WR Courtland Sutton, DEN (1 Viewer)

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton could have a "significant knee injury," and will undergo an MRI.

Denver's season could be circling the drain after losing Drew Lock to a shoulder injury in Week 2 against Pittsburgh. Sutton came into Week 2 with a shoulder injury and left with the knee ailment (and cramping). On Sunday, Jerry Jeudy looked to be the beneficiary of Sutton being off the field for the Broncos. QB Jeff Driskel targeted Jeudy seven times against the Steelers. Jeudy and Noah Fant could be volume-based plays for the remainder of the season if Sutton is out for the year.

Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Serious injury feared

The Broncos fear that Sutton suffered a significant knee injury during Sunday's loss to the Steelers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Sutton will undergo an MRI to confirm the severity of his injury Monday, though Rapoport notes that the possibility of missing the entire season is currently in play. The third-year pro had also been dealing with a shoulder issue prior to injuring his knee Sunday. With Drew Lock (shoulder) also set for an MRI on his sprained AC joint, the Broncos could be forced to proceed with a deeply depleted aerial attack against the Buccaneers in Week 3.

9 News' Mike Klis reports Courtland Sutton "tore up his knee" and is out for the season.

The Broncos feared a major injury after Sutton left their Week 2 game against the Steelers. A season-ending injury for Sutton would open up a bunch of targets in the Denver offense. Jerry Jeudy becomes a must-start in 12-team leagues if Sutton is done for 2020.

Just awful news. I hated trading away Sutton in dynasty, as I'm very high on the kid. At least he did it early in the season, so he could be a nice sleeper for 2021. Still - crushing blow.

Broncos placed WR Courtland Sutton on injured reserve with a torn ACL, ending his season.

It is the inglorious, inevitable end to a third-year campaign that seemed cursed before Sutton even played a regular season snap. The soon-to-be 25-year-old missed Week 1 with a shoulder injury he suffered in practice before gutting through the ailment in Week 2 only to wreck his knee. Sutton had previously never missed a game. His absence will make things that much more difficult for long-shot franchise QB Drew Lock once the sophomore quarterback returns from a shoulder injury of his own. Although he is old for a third-year pro, 2021 contract-year Sutton will still be a no-brainer candidate for an extension next summer, perhaps at a discount coming off his knee ailment.

Courtland Sutton (ACL) has resumed jogging.

Sutton's return came two weeks ago. We have heard very little on Sutton's recovery since he went down in September, but that's not a bad thing. He appears to be on pace in his rehab. He has an excellent chance at being ready for training camp. Even with their influx of young talent as pass catcher, the Broncos badly missed Sutton in 2020, never developing a reliable No. 1 option in his absence. The 25-year-old is headed into the final year of his rookie deal. With the Broncos' quarterback and skill corps situations uncertain, Sutton should be considered a risk/reward WR3 in spring drafts.

Broncos general manager George Paton said Courtland Sutton is running pass routes.

Seven months removed from a season-ending ACL tear, Sutton has resumed route running. It was reported in late January that Sutton had started jogging in his recovery. The standout receiver looks to be on pace to return from Broncos training camp this summer. He could be an overlooked fantasy player, even with the erratic Drew Lock under center for Denver.

Anyone trade for Sutton in Dyno (post injury)? If so, what did you pay?
Doesn't sound like too many people did. I *sold* one share of him inseason for a TE in FFPC in a win now move that worked out for me. But it was Sutton for Gronk and two 2021 4ths. Not something anyone would likely do if they weren't inseason. I just took over an orphan that has Sutton and just don't know what to think. So many questions with him and with the other Bronco receivers. And at QB. If someone bothers to send me an offer I'll be trying to sell but otherwise I'm just holding. I know your question was in October but I'm just jumping in here anyway.

I shopped him in 1 league I'm very rich at WR and wanting to improve at RB...the value just isn't there right now. QB situation can't be helping either...definitely a hold

I just received an offer of my 2.09 & 3.09 for Sutton. This was his counter to my 3.09 for Sutton (I was gauging value & would have bought if cheap)

What does everyone think of what he wants for him? WR is not a need for me & this is PPR

A year earlier you would have had to pay a first. I gladly would pay a late 2nd and a 3rd to see if he can regain that value.

Personally, I think that's a steal for Sutton.

You should have broken your phone and your finger accepting that.

COURTLAND SUTTON WR, DENVER BRONCOS

Broncos GM George Paton said the team will address the contracts of Courtland Sutton and Bradley Chubb after the draft.

“They’re two of our core guys, and we want them here a long time,” Paton said. “We’re strictly focused on the draft, but those are two of our guys.” A 2018 first-round pick, Chubb's fifth-year option is a lock to get picked up, guaranteeing him $12.7 million in 2022. Sutton's deal is the tougher call coming off season-ending knee surgery.  The Broncos may make Sutton prove his health before they extend or franchise him next offseason.

One thing we take for granted in the modern era is that we think it is guaranteed a player recovers 100% from an ACL injury.  That isn't always the case.  Sure, they come back, but are they the same player?

Broncos HC Vic Fangio said Courtland Sutton (torn ACL) is doing terrific in rehab.

Sutton tore his ACL in Week 2 and began running routes in March. He should have no problem recovering to full health by training camp if he continues progressing at this pace. Sutton will return to a team with Teddy Bridgewater under center and Jerry Jeudy playing receiver. The added competition for targets with a minimal upgrade at quarterback could cap his ceiling in the WR2 territory.

Speaking Monday, Courtland Sutton said the "game plan" is to be ready for training camp.

Sutton missed Week 1 of last season with a shoulder issue and promptly tore his ACL in Week 2, ending his ruined year with three catches for 66 yards on 31 snaps. The start of training camp would put Sutton roughly 10 months out from the injury, more than enough time in today's day and age of medicine for him to be ready. He began running pass routes back in March and has had a seamless rehab by all accounts. Sutton still has Drew Lock and/or Teddy Bridgewater as his quarterback, however; a trade for Aaron Rodgers would be welcomed.

I was a fan of Sutton pre-injury...tagged him as a future #1 WR in keeper/dynasty....with the injury and QB problems I am viewing him as more of a #3 WR with upside but if A-Rod manages to go to Denver he could vault up the rankings pretty quick if the knee is sound

Broncos coach Vic Fangio said WR Courtland Sutton won't start training camp on the active/PUP list.

This comes as great news for Sutton, who appears to be making a flawless recovery from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 2 of the 2020 season. All previous reports have also indicated that he would be ready for training camp. Sutton broke out with 1,112 yards in 2019 while also earning his first Pro Bowl nod. He could return to an offense helmed by Teddy Bridgewater which will be a notable upgrade over Drew Lock. While not exactly an exciting passer, Bridgewater propelled three receivers to top-25 fantasy seasons last year.

Courtland Sutton (ACL) has been cleared for the beginning of Broncos training camp, but his reps will be managed.

Both developments are as expected, as Sutton was expected to avoid the active/PUP list, but he was never going to be full go for the early weeks of camp. It keeps Sutton barreling toward being ready for Week 1 as he nears the 11-month anniversary of his injury. It will be close to a year by the time the season starts. Continuing to progress on schedule in his rehab, Sutton's bigger concern remains his quarterback play. Sutton is being drafted as a mid-range WR3 in the Broncos' crowded, volatile offense. That feels right.
