WR Emmanuel Sanders (RETIRED) (3 Viewers)

It’s not the viable WR2 that matters. It’s the route running. Since Sanders was at Pit he has been excellent in his routes. Brees will love that all day long.
This. Peyton Manning loved him. So will Brees.

His recovery from the Achilles was remarkable. You need ultra-high film resolution to see any reduction in foot speed/quickness due to age.

Looks like he’ll be my WR3 for the next few weeks.

Any feel for how Tre’Quan has developed over the last few years? Is he ready for a bigger role? Or do you think the target shares simply increases for Cook & Kamara?

In 2019, Smith had 1 TD in the first 2 games before suffering a high ankle sprain. Then 4 TDs in the last games. All on 18 total catches, because Thomas was getting most of the catches. With Brees there is potential. Oh, and he had two 100 yard games as a rookie. But he's never played as a primary WR in the NFL. He has size and was 4.49 in the 40 at the combine. In his NFL highlights, he catches over the middle, gets separation, and looks explosive.

It's odd because the truth is that the Saints have gotten away from the spread it out to multiple receivers philosophy they used to hold. Thomas is by far the most dominant touch vacuum this regime has ever seen. Smith has been made into what Meachem was, which, while not a deep threat like Meachem, means that he primarily blocks and blocks well. When he's gotten open he's been schemed open. He's made some good plays for the Saints but my perception has been that he has had trouble gaining separation. I think any or all of Trautman, Taysom Hill, Bennie Fowler, Ty Montgomery, or even Harris could get into the mix alongside Smith. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if we see more of Hill as a TE2 come into play more. The old rule was that Lance Moore was the fallback if/when Colston went out, I think that's what we'll see with Sanders and how.

I agree there would be no dominant WR if Thomas were to miss time - he's special and fits Brees' skill set. I read that Tre'Quan had some type of injury after his 2018 breakout games and in 2019 he had the high ankle sprain which slowed him down during the middle of the season.  In that 2018 game against the Eagles, Saints rookie WR Tre'Quan Smith had the highest-graded game by a wide receiver in the 2018 season. He showed it all, separation, contested catches, good hands, multiple routes. One game doesn't make a player, especially when he's not being covered by the best DB. But he looks explosive even on his limited catches in 2019: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bBrgod29ULI

I own Brees and Sanders and not sure this helps the latter that much. Kamara, Cook as primary and then Sanders, Smith. Hope I’m wrong. Definitely kills Brees
I don't know if a Raiders corner is going to be assigned Sanders this week, but whoever it is will be at a disadvantage. Which is why I'm not so sure this is really that bad of a thing for Brees. This week anyway. There are some quality pieces in the Raiders defense, but none of them are adept in coverage (yet).

2nd round sophomore corner on one side and a rookie 1st rounder on the other. Both very talented and look like fixtures for years to come, but inexperienced. Arnette got beat bad by a double move last week that led to a 75 yd TD by Robbie Anderson. That aside, I think he's played well so far. Problem with the Raiders D last week was almost zero pressure against Carolina OL. Not expecting improvement against Saints OL, so Brees should have tons of time to pick apart the green Raiders secondary.

Weakest link in Raider D backfield is Lamarcus Joyner in the slot. Someone on the Saints in going to feast on him IMO (Cook, Kamara or darkhorse Deonte Harris - no way Joyner keeps up with that little jitterbug).

I was offered D. Parker for my OBJ last year after week 6.  I laughed at it and regretted it.  I wouldn't trade a bag of chips for OBJ, much less Sanders.

i thought you were in love with this guy
Not in love with him - he was one of my sleepers.

but my IDP team had a terrible secondary & I was able to trade my WR5 for Honey Badger, who’s a lock for 15-20 points a week.

Id rather have the +10 in my lineup every week than whatever Sanders does on my bench.

He was just dropped in my league

16 teamer

I mean, I figure he has to be ROSTERED right?
Yeah, but he has to ride the bench until he does something unless he was like your 5th WR on a team that also had Sutton and AJ Brown.  Sanders is more of a vertical guy, and Brees just can't chuck it deep like he used to.  Plus, Sanders is a great number 2, not really a number 1, and without Thomas there to draw coverage away, he will be facing the top cornerbacks probably more often than not.

I no longer regret trading him away.

man - you sign a FA WR to be your #2, your #1 gets hurt & you forgot entirely about the FA you signed until the last 1:10-Ish?

Irrelevant in that format, but he *should* have been relevant in 12+ team leagues. Inexplicable usage.
Agreed.  My WRs are pretty bad which is why I rolled the dice with him in the role.  Plenty of better options out there.  I think the concern about Brees is real.

He's earned the right to go out on his own terms. But it’s time. Accordingly, this will be a lost season in New Orleans. That will make Sanders irrelevant in FF.
I wonder if they don't come up with some kind of "dead arm" injury for Brees.  I thought he was on fumes last year.   If he can't get it deep in a dome, wait til he gets a few outdoor games in colder weather.  I also don't get the Hill fascination.  Winston... is what he is most likely, if Arians couldn't straighten him out, he may not be salvageable but golly...

Emmanuel Sanders caught 1-of-3 targets for 18 yards in the Saints' Week 2 loss to the Raiders.

Expected to be a bigger part of the offense with the Saints missing Michael Thomas (ankle), Sanders saw fewer targets in this one than he did in Week 1. Sanders has just four catches for 33 yards and one touchdown on eight targets through two weeks. The veteran needs to be downgraded to WR4/5 status ahead of a Week 3 date at the Packers.

Sorry, I just blew this. I thought Sanders would be go to. Brees just isn’t trying much less hitting anything deep.
They had a stat up on the game last night they he didn't have a throw over 20 yards through the 3rd quarter.  I was really high on Sanders this year as I thought he would get a bunch of deep shots and some of the underneath stuff too.  I hate to panic after two weeks, but Brees and Sanders are near droppable in most formats.

A theme being brought up by multiple talking heads is that Brees' long game is virtually unchanged since 2017.

I wonder if throwing dirt on the guy is a tad premature.

Emmanuel Sanders caught 4-of-5 targets for 56 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Packers.

Sanders went untargeted until Drew Brees hit him on a 10-yard touchdown on the Saints' final play of the first half. He ended up leading the Saints’ receivers in yards but finished well behind Alvin Kamara (13/139/2). Sanders scored this week, but he hasn’t made much of an impact despite Michael Thomas missing time. His target share would take a hit if Thomas returns in Week 4.

Emmanuel Sanders caught 6-of-9 targets for 93 yards in the Saints' Week 4 win over the Lions.

Sanders entered this one with a pair of sub-20 yards games to his name through three weeks, but the veteran paced the Saints in Week 4 targets and led the team in receiving. It was Tre'Quan Smith who caught both of Drew Brees' touchdowns, however. Sanders has a couple scores already, but there isn't a whole lot of upside here, especially with Michael Thomas (ankle) due back possibly as soon as next week against the Chargers. Sanders is more of a WR4/5 as the fourth or fifth option in New Orleans' offense.

Emmanuel Sanders caught 12-of-14 targets for 122 yards in the Saints' Week 5 win over the Chargers.

Sanders has 56 yards and/or one touchdown in 4-of-5 games this season and has posted three-straight useful fantasy games with Michael Thomas (ankle) out of the lineup. With Thomas expected back after next week's bye, Sanders' usage should take a big hit as the No. 3 or 4 option in the offense behind at least Alvin Kamara and Thomas. Sanders is likely headed for WR4/5 status the rest of the way after seeing 23 targets over the last two weeks.

Saints placed Emmanuel Sanders on the COVID-19 list.

New Orleans is not expected to have either Michael Thomas (hamstring) or Sanders in Week 7 against the Panthers. The team will move forward with some combination of Tre'Quan Smith, Deonte Harris and Marquez Callaway in three-wide sets with Jared Cook at tight end. Alvin Kamara remains the only player fantasy managers can have confidence in for Week 7.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Saints WR Emmanuel Sanders (reserve/COVID-19 list) is expected to return to practice this week and play in Week 9 against the Buccaneers.

The Saints should get an influx of talent at receiver in Week 9 with Sanders set to return and Michael Thomas (hamstring) also possibly coming back. They are currently down to Tre'Quan Smith, Deonte Harris, and Austin Carr as their starting wideouts in three-receiver sets. Sanders will take a backseat to Thomas once both players are healthy but he could have some value as Drew Brees's second read on a number of plays each week. He will slot in as a WR4 for fantasy purposes.

anybody flexing him this week?

I probably won't (he's like my WR7) but win probability is pretty high; sometimes ya just feel like doing a what the heck when you're a big fav or heavy dog

Crickets here? After M. Thomas news? What did everyone bail for the holidays? Strange.

Was sitting in waivers and I grabbed him. Gotta be the #1 WR option for NO with Brees back in a potential shootout. Sanders' production with MT out earlier this season is undeniable.

That said, Brees is just getting back and this could be a run heavy/Kamara dump off game plan. Still, I'd expect a healthy number of targets.

Was all set to start Antonio Brown in my 2nd flex spot, but now thinking about shifting to Sanders.

Grabbed him off waivers quickly as well. I put him in over D.J. Moore in my WR2 slot, but I’m going to have a tough decision if Curtis Samuel sits.

Dropped Golladay and picked up Sanders. Hill and Metcalf / Kamara and Montgomery plugged in and group of these vying for the Flex: Hilton, Gallman, J Wilson, Bowden (a likely drop), and Sanders. At least no one else gets to play Sanders. But he is in the conversation now.

Hilton looks really juicy again. Sanders just became a WR #2 this week.
