WR Jahan Dotson, PHI (3 Viewers)

I think this trade Lowers his floor and raises his ceiling.

This is where I'm at...I think his ADP remains similar. If I were a dynasty owner I think I'd be for this trade. He was already a late round dart throw.
I dont disagree.

if the floor goes lower and the ceiling higher, the risk/reward usually stays close to even. but hes definitely lower on the depth chart in philly. but its a smaller piece of a much larger pie. and if he moves up on the depth chart the ceiling is far higher than it was in Washington

Man this sucks. I really loved what Dotson showed his rookie year...and now he's gone to our rivals. This SUCKS. But I do trust Peters and the coaches. Something is going on...not sure we'll ever know but its very shocking to me. Maybe Lamb or Aiyuk is in play now??
When have we ever trusted Washington coaches?
Right or wrong, I got respect for Washington here.

This franchise hasn't made a correct decision in 4 decades. But screw it, we're going to outsmart Howie, and look like massive fools if it goes poorly.

I dig it. Shooters shoot.

I'm excited about the direction of this team & early on it was reported that Dotson would be moved back to the slot & he was sounding positive about his role in this offense. But when Dan Quinn said the #2 role was up for grabs, I moved him for players I was looking at (Audric Estime/ Javon Baker). That was a few days ago, yesterday the conversation on Jaylen Wright convinced me to move both of them for him.

But reading this thread, now I think he's a hold. What if, after hearing that Aiyuk wanted to be reunited with Daniels & that the team had pursued him, Dotson wanted to be moved? Part of the problem there was concentration & effort, some of the easiest things to fix. He could more than your bye week guy, he could be your going against the Commanders guy! lol

I think it's that tiny catch radius that restricts him to the slot. There's a real buzz around this organization, I agree that Dotson was positioned for a more prominent role in Washington than what's likely in Philly. To me, the kid that just became a bit more interesting is TE Ben Sinnott.

I've read that Jonathan Allen is a player they're also looking to move. Reportedly, Washington & other teams are willing to pay Aiyuk what he wants, which does SF no favor.

Not predicting injury, but if something were to happen to Goeddart, D.Smith or (knock on wood) AJB, Dotson’s value would take a big bump.

I prefer having him more now that he’s at least in line for a higher potential ceiling than had WAS kept him & relegated him to the slot.

It’s an interesting landing spot. PHI has been looking for a WD3 for a while now. He still has to win the job, and as others have mentioned he’s pretty late to the party, but I don’t mind having him as a back of the bench player in dynasty.

no way to spin this beyond Massive Downgrade to go from "awesome rookie that will be the WR2 next to Terry and have a top ranked rookie QB slinging it to him" to "#4 or 5 WR on the depth chart".

I'm holding for now (no choice since FFPC doesn't do their first waiver runs til right before Week 1 of the season) but he's at the end of my bench, sitting on oil, holding a 100 pound weight.

Not convinced Dotson's ceiling is now higher. I think it's a safe bet that Philly's going to be the better offense, for about 5 or 6 games. Totally agree he's a hold, they didn't move him because he sucks. He uncharacteristically became less assignment sound amidst this development to pursue Aiyuk.

I’m not convinced the 49ers are trading Aiyuk.

But we’ll see. Based on my prior comments in here maybe I’ll be batting .1000

Also his ceiling absolutely gets higher - should the Eagles take a hit at WR with injury, Dotson would seem to be a beneficiary. But like I said, he has to get there and learn the offense 1st.

that may well, be, but I guess the question is.... does Washington have any players that San Fran would want who would be acceptable in trade for Aiyuk? my guess is.... no. so this was a dream that was highly unlikey to come true unless Washington parts with significant draft capital. Even then, San fran wants to win Now. the draft helps in the future. so its not a match that way either.

Therein lay the rub.

If a trade to WAS was gonna happen, why not just send the 9ers Dotson + picks?

The 49ers get a former 1st round project WR who can play now, WAS gets to pay Aiyuk eleventy billion dollars.

Perfect.

But they didn’t do that, so I’m skeptical there’s a deal there. Last I heard on the radio, 9ers offered $29M a year - no detail as to years and guaranteed.

He’s asking $30, so it sounds like they’re close-ish.

We ran it over, he can't open against Top 10 corners. Redskins thought so too.

Even if Brown or the Heisman get hurt, it's not like this guy suddenly developed talent. With Barkley, Brown, Heisman, and Hurts on the field this guy will be able to get open against the league's worst corner, but the targets won't be there. He'll get 3-4 quality targets a week but that's it.

What's interesting is both teams drafted high the position they're now looking to trade. Both players are disgruntled I guess, and fill a need for the other team. Aiyuk is a fit for Washington & Jonathan Allen, a very good interior pass rusher, isn't a player the 49ers could use? He didn't do as well vs the run, but teams like the 'niners that are almost always playing with a lead, a need for one-dimensional DL that are run-stoppers... not exactly a premium. Given Adam Peters rapport with the 49ers organization, I consider it a very plausible trade.

Looking at how tough and physical the 49ers skilled players are (Deebo, Ayiuk, CMC, Kittle) they may not have wanted Dotson. I wouldn't be surprised if they would value the pick more than him.

its possible. Maybe the most likely scenario I've seen in terms of any trade with Washington.

but wouldnt san fran want a WR who could fill the void vacated by Aiyuk? that would be ideal for them I would think

They drafted Pearsall for a reason right?

He fits the mold of getting a guy who gets separation in space in the NFL.

Good OC stretch the field horizontally. Pearsall has those straights but apparently got hurt, in practice? Early results indicate, not a dog. But his skill set, plays they run for both Deebo and Brandon he can execute on.

I just don't know how tough this guy is.

its hard to evaluate a guy who has a bad qb like Dotson has had. you dont know if the subpar numbers are more due to bad QB play or bad WR play. I'm sure its a bit of each, but I'm leaning towards bad QB play taking the larger portion of the blame

He's a WR3 now.
I had some thoughts but...he's a WR3 now.

Good for him that he gets to go home.

I don't know that I care about the drops. The guy has had notable hands since college and like 5-6 drops each year in the NFL but a rookie comes along and when Dotson drops it it's his fault but if any other WR drops it it's that the rookie needs to learn touch.

He's averaged 500ish yards per season and he's a WR3 soooo that fits.

I'm bummed I don't get to wonder if he'll have this bright future and develop and instead he's got a pretty hard cap here

Dan Quinn said of the Jahan Dotson trade: "You always make decisions that are rock solid and best for the team...Everything is a factor. We thought we were a deep and strong group. We had a lot of different guys. At the end it was an opportunity to help the team."

"...[W]ouldn't San Fran want a WR who could fill the void vacated by Aiyuk? That would be ideal for them I would think."
The bit I've looked into Ricky Pearsall, to me he's not a player I would've drafted in 1st round. Top traits are his football IQ, mindset & ball skills. But his physical tools, that of a 1st round talent? In their window, obviously he's someone they believe can play meaningful minutes sooner rather than later. Mentioned above, having drafted a WR, the 'niners may well prefer the draft pick.

certainly possible. and if they feel hes ready maybe they want the draft pick. but most of the trade rumours I've seen sent a WR back at San Fran, so my assumption was that this kid likely could use a little more time before hes ready to be unleashed, but sometimes you dont get the luxury of waiting.

I guess we will find out when something finally happens and we know what San Fran is doing. sounds like they really want Aiyuk to return and that is their best case scenario.

Dropped him like a bad habit in dynasty once he got traded. Stuck on his rookie contract behind two studs and a good TE. Plus Barkley who is a good receiver and a QB that likes to run. Pass.

AJ Terrell will be on DeVonta. The Falcons will game plan to stop Barkley and that should give Dotson a lot of opportunities.

Dotson is not good. I would hate to think of a scenario where I consider starting or rostering this guy.

I'd rather gamble on Troy Franklin or Jalyn Polk. Pick somebody who hasn't proven to be a JAG.

Let me go on record and say that nobody on this website should be rostering Jahan Dotson.

He is not good. Undersized receiver without overwhelming speed or a quick twitch.

Jahan Dotson in game 3 had 62 snaps, leading all Eagles skill players. He managed two catches for 8 yards on three targets, bringing his three-game total to three catches for 14 yards

I've obviously been low on this guy since WAS drafted him, but how can a guy with season stat of 151 snaps only be targeted only 5 times and have 3 catches for 14 yards? Seems odd. I wonder what PHI has in store. They wouldn't roll him out there for 80% of the snaps unless they thought he could do something other than set picks. Or is that the Iggles offensive scheme now?

If there is a week for him to show he still has talent, this is it. Banged up TB Defense and AJ and Devonta both out most likely. He should get at least 7-8 targets. Do something with them, Jahan.

2 catches 8 yards this week with no AJ meh
But devonta and Goedert were the focus. We'll see what happens this week.

Up to 5 receptions for 25 yards on the season. It is rare we fleece PHI in a trade. And a late draft picks were more than enough in return for this dud.
