I was wondering. They really needed another WR. Maybe this year the Lions might hold off until the 2nd round for their soon-to-be-star WR.

:wall:

Don't like this one at all. This is the best we can do? Corey freaking Bradford? Ugh. All speed, not much else. But, hey, we like former Packer WR that Favre couldn't stand. Maybe he'll work out as well as Bill Schroeder.

Of all the Lions needs, I would think they'd be concentrating on a hard nosed, tough guard.. a pass rusher.. someone who can actually tackle that wears a number in the 50s or a safety who can cover and provide run support.

But what do I know.

You carry 4-5 wrs on a roster. Why does this move suggest someone is being shipped out?

He's a depth guy. A contributor.

The salary is a decent bargain.

Solid signing.

Then what happens to Scottie Vines? At times last year I thought he was the Lions' best WR.

If you've already got Roy, Rogers, BMW and Vines. You pay a $2m bonus to your 4th or 5th WR? Those are special teams/cheap-and-young guy positions. (Although with Martz there, maybe a speed WR has some potential value)

I wouldnt be surprised if Rogers isnt a Lion this year and Bradford becomes #2 or #3.

Don't they still have Kevin Johnson as well?Roy Williams

Mike Williams

Charles Rogers

Kevin Johnson

Scotty Vines

Corey Bradford

If they don't make a trade this signing doesn't make much sense. $2 M signing bonus for a medicore at best WR isn't that great of a deal either.

Good preemptive signing if they thought Walker and the Packers are truely at an impasse. Why not keep him away from a division rival where he has a comfort level with Favre?

I do not think Favre ever really liked this kid.Nothing that great about this...he is an average at best WR...many seem to think Rogers is gone though...

Good job Detroit.

Texan fans are rejoicing now that there's no possiblity of him re-signing with Houston.

Dude is the scrub of scrubs.

Kevin Johnson ruptured his achilles last year and rehab apparently isn't going well....he may be done period - but he's definately done as a Lion. Drummond is probably going to be gone too, so this is speed guy with some experience to add some depth. It's chic to make fun of Lions and their WRs, but this is a solid signing for depth, esp. with Martz at the helm now. Who would you rather have filling in? Bradford or Glenn Martinez?

With the Re-signing of Shaun Bryson and the FA signing of Corey Bradford the Lions have now addressed, what, ZERO of thier needs. Fantastic work staying under the radar, Matt!! Don't mind that Minnesota has clearly passed you by and the Pack are on their way there. All you need is a solid coaching staff.

Have to agree here, Millen is just pathetic and I hope they dont just try and rely on the draft to address their needs. If they dont sign some type of offensive line help they will be burrying Harrington again in Detroit. Give the receivers some time to get open damnit.clock is ticking...

Can't wait for Millen to draft Chad jackson/Holmes at 1.09

Until you remembered your #2 wr is now Jabar Gaffney :lmao:
actually he is a UFA, so actually he isn't officially on the team. Our WR2 is Derrick Armstrong right now. Bradford is worthless. Good luck. He couldn't make a team with no wr2

Who do you see as their #2 WR this year...Armstrong or Mathis?

Or will they add someone else as their #2?
Mathis is a BILLION miles away from being a WR2. He isn't even ready for wr3. Armstrong isn't real fast but has good hands. I think next year its going to be AJ, with Bush getting the second most targets. We will probably bring in some lower tier level FA who would be Bradfordesque in terms of ability at wr2 as my guess right now.

Lions | Team retains Drummond

Mon, 13 Mar 2006 17:26:28 -0800

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Detroit Lions have re-signed WR/KR Eddie Drummond to a five-year, $6 million contract which included a $2 million signing bonus. It is believed the contract makes Drummond the NFL's highest paid return specialist.

:goodposting: Texans are trying to bring in a fa reciever. They gave Givens a go but think he is asking for too much(5 years 25 mill).

They were interested in Bruce.

They signed Kevin Walter, but the Bengals will probably match that.

The texans are trying to bring in a vet wr, which is the right move I think, but even an undrafted rook would be a better option than bringing back Bradford, imo.

Wasn't terribly impressed with Gaffney either, though I have a much higher opinion of him than Bradford.

Hopefully they cut Charles Rogers so he can sign on and contribute elsewhere.
Rogers is only making $700 k this year. There's no way they cut that kind of bargain.
That's a good point, and as a Rogers dynasty owner, one I'd like to forget. ;) Still, a trade doesn't seem unrealistic. Too bad the team with a QB on the market is in the North. Maybe they can get a 4th round pick for him.

I thought Bradford sucked? You're sitting here badmouthing Bradford when the overall wr corps of the Texans absolutely sucks monkey balls right now. Zero depth. Just dreadfully horrid. Reminds me a guy driving a rusty Pinto badmouthing a Ford Taurus.

Drummond is a kick returner--maybe you remember him being voted to the pro bowl in 2004. Yeah, that Eddie Drummond.

He does blow, and I kinda implied that our wr's are dreadful (the comment - He couldn't make a team with no wr2 is a good hint). Perhaps I should have used smaller words.

Don't forget about Kevin Johnson. Stupid move IMO. They have a few other areas of concern to worry about other than another WR. Millen is getting as bad as Skeletor having to draft or sign a rb every year. At least Skeletor is getting production out of his guys though.

At first I thought this was ridiculous. Then I remembered Bradford is a complete speed guy, Martz has said Harrington has a strong arm and they intend to have nothing resembling the WCO. Sure they overpaid but with how much money every team has, all the FA's are going to get a bit exta. I change my initial opinion and now dub this a solid move.

Lions Sign Free Agent WR Corey Bradford to a Four-Year Deal

March 13, 2006

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- The Detroit Lions announced today that they signed WR Corey Bradford to a four-year deal. Additional contract terms were not disclosed.

Bradford joins the Lions after spending the past four seasons with Houston where he was coached by current Detroit wide receivers coach Kippy Brown. Bradford played in all 16 games (six starts) for the Texans last season and registered 34 receptions for 436 yards (12.8 avg) and five touchdowns.

In 2002, his first season with the then-expansion Houston Texans, Bradford set career-highs with 45 receptions, 697 receiving yards and six touchdown receptions while starting all 16 games in their inaugural season.

Through eight pro seasons, Bradford has garnered 201 receptions for 3,182 yards (15.8 avg) and 25 touchdowns while playing 105 games with 48 starts. He was originally drafted by Green Bay in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft.

Bradford only played one season of college football at Jackson State after transferring from Hinds (MS) Community College where he had a track scholarship (1994-95). He played and started in all 11 games during his lone season for the Tigers and finished with 48 receptions for 937 yards (19.5 avg) and nine touchdowns – four of which were for 50 yards or more. Bradford was an All-Southwestern Conference selection and was named SWAC Newcomer of the Year as a senior in 1997.
