WR Donovan Peoples-Jones, DET (2 Viewers)

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Donovan Peoples-Jones (groin) is expected to play and start in Week 9 against the Bengals.

Peoples-Jones will be returning after missing two games with the groin injury. He ran as the Browns' WR3 when the team had their full complement of receivers but they will be asking him to step up in lieu of Odell Beckham, who the team parted ways with this week. He is worth stashing in all leagues but still projects as a volatile WR4 because of Cleveland's run-heavy approach.

Really like this dude now with OBJ gone. And Landry's contract is up at the end of next year.

If dude can perform, he has a chance to solidify himself as a key part in this offense for while.
I think Anthony Schwartz has the higher upside - should have opportunity for reps after being in doghouse for fumble and drop earlier in year. I’m definitely watching in dynasty.

The Akron Beacon-Journal's Nate Ulrich reports Donovan Peoples-Jones exited Wednesday's practice after he came up limping following a route.

We'll await Cleveland's official injury report later today, but it sounds like DPJ will be limited or DNP with some sort of lower-body issue. Peoples-Jones played a season-high 85% of the snaps last week against New England in the wake of the Odell Beckham release. He's the Browns' top outside wideout.

Donovan Peoples-Jones (groin) did not participate in practice Thursday.

The groin injury was sustained in practice on Wednesday. With Anthony Schwartz (concussion) also questionable, the Browns are in a tough spot and may need to elevate some backups to join Jarvis Landry and Rashard Higgins. Peoples-Jones would have a comfortable matchup against the Lions if he were able to play, but that doesn't seem especially likely from what we are seeing here.

Browns WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (core) is questionable for Week 11 against Detroit.

The Browns cleared Peoples-Jones for a limited practice Friday after he was injured earlier this week. That has him trending in the right direction for Sunday's game with the Lions. With Anthony Schwartz (concussion) sidelined, Cleveland would likely need to add a receiver if Peoples-Jones doesn't play.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Donovan Peoples-Jones has “an uphill battle to play” in Week 11 against the Lions.

With Odell Beckham gone, DPJ was expected to take on the bulk of his role while starting alongside Jarvis Landry. Anthony Schwartz is also out for this game, leaving Rashard Higgins as the last receiver standing for WR2 duties. Despite the increased role, Higgins only projects as a WR5/6 because of Cleveland’s run-first style.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Donovan Peoples-Jones (groin, questionable) is expected to play Sunday night against the Ravens.

Peoples-Jones was not able to play last week because of the groin injury, but he got in a couple of limited practices this week and looks on track to play. The Browns' new No. 2 receiver had a rough day in Week 10 against the Patriots, but he is a big-play threat getting a decent target share. That makes him a reasonable dart throw in deeper leagues and DFS.

Donovan Peoples-Jones caught 3-of-5 targets for 76 yards in the Browns' Week 17 loss to the Steelers.

DPJ's 76 yards led the team, while his five targets were tied with Austin Hooper and Rashard Higgins for second on the Browns behind Jarvis Landry's 10. A big-play wideout on the outside for an offense that doesn't create many big passing plays, Peoples-Jones hasn't scored since Week 9. He gets a Week 18 finale against the Bengals as a boom-or-bust WR5.

Donovan Peoples-Jones tabbed for breakout season in 2022

...The Browns added Deshaun Watson, Amari Cooper and David Bell to help create a more explosive offense but it is Donovan Peoples-Jones who might benefit the most from the changes.

...Releasing Hooper without adding another significant tight end should keep three receivers on the field more often while Bell takes mostly the slot receiver role and is less of a threat to play outside often.

...Peoples-Jones is expected to start in Cleveland due to a lack of general activity at the position outside of acquiring Cooper. Jakeem Grant Sr was Cleveland’s lone free-agent signing at receiver, and Grant isn’t expected to find himself in a positional battle with Peoples-Jones given their differing body types and skill sets. Long-time veteran Jarvis Landry was released from his contract and Rashard Higgins signed with the Panthers as a free agent. The offseason departures of both Landry and Higgins further cemented Peoples-Jones’ positioning on Cleveland’s pass-catching depth chart.

Why Browns’ Donovan Peoples-Jones Is Poised For Breakout 2022 Season

... The current make-up of the Browns’ roster indicates wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones is primed for a breakout season in 2022.

... set to receive his biggest opportunity since turning pro in 2022. In 2021, Peoples-Jones recorded career-highs in receptions (34) receiving yards (597), and touchdowns (three) while serving as Cleveland’s No. 1 receiver down the final stretch of the season. It was a preview of what’s still to come. Cleveland’s passing game was downright broken last season and the opportunity that awaits Peoples-Jones in 2022 looks even more appetizing given the upgrades Cleveland has secured on offense.

...acquired wide receiver Amari Cooper in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys. Cooper will be Cleveland’s No. 1 receiver and is expected to quickly become Watson’s go-to target. While Cooper will command attention from opposing secondaries, Peoples-Jones is expected to serve as the starting receiver opposite him on the boundary. Peoples-Jones should manage to take advantage of some favorable matchups.

... the Browns aren’t expected to abandon the run altogether by any means, but Watson’s presence should lead to a more balanced approach that keeps defenses on their toes. A more pass-happy offense will benefit Peoples-Jones in 2022.

With or without Watson Peoples-Jones has limited upside IMO.  I don't see him ever cracking a fantasy lineup unless dire circumstances.

The MMQB's Albert Breer reports Donovan Peoples-Jones is "already a favorite of Deshaun Watson's."

Amari Cooper is the unquestioned No. 1 receiver in Cleveland, but Peoples-Jones has a great opportunity to run away with the No. 2 job. His career 16.0 aDOT also projects as a much better fit with Watson than it did with Baker Mayfield. As is the case with every Brown, Peoples-Jones' fantasy value is contingent on the status of Watson, but he could shine once Watson is under center.

I'm from Missouri on DPJ hype, let's not forget the glowing reports from last training camp.

The Browns' official website reports the team believes second-year WR Donovan Peoples-Jones could "take a big leap this year."

It’s really hard not to hype the camp Donovan Peoples-Jones is having. It really is. Trying to maintain perspective but he shows up multiple times per day. #Browns

Could Donovan Peoples-Jones Be A Future WR1 For Browns?

Donovan Peoples-Jones is all over the field at Browns training camp

1) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones is taking a big step. He's slimmed down, catching everything, has worked all offseason with Baker Mayfield, and his traits are translating into his play.

ESPN's Jake Trotter reports the Browns are "counting on" Donovan Peoples-Jones to "fill a big role" as the starter opposite Amari Cooper.

Third-round rookie David Bell has been the subject of fantasy hype, but it is third-year deep threat DPJ who is the most logical candidate to start opposite Cooper. A born field stretcher, 6-foot-2 Peoples-Jones has averaged at least 17.6 yards per catch each of his two years in the league. He nearly doubled his rookie yardage total (304) to 597 last season despite missing three games. Of course, DPJ is known for lighting up pad-less practices, but unlike some t-shirts and shorts all stars, it has actually translated a bit to real games. DPJ will be an intriguing WR4 when Deshaun Watson is under center. He will be off the map when it's Jacoby Brissett.

I like the guy, especially in dynasty where we should eventually see him paired with Watson.

Not so big on his redraft prospects until we know the Watson situation.

First game.
DPJ was clutch.

This is really encouraging. DJP has really put in the work developing his craft. You never expect 6th rounders to work out but he forced his way into a role last year with impressive OTAs and a great TC. Obviously there are limitations given the QB and low volume on a run first offense. Still, 11 targets out of the gate is terrific.

I remember they were talking about this kid named Donny Jones when he was in 8th grade before he went to Cass Tech HS.

All of sudden he was Donavon Peoples Jones in HS.

I liked him at Michigan, tall with long arms and very deceptive speed with long strides.

He had so many chances to excel in the last couple of years, is this on Mayfield?

I don` think so. Jones just turned 21 when he came into the NFL. Just maturing as a player and WR.

Donovan Peoples-Jones caught 4-of-5 targets for 74 yards in the Browns' Week 6 loss to the Patriots.

Peoples-Jones picked up 59 of his yards on a pair of long catches in the fourth quarter. The Browns were frantically trying to catch up to the Patriots, who ultimately crushed them in this one-sided affair. Peoples-Jones finished the day with an 11 percent target share. He has reached 50 yards in all but two games this year, though his target share is not overly impressive. He will be a boom/bust WR5 for his Week 7 matchup with the Ravens.

Donovan Peoples-Jones caught 6-of-7 targets for 71 yards in the Browns' Week 7 loss to the Ravens.

Peoples-Jones was tied for the team lead in targets. He regularly separated from Baltimore defenders as coverage seemed to tilt toward Amari Cooper. His Week 7 outing marks the third time in four games Peoples-Jones has eclipsed 70 receiving yards. He's become a reliable WR3 who has the upside of being Cleveland's most potent downfield pass-catching threat. He'll be startable in 12-team leagues next week against the Bengals.

Why do I feel that every time a twitter personality tweets about a player prop that they are being paid directly to promote the pop on Vegas behalf? lol

I feel it never works out

"Cordarelle Patterson 12 receiving yards is free money" said someone on PFF re: TNF

Yeah, not a lot of "free money" given away by these fellows. I guess some people haven't noticed that the hybrid role Patterson played last year is gone with Mariota replacing Ryan. 6 catches in 6 games this year. Granted, 12 yards should have been free money, but he's just not getting any usage in the passing game this year.

That said, this one does look pretty solid because I think the game script will mean a lot of passing for the Browns in the 2nd half. Hope so anyway as due to byes and injuries, firing up Peoples-Jones this week.

DPJ has played 8 games this season.
He has surpassed 50 yards receiving in 6 of those 8 games.
He's surpassed 50 yards receiving in each of the last 5 games.

What Has Donovan Peoples-Jones Done This Season?
Peoples-Jones has now recorded 70 or more receiving yards in four of Cleveland's last five. Though he's clearly playing second fiddle to Amari Cooper in this Browns receiving corps, he's been on the field for an average of 87% of the Browns' offensive plays this season, and his 46 targets this year trail only Cooper for the team lead.
... While the Browns are one of the league's most run-heavy teams, DPJ has locked up the deep-threat role in this offense. ..
...With Cleveland TE David Njoku officially ruled out for Week 10, we can expect DJP's role in the Browns' passing attack to remain substantial. He draws a matchup against a Miami Dolphins secondary that ranks bottom-10 in the NFL in both receiving yards and fantasy points allowed to the WR position. Peoples-Jones should be added immediately and must be considered as an every-week FLEX option thanks to his rock-solid usage and production.

@SalVetriDFS

Stash Donovan Peoples-Jones.
He continues to produce…
Scoring 11+ points in 4 of his last 5 games.
But he has even more upside:

With Miami's poor pass defense and Njoku OUT it sure 'seems' like a solid bet.
Browns Vs. Dolphins Stats and Trends
  • The 245.9 passing yards the Dolphins give up per game makes them the NFL’s 23rd-ranked pass defense this season.

I'm not a betting man but I actually thought it was worth sharing but YMMV.

    (14:52 - 1st) J.Brissett pass deep left to D.Peoples-Jones to MIA 15 for 38 yards (K.Kohou) [Z.Sieler]
Only needs 7 more yards to surpass 44.5 receiving yards.

4 hours ago Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones caught five of his nine targets for 99 yards in his team's 39-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 10. Peoples-Jones was one of the few bright spots for the Browns in the loss, leading the team in all receiving categories in the blowout. Peoples-Jones is enjoying a breakout in 2022, having gone for at least 50 yards in seven of his nine games. He has yet to score a touchdown, however, which has caused him to fly under the radar a bit in fantasy. Peoples-Jones will be a solid flex heading into a Week 11 matchup against the Buffalo Bills.
Another awesome game. All building to Watson's return.

DPJ has looked good with Brissett.
The way the offense is currently constructed with Brissett shows Jacoby has blind spots/weakness' in that he holds onto the ball too-long waiting on a limited options where he lacks vision getting to some deeper reads that are wide open.
Watson will not have started a regular season NFL game in over 700 days when he gets his next start, no one knows what to expect but he 'should' be able to go deeper into reads.
The offense will look different.
I am not sure what to expect when Watson is back with DPJ.

DPJ not getting separation but still making catches. Brissett has been throwing the ball up to DPJ who has been adjusting and fighting to make catches.
See linked story below as 'some' see DPJ's production in the Miami game as a step forward.

I'm not sure what to expect with Njoku coming back and the switch at QB to Watson.

The Importance of the Dolphins Game for Donovan Peoples-Jones

Jones does not have that quick burst off the line but as you see in the punt return once he gets in stride he is as fast as anyone. Most of the fastest 100 meter track winners are losing at the 50 meter mark until they hit stride.

Don`t think Jones will ever be a star #1 WR due to that, but without a doubt he can be a solid #2 and play on most teams.
