.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s relegated to a situational deep threat come mid-season.

Doubs, Reed, and Wicks are better all-around “WR’s”. None of them however have the field stretching aspect CW brings, imo

I agree. Doubs and Wicks are classic X WRs. I don’t think either are great but they in the mold of a big strong outside WR. Reed is the Deebo/Samuel/Amon Ra versatile type that is especially dangerous moving around the field. Watson seems destined to just be a stretch flanker.

Not a big fan but he is a "stretch flanker" who can take a crosser to the house. I'm invested in Doubs and Watson's potential is terrifying.

Glad to know I'm not alone. I'm just used to getting flamed if I post anything non-positive in individual player threads hah. I've never been a Watson fan since he was in college, so I feel like he's performed as expected the past two years, even with the injuries.

Is anyone else thinking of starting him week 1 as a WR/Flex? This could be the only time his hamstring is 100% LOL

Packers play @ the Eagles the o/u is 48.5.

I have the rookie Neighbors I could start in his first ever game and has Jones at QB not Love. Also I'm in a Non-PPR so TD's are huge.

Just wondering if anyone else is going to start Watson because he is healthy

I'm starting him in at least one league (PPR).

The Coachspeak Index
#Packers HC Matt LaFleur on Christian Watson:

“We all have seen how explosive and dynamic he is as a playmaker… He is an important part of what we do. He’s a big, physical, fast guy, and not many of those guys exist. So, we certainly are a better offense when he’s at full strength.”

does anyone know if he has been practicing since he got banged up August 8th, I haven’t seen anything. How healthy is he now?

Bill Huber
After two-injury plagued seasons, Christian Watson participated in every practice for the #Packers. So, a player with just one career game of 40-plus yards in the first two months of the season should be ready to hit the ground running on Friday. ⬇️

Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT
Anticipating Christian Watson to play 13+ games this season and operating as GB’s best explosive play/downfield threat. High ppr upside per touch, should pay off at ADP despite the GB “committee” approach

Peter Bukowski
I think Christian Watson can have a 2011 Jordy Nelson season this year.

Leads the team in yards but never truly felt like the WR1 on a loaded receiver room. Greg Jennings got more targets, Jermichael Finley was a huge part of the offense, but Nelson was the big play guy.

Chris O’Brien
Christian Watson (vs. PHI)

The Eagles secondary allowed the MOST points to WRs last season.

Watson was the WR1 for the Packers when on the field last season.

He also led the league in endzone targets/game last season.

This should be a high scoring game with an O/U of 48.5.

I think I’m starting him tonight and hoping for a TD… but also hoping he doesn’t leave the field with a pulled hammy on the first play.

Does anyone dare start this guy if Love is active @ the Titans?

I’m not starting him but he’s a buy low imo.

His value isn’t going to get any lower and he always has the ability to go 7-168-2 TDs.

He also has the ability to go 3-13.
Which you might say about every receiver on The Packers

I have Love and was scrolling through his game stats from last season.

Dude can support multiple receivers in a given week.
