WR DeAndre Hopkins, BAL (1 Viewer)

This kids so good, he even made weeden look solid. The numbers he put up this season with hoyer mallett Yates and weeden as his qbs...unbelievable
Too bad they won't have a shot at hackenburg. I think that connection would have been sweet.

Texans fans I know there isn't much history with this but if Cincy holds off Denver tonight it means that the Texans clinch the division and have nothing to play for next week. (not realy sure why tonight's game has any bearing on the south division but whatever)

Anyway what is the likely hood that DeAndre sits week 17 if the division is wrapped up?

Rotoworld:

DeAndre Hopkins caught 7-of-12 targets for 89 yards in the Texans' Week 17 win over the Jaguars.

Hopkins finishes his third NFL season with 114 receptions for 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's firmly established as a top-five wideout. With both Cecil Shorts (hamstring) and Nate Washington (hip) battling injury, Hopkins could be forced to do even more heavy lifting than usual for the Wild Card round.

DeAndre Hopkins says he has "gained a bit of weight" this offseason, and "put on some muscle."
One of Hopkins' offseason priorities was to improve after the catch, and he's apparently determined bulking up is the best course of action. When Hopkins says "a bit of weight," it's probably in the 5-8 pound range, and nothing crazy. Whatever shape Hopkins reports to camp in, he'll be a top-seven fantasy option at receiver.

Brock Osweiler said DeAndre Hopkins is a "very unique wide receiver."
"With him, I don't know if there's really anything that's not catchable as long as you put it in bounds," Osweiler continued. "That's very comforting as a quarterback. He's always saying, 'Just throw it up, I'll go get it.'" Osweiler and Hopkins have spent a lot of extra time together this offseason to build chemistry, and both players seem to think the extra work has paid off. Hopkins' target total will almost certainly come down, but he is one of the top wideouts in the league playing with what might be the best quarterback of his career. The sky is the limit.

My top 5:

He's OK. All he'll ever be..

Mediocre size, mediocre speed, mediocre hands, mediocre ceiling.

ETA: Mediocre situation
F

Had a chance to get him in a couple rookie drafts and passed. Don't hate him, but he doesn't stack up with the NFL's elite physically. Just average speed and only a 9'7" broad jump. He has really good hands and he's a pretty good route runner, so I think he'll be a solid #2 or #1B target, but I don't know if he's got that extra something to become a #1. I never quite got the "wow" factor from his game cuts.
Put me in the camp that believes Hopkins landing spot was average the next few years. Short term seems like a great place to post low end WR2 type numbers, bad place to post WR1 type numbers. In term of size and speed I think his best comp is actually Hakeem Nicks. they are similar size, speed, similar vertical. The underrated huge positive trait they both possess is TE like arm length and hand size. Both have arm lengths in the mid 33.5 range and massive 10"+ hands. When you combine this with Hopkins basketball background and what I've seen on tape I see a strong big handed WR who knows how to get position. He seems like one of the safest picks of the rookie draft to me, certainly safer than any other WR I just don't put his upside on the same level as guys like Patterson and Austin.
From what I've seen of Hopkins, even in his highlights, he doesn't create separation. Recipe for underachieving relative to expectations. NFL corners are bigger and faster. When I watch him I think Sidney Rice. Only he's not as big or as fast.
Now to 2016, Hop has a legit quarterback with Osweiler and they started practicing in April in Arizona with another QB and all the receivers. The Texans also picked up Lamar MIller (speed catching RB) and drafted Fuller, Braxton Miller and Tyler Irving at RB.Also still have Cecil Shorts and Jaelen Stong who was good in limited action and is expected to make huge improvement this season. Their offensive line is better than at the start of last season and and Osweiler will be WAAAAY better than the ranking he has been given.

With the speed rookies, Lamar Miller at running back and Strong being in far better shape than last year I expect Hop to get fewer targets, receptions and yards (maybe) but more touchdowns. His job has gotten a lot easier but the Texans haven a lot of other offensive options on the field and only so many plays during a game. Haven't even mentioned Mumphrey cause I am not sure where he fits in this offense.

FF implications will be a little less for DHop overall, an increase for Lamar Miller who was not used correctly in Miami and especially Osweiler who has a much better (open) game plan with O'brien than Kubiak's, far more options available to him on offense than he did in Denver even considering they don't have an Owen Daniels at TE.

Dhop is elite and will stay elite but he will have a lot more competition catching passes. Houston will be an exciting offense this season because their personnel is just so much better than last year. IMHO

DeAndre Hopkins ran the most routes (651) in the league last season.
He also saw 31.6 percent of the available targets in Houston, the fourth-highest clip in the league. After running the most plays and throwing the ninth-most passes last season, the Texans went out and signed Lamar Miller in free agency and added receiver help with first-rounder Will Fuller and third-rounder Braxton Miller. With both the pace and pass percentage likely to decline and more weapons around him, Hopkins will certainly see a decline in his target totals, but he is still one of the most talented receivers in the league and a sure-fire WR1.

Hopkins is actually doing these guys a favor, no true blue chip FA WR's this year, Cobb signed a team friendly deal last year, Keenan Allen signed a team friendly deal this year.

If you are HOU why not lock this guy into a long term deal starting just above Allen with incentives added in to sweeten the deal. They have the perfect excuse to stretch a signing bonus over a LONG contract, which benefits HOU, because they just signed Watt, and Oz, and Miller. More teams should be looking to extend their probowl caliber WR's as the price will explode soon.

Some people say it's a bad signal to your team to extend a contract with two years left but I disagree. What better sign to give your young ascending players than if you out-play your contract we'll reward you with a long extension. It's not like many of these contracts have many guarantees anyway..... what does HOU really have to lose? They are pretty pot committed to this young nucleus anyway. The AFC is completely up for grabs.

Better qb.  Better running game.  Better stats for Hopkins.  I expect him to score about the same as last year

I was wondering what Hopkins owners or others think about the influence of these things on Hopkins' season:

2015 catch percentage - 57.8% - does this improve? Was it so low because of the QB follies last year?

The addition of Fuller & Braxton Miller - do his targets go down? See the catch percentage.

Lamar Miller - is this a receiving option to compete as well?

Osweiler - is he just a game manager? How's his accuracy?

he was doubled-up on pretty regularly last year. he's not a burner so that kind of scheme can be effective. the difference between this and last year is exactly what you are concerned about. A safety can't bracket him anymore because of Fuller and Braxton with space to roam. the playcalling will be different with a credible running game again. Osweiler doesn't have to be All-Pro to be effective especially when compared to the ham-and-egger that Hoyer was. i don't know that he's going to get more targets but he can be more efficient with what he gets. he's still in that top 5 for FPG for the position.

It feels like people are looking for any way they can to say this guy is going to regress.  He had #### at qb and surrounding cast last year and put up huge numbers

His team won't behind as much this year and his targets might go down with Fuller and Strong improving. I like Hopkins and he's my wr4 for good reason, but I don't think people's reservations are without merit.

Texans with new QB scare me, but sitting at 8th pick it looks like both Hopkins and Miller could be there. Which do you go with?

Ha, thanks, I didn't want to post their content outright. :topcat: Embarrassed but I'll get over it.
Heh, no problem, it was just deja-vu from reading it 30 minutes earlier.

I'm not worried about him, there's plenty of history showing that bad teams with sub-par QBs can still produce top fantasy WRs. Without looking up stats, it almost feels like an ideal situation because better teams seem to spread the ball around more.

For those of you worried about Fuller taking away targets and catches from Hopkins:

DeAndre Hopkins Through Two Weeks

2015: 13-152-2 TDs (24 targets)
2016: 12-167-2 TDs (19 targets)#Texans

Agreed. This dude can ball... brock isnt elite "yet" but like u said.. dude was balling with a minor league high A ball guy throwing it. It can only get better

Got in a debate week ago that id still take b hop over odb.. sticking to it even with fuller. More open windows for big plays IMO and that's what its about right? Targets are great but rather have potential big play down field than an extra target or 2.

For those that didn't see the game, Hopkins had a 2nd TD catch ruled out of bounds that was just amazing. DB tripped him & as he was going down he extended, catching the pass & dragging his knees inbounds before he landed on his arms out of bounds. Looked like a catch to me & announcers agreed that if it had been ruled a TD it probably wouldn't have been overturned. The guy just makes amazing plays.

Yes. I saw this live (tv) and was in awe an then shock at outcome.

Dudes going to be all pro this year. Book it. Texans are winning that division.

Disclaimer: cowboys fan but am all over this teams offensive potential. Once they find out how to utilize braxton miller skys the limit.. obv osweiler is going have deliver but even him being avg can be ok with bhop/fuller being able to do what tbey do.

There's no player I can't shut down.  My record is unblemished.  I'll check in more often to inform people who I draft.

AJ and DeAndre were sitting there. I rolled the dice on DeAndre. Still a long season, but AJ was the safer choice in hindsight.
