WR Devaughn Vele, DEN (1 Viewer)

@32BeatWriters
“Devaughn Vele drew two offensive pass-interference penalties that helped extend Broncos scoring drives in the first half. Denver quarterbacks have shown a lot of trust in the rookie wide receiver in training camp, often targeting him in jump-ball situations downfield. Vele showed a veteran’s savvy on one of those plays late in the second quarter, coming back for a Nix pass through contact on the two-minute drive to draw a 34-yard penalty.”

Could be a sneaky add here ahead of the season opener. Was the talk of camp. Does not have much in front of him, so he realistically could earn a role pretty quickly.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high.

a) LJ Humphrey was just elevated from the PS, is more experienced than Vele in the Payton offense, and was actually just put ahead of Vele on the Broncos' W1 depth chart

b) Vele was kept over LJ on the 53-man in part because Vele is projected to have more upside and therefore at greater risk of not making it through waivers

c) IMO today's game is likely to be more of a defensive struggle than air-it-out type

Definitely not looking to start him today lol. More of a long-term play here.

Well I suppose if you play in a league with an incredibly large number of roster spots and can afford to carry a team's WR5/6, then go for it. Lol

Yardage total wasn't high (even though 2nd highest on the team), but 8 for 8 can't be ignored. Scored more points than most of my team.

Unsure how Bo Nix managed just 3 YPA last weekend. Was the Seahawks defense just that good. Should we downgrade this offense accordingly after sipping a lil too much Nix koolaid this preseason?

Just needs time. At Seattle is never fun. Nix is being thrown into the fire given his draft status. The rookie WR should be added in dynasty considering he was way more efficient than Sutton. I honestly want to drop Sutton- never had such a dead weight on my dynasty roster.

Wasn't the super low YPA also his shtick in college?

Such a waste of a post just to put the 😂 emoji but well worth it

Devaughn Vele has the same anytime touchdown odds (+250) as the following wide receivers in Week 12 (via @FDSportsbook):

◽️ Malik Nabers +250
◽️ Josh Downs +250
◽️ Deebo Samuel +250
◽️ Jameson Williams +250

Josh Reynolds has already been ruled out and Sean Payton loves this kid

Vele appears to have supplanted an injured Josh Reynolds as Broncos WR2 on the depth chart. Phenomenal hands and consistently clutch on 3rd downs. May prove to be a decent FF WR3 down the stretch

Sean Payton on rookie WR Devaughn Vele: "He reminds me of Marquess Colston ... In our staff meeting 20 minutes ago I said we’ve got to continue to find touches for him."

All the analytics last week said that Vele should have a good game against the Raiders because Vele's role in the offense is one the Raiders typically have a hard time defending against. I have him in a ton of leagues and couldn't start him, but it's a good sign that a rookie who was expected to have a good game did actually have a good game.

I’m not - although I think if Broncos featured him more he would be fantasy gold. He always stands out when watching the Broncos. I’m guessing he fell in the draft because he is 74 years old? Because he looks like a pretty complete receiver to me.
FYI, the reason he's old for a rookie is because he went on religious missionary work to help people, so I think that's kind of cool

that aside, he's make some fantastic catches this year and should be the next Tim Patrick -- good person and football player, but not necessarily FF relevant. That'll help Bo Nix's FF numbers a little over the next five years.
