WR DeAndre Hopkins, BAL (1 Viewer)

Anyone rolling him out today? With Higgins out it’s either him or McMillan. Leaning McMillan.
Devil's advocate here. Why are you leaning McMillan? Because he has been with Baker longer than Hopkins has been with Mahomes? If my options are a rookie with 6 career catches from his QB vs a surefire HOF'er with no catches from his QB, I'm leaning the HOF'er.

McMillan is likely assuming the Godwin role and got 8 targets last week. Not much competition for targets in a game where they’re most likely going to have to keep up with Atlanta. KC is playing a Vegas team that has had a carousel at QB and are without any real offensive threats. Not sure how much they are going to have to pass today. Just my initial thoughts on the decision.

6 for 6 for 67 yards and a TD. Yeah, he’s still got it.
yep. I suspected as much, but I'm sad hes scoring that while on my bench. however, I wasnt about to start him ahead of London or AJ brown this week. turns out that was the wrong call. what can I say.....

Needed one more (or a mahomes running td) to complete a massive comeback. Obviously didn't happen but easy to be excited for this duo down the stretch. Dhop can still play

Around the NFL
In win over Buccaneers, Chiefs WR DeAndre Hopkins caught six of his seven targets on in-breaking routes for 70 yards, two TDs, his most yards on such routes since Week 14, 2020, per @NextGenStats

I know Chiefs spread the all around but 3rd on the team in targets won't due for me.
Chiefs seemed unprepared for what Buffalo attacked them with. It's like the Bills saw all the deficiencies of the last 4-5 weeks and put them all together in this game.

Hopefully Chiefs can now reevaluate what they have and come up with a better plan of attack.

The Chiefs looked lost yesterday. Kelce, DHop, and Juju looked terrible. There was a big pass play that DHop comes down with 95% of time. Something was off for sure. Credit the Bills D and their home crowd.

As he should, he's still a #2 caliber WR. KC was just using him stupidly.
I mostly agree. but I will also point out that it is actually hard on a WR to be traded mid season like this. Normally to start a year the WR gets a good long time to establish that chemistry with the QB before the first down of the regular season. to be traded mid season like this usually is a stat killer for the WR. occasionally the chemistry is instant, but in most cases you need to work on it. I just simply dont feel there was enough time for this to happen in KC.

but I agree. Hopkins isnt done. Not yet. but hes getting close to the end. 1 year.... maybe 2. Thats likely all hes got left.

I mostly agree, but it was weird that his usage/production went down the longer he was on the team. His best game for KC was his 2nd.

I truly believe KC actively limited their offense by their usage of players. Hopkins getting outsnapped by Justin Watson and JuJu Smith-Schuster was just poor coaching. Not saying it changes the outcome of the season or Super Bowl, but it probably contributed to some games being closer than they needed to be. Their obsession with Justin Watson is particularly mindboggling. That guy stinks, he's not good at anything. At least JuJu makes catches in traffic.

Thought they also underused Perine when Pacheco went down, all they accomplished was burning out Hunt with 25 touch games weekly.

I get where you are coming from.

I actually have a theory on this..... the goal was to not overplay any one WR during the regular season so that nobody really knows who to key on.

you do this if your star (in your opinion) isnt good enough to dominate when teams try to double cover him. and while Hopkins is good, I dont think hes a #1 WR anymore. Certainly not an elite one. so Reid played the whole disperse and play thing.

though why hes getting less love than guys like watson or Juju is puzzling to me as it is to you. Thats not a question I can really answer.... unless Hopkins was being punished for some reason....

but I have nothing to base that on. its just a stab in the dark trying to make sense of something that doesnt make sense.

I just think he's gotta get his ducks in a row before making it official and legally he couldn't just retire but had to iron out things first.

Those words are difficult to say. He wouldn't accidentally say it

With Rice suspension in the air, I'd expect KC to retain at least one of Hopkins or Marquis, especially if Kelce retires.

I would keep Brown over Hopkins, who I think should retire along with Kelce.

I would too given his youth & speed vs Hopkins, but there are a lot of behind the scenes things we aren't privy to that may tilt them towards one vs the other.
Yeah, that could be said about most players.

Brown will cost more and with KC having limited cap that may be a factor. They will probably add someone mid to late in draft and resign Justin Watson for the millionth time. They may be looking for a new TE as well.

That TD and 2pt play in the Super Bowl, were there all season, and they just ignored it.
He's 33 next season.

I don't think he's an NFL WR2 WR1 anymore and if he's a FA, I can see him not even being in a camp with someone.(if hes expecting WR1 money)
fixed that for you.

I have seen several places and people linking Hopkins to the Patriots. That's mostly due to the history between Vrabel and Hopkins. NE needs WRs and an established guy for the WR room . . . but I am not sure investing in a 33-year-old is the best approach to get through a rebuild.

I disagree with the bolded a bit. I think having a solid veteran WR is actually a very good investment when you have an inexperienced QB, and young WRs. I wouldn't want a WR room full of 33-year-olds, but 1 is perfectly fine.

I'm gonna go a little hot take here, but I think no team should be valuing Brown very much. He's always been overrated in my opinion and is probably overmatched as anything more than a #3 WR. I think even at 33, Hopkins brings a lot more to the table.

Brown is 28, has 1 season over 769 yards (and it was back in 2021) and is constantly banged up.

I don’t have a problem if they have a seasoned and savvy guy WR on the roster. But I would prefer a guy that’s been there, knows the system, and doesn’t cost a ton. Hopkins doesn’t meet that first part and who knows how much Hopkins would want (and for how long). If they want a veteran presence on how to act like a professional that knows the play book, they have that in Bourne. I’ve heard plenty of talk about trading for Kupp. I think I would prefer Kupp over Hopkins if the price is right. Not sure he’s worth $20M a year, though.

We'll always have that rookie debut game to reminisce over. 4-147-2 (47, 83).

and then he was converted to dink and dunk.

sometimes its not about that.

there are things that Hopkins can do that others in the room can pickup on. if he adds some decent leadership for the young WR (and QB) that can be a stabiliizing influence until those young men are willing to step up.

I dont know how the guy is in the dressing room but I've not heard a whole lot of negatives so I'm guessing the guy is decent. and if hes a good leader in the dressing room then they dont necessarily care if he doesnt put up huge numbers (though obviously good numbers are better than bad)
