WR Isaiah Bond, CLE (1 Viewer)

I couldn’t find a thread for Bond, so here is one.

I alway thought he was more about projection than substance. If that wasn’t bad enough.

A few things. First his Attorney or agent or both wrote a well worded statement. Secondly.....I hope this is a false accusation and it gets resolved because it is never a good thing when false accusations ruin peoples lives long term.

As far as his NFL prospects....if he could learn to catch and run routes he has a shot because you can't teach the speed he has.

Why in the world is being able to run routes and catching the ball so important for a WR to some?

The details don't sound good for him. It'll have to play out in court, and innocent until found guilty. But if the text messages are real, it reads like he sexually assaulted her and then tried to bribe her. Typically courts look at attempted bribes as admissions of wrong-doing.

Regardless; I can see no team touching him until this is resolved.

I can't help but think that many fantasy managers may kick themselves for passing up Bond at such a value -- essentially free. I recall Tyreek Hill falling down dynasty draft boards due to off-field concerns and not having eye-popping college numbers, and Bond's situation is a bit similar (not comparing the talent level as much as the situation). Bond will likely find himself on an NFL roster eventually, and his cost is going to go up. Will he ultimately succeed in the NFL? I have my doubts, honestly, but if you have a flexible roster spot, why not grab a lottery ticket?

Case has been no billed and he faces no further criminal charges.

I'm not a fantasy football fan but in real life he'd be an intriguing addition for some teams.

That was fast, apparently signing with the Browns which is so ironic or something to sign with them with he and Judkins getting cleared on the same day.

And good move by the Browns IMO.

Always thought he was overrated as a prospect. He's like the 10th best skill position player Texas had the last 2 seasons. I think he can be a Mecole Hardman type who makes his living on special teams, but I doubt he'll ever be more than a sub-package WR. Without the off field stuff, I still think he goes no earlier than round 4/5.

Maybe he can make a run at the #5 WR job on the Browns?

BREAKING: The Browns are signing Texas UDFA WR Isaiah Bond, per source.

He has been cleared of all charges and now heads to Cleveland.
Deshaun needed a roommate?

He's a must add in dynasty if he's out there. I just bid 50% for him and landed him.

  • Lance Zierlein who is one of the most experienced and accurate draft anlysts comped him to Jaylen Waddle, gave him a score of 6.30 (eventual plus starter) which is a similar score to Tre Harris, Quinshon Judkins, Bhaysul Tuten, Roman Wilson, Xavier Worthy, Ricky Pearsall, Tank Dell and Tucker Kraft from recent drafts.
  • He was projected by most to be a day 2 pick before the arrest
  • Was the leading WR at Alabama in 2023 and was the lead target at Texas over Matthew Golden before suffering a high ankle sprain
  • 21 years old, early declare, 5'10" 180, 4.39 40 time with Mockdraftable having his best comp as John Brown
He has been cleared by a grand jury. Cleveland signed him to the largest guaranteed contract a UDFA has ever received. He is guaranteed more money than any 3rd round pick this year. It's a historic investment. This is not your typical UDFA and if he's sitting on your dynasty waiver wire, you need to be extremely aggressive in adding him. It's basically like getting another 2nd round rookie pick. Is Cleveland the ideal landing spot? No, but there is certainly room for a receiver to earn a lot of playing time early on. Maybe Sanders ends up being a good QB and this is acually an ideal landing spot? Maybe the Browns are awful and they spend a top 3 pick on a QB next year? There are lots of situations where this turns into a top 40 dynasty WR within a year or 2. Yes, he might still get suspended by the NFL. Who knows but again, you're getting a player that was considered a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the NFL draft for hardly anything.

I was quick to jump on the Jalen Coker hype, then he hit IR. Turned that share into Isaiah Bond. Why not, they are all dart throws at this point. Bond really only has two WR hurdles in Cleveland, Jeudy and Tillman. I think before long he could be better than both. Granted, Clev Offense is a $$$$ show, but that can change in a year or two.

I have him in all three of my dynasty leagues mostly based on Waldman's analysis. Worried he is going to clog up a roster spot in FFPC because of poor QB play.

In looking back on all of the early pre-draft rankings that I had expected to see Golden showcased, instead the hype and breakdown noted was for Bond. Disregarding the potential legal, / ethical circumstances, it's an easy add of a player worthy of a late 1st to mid 2nd rookie draft pick.

isaiah bond's routes by week:

week 1: 23%
week 2: 39%
week 3: 58%
week 4: 71%

bond was widely looked at as a day 2 pick in the draft prior to the off-the-field issues left him undrafted. cedric tillman has a hamstring strain, and joe flacco is 2nd in the nfl in pass attempts. biggest pause would be the obvious flacco benching coming at some point

I would think he's had a lot of practice reps with Gabriel....could help

NFL Week 4: Rookie Team of the Week

Wide Receiver:

After a tumultuous offseason that saw the former Alabama and Texas product go undrafted, Isaiah Bond has had a lot to prove since joining the Browns midway through the preseason. He’s already seen a sizable role in the Browns’ offense, and Week 4 against the Lions was his top performance thus far. On Sunday, Bond caught three passes, two of them contested, for 58 yards and a 72.4 PFF receiving grade.

I was not a big fan when he came out as I thought he disappeared in Texas games that I had watched and Golden seemed to be the one making all of the noise. That being said, he has had an impressive trajectory after a tumultuous draft process. Made two really nice plays against my Lion’s and is now in a great position to be a consistent contributor. Seems to have above average hands and runs good routes, with impressive acceleration after the catch. Excited to see what he can do with some more deep shots now that they have a QB whole with some maneuverability to extend plays. Arrow is definitely pointing up.

I think he gets knocked on this angle a little to much because so many people started focusing more on watching Texas late in the season, in the conference championship games and playoffs, and at that point he had suffered an ankle injury which absolutely tanked his production to point he was close to a zero the last few weeks of the season. This is when Golden took off, after Bond hurt his ankle, but to be fair the best of Golden was better then healthy Bond was, just pointing out some context should be given for his late season disappearance.

With that aside I was not a huge fan myself, not seeing him as someone people were touting as a top 5 WR or late first/early second round talent.

I now own him on half my dynasty leagues.

A few things that have me optimistic, more then I was previously:

*I watch most games, especially when the Browns are playing at noon CST on Sunday, in the multiview with usually 4 games on two TV's. I mention all of that to say I'm looking at kind of tiny boxes and trying to watch a lot at once. I think I'm pretty good at recognizing a players movement, even in tiny box, and knowing who it is but sometimes it's not quite clear especially if the view is obstructed. Which gets to my long winded point. Was watching them in week 3 when I saw a Browns WR make an explosive move to catch the ball and took a hard hit. I'm a Juedy guy, and when I saw that play I thought it was Juedy because I knew for sure it was not Tillman and I had two thoughts. Dang, I hated to see Juedy lit up like that and I hope he's ok. My second thought was I had no idea Juedy had that kind of explosive ability. It was not Juedy, it was Bond and I knew he was a good athlete but this kind of movement was just a different level of explosiveness. I picked him up in blind bid waivers on the next run in one league. Wanted to add him on all my teams where he was available but could not find a spot.

*I think the domestive violence accusations that both Bond and Judkins dealt with might make them so much better off. I know that sounds odd but Bonds is physically talented, explosive, and maybe just needed to hone into his craft more. I feel like with both of them, especially Bond, they were staring at their careers being in danger before it ever started. Maybe sometimes people like Bond take his athletic gifts for granted but when you get a wakeup call like that, when your whole career is in danger, I think that can change people.

Isaiah Bond caught 2-of-7 targets for 29 yards in the Browns’ Week 5 loss to the Vikings.

Bond’s role continued to grow with Cedric Tillman on injured reserve. The increase in opportunities didn’t do anything for his fantasy output. He and rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel failed to get on the same page at almost any point in this game, as evidenced by Bond’s 29 percent catch rate. Bond has already flashed big-play potential and now his role is on the rise, but it’s hard to expect Gabriel’s check-down-heavy style to mesh well with Bond’s speedster skill set. Fantasy managers should look elsewhere for a FLEX play in Week 6.

Down 4 with 11 seconds left and no timeouts, catches a ball in the middle of the field and does the first down motion instead of hustling to get lined up. Tells me everything I need to know about this guy,

That he's a young rookie? I'm not a fan of the showboating after every play that these guys do regardless of the score. However, we can just hope that he matures. He has ability though. He'll do more good than bad in the future.
