WR Jameson Williams, DET (1 Viewer)

Jamo looked better here!

the social media team made a concerted effort to highlight every toe tapper & contested catch they could find after the negative practice reports came out. he seemed fine in his media appearance. just a competitive day of practice, he knows it’s 15 yards if you swat somebody in a game.

kid is def under the microscope. every step is scrutinized & analyzed. but that’s part of raised expectations for a team expected to win their division.

[Reisman] It appears Jameson williams read the headlines. Having a pretty huge day and just pulled in a 55-yd grab during 7-on-7s. Had Sutton beat by 5 yards.

There's been nothing positive, and a bunch of negative, on this guy for like two years

That is because the beat reporters are kind of prickly. Jamo was dumped on as soon as he was drafted. Jamo looks awesome and burns people in camp routinely. He is working on perfecting his routes and timing. The kid has talent no one else in the league possesses. There is much more wrong with the asinine reporting than Jamo. Jamo will be just fine and will be uncatchable once he gets the ball.

Jameson Williams & the first scrimmage

Nick Baumgardner & Colton Pouncey (author of the article I linked earlier) discuss Jamo & the rest of the Detroit WR corps. Pretty good insight IMO, sort of bring into context where he’s at and also the thin resume (buried at OSU, one big year, ACL, and missed the first few days of install this year.)

The talent is obviously there. He can make the best Detroit DBs (Cam Sutton, CJGJ) look silly. He’s also prone to breaking the wrong way. He’s not ARSB (no one is), he’s not fully engaged all the time. He’s a different kind of player. I think he def has a chance to show out this year but probably shouldn’t expect him to hit the ground running Week 7.

Will be interesting to see how he does in the joint practices with the Giants this week.

Probably more likely this year to be a guy who helps the real Detroit Lions but is too inconsistent to help your fantasy team much. Maybe a Travis Benjamin or Mecole Hardman kind of stat line.

Lions vs. Giants joint practice Day 1 observations: Standouts on offense, defense

Offensive standouts during 1-on-1s

The chemistry still isn’t there with Jameson Williams, as he failed to pull in any of this three one-on-one reps. That said, he beat Darnay Holmes on one rep, but Holmes made up ground on an underthrow and got to Williams a bit early, yet didn’t draw a flag. It was a pretty quiet day from Williams overall, as I only have him making a couple short catches during team drills.

This has been a consistent theme with Jamo this summer. He does not do well in individual position drills. When he was showed out, it has always been in 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s.

Running with the 2s for joint practices with the Giants. Nate Sudfeld did not have a good day and Pride of Detroit said Jamo may not have touched the ball all day.

Per Campbell's presser last week, they said they want to douse Jamo in reps. Will be interesting to see how many series he plays Friday night. ARSB, Marvin Jones and Josh Reynolds were listed as starters in their first depth chart released this week.

Anyway, I normally don't pay much attention to PS games but given he won't be in the building for 3 weeks after the season starts I think they might play him more than most starters.

guys on the local sports radio going on and on about how Jamo needs to prove himself in the preseason, sounds like he might be on the field a lot tonight

Also had a pretty sweet 1 handed grab for a 2 point conversion with the Defender draped all over him.

Jamo made some mistakes and made some good plays. Not where he needs to be yet. Sudfeld made one nice pass where Jamo was covered but Jamo reached out and got his hands on the ball. He needs to catch the ball first. Jamo was also wide open downfield a few times and Sudfeld did not see him. A few easy catches for small gains and a nice one handed two-point conversion. One time it looked like Jamo and Sedfeld were crossed up on what play was being run. Expected a better performance at this point, but it is pre-season. Jamo has more to learn before he will be trusted with a big role.

Jamo played 51 snaps vs NYG, 7 targets, 2-18, 1 drop, + 2 pt conv reception

nice breakdown of his game here by All 22 Films

joint practices this week with the Jaguars, expect him to see plenty of snaps again on Saturday

he only played 78 snaps in 6 games last year so these weeks are crucial to his development

once the suspension starts, he will not be allowed in the facility for three weeks - he'll rejoin the team Week 4 and play his first game Week 7 @ BAL

Is this speculation or has the team said this? I really wanted to draft him this year in re-draft. With a week 9 bye that means he'll only be available 6 of my 12 ff weeks. He's being going in round 11. Might be too expensive for a potential roster clogger.

Campbell has said multiple times this month “we will douse him in reps.” Specifically mentioned that will continue VS Jax.

Sorry...I meant "play his first game in week 7".

There is no reason to think he won’t.

But yeah, bye week 8, FF playoffs 15-17, so if you draft him you’ll only get 7 weeks regular season production and he’s not startable out the gate.

Just ignore me. I thought his suspension was only 3 games. Forgot that gambling was 2x worse than kicking the tar out of someone.

Our regular season is 12 weeks with 4 weeks of playoffs. I'm going to have to think hard about rostering him. Cost is passing on guys Bigsby/Mitchell/Gainwell/Boyd.

It's more than 2x worse, he's very lucky in that regard.

Does an injury provide any exceptions to allow him access to team facilities? Currently, once his suspension starts, he’s not allowed in the building until week 4.

Just a constant, consistent drumbeat of bad news with this guy. I remember desperately trying to trade up in drafts to get him, but couldn't get anyone to move off their pick. Starting to think I might have dodged a bullet. Anyone able to acquire/dump him in a recent trade? Curious what his current value is in terms of a current NFL player or future rookie draft pick. Seems like current Jamo owners are just gritting their teeth and HODLing.

ETA: Someone read my mind and answered while I was posting...looks like at least some owners have had enough.

For redraft purposes, I wouldn’t think about drafting until you have four dependable WRs. He’ll be inconsistent at best. No one will be surprised when he has a 3-112-1 or 5-140-2 explosion but he’ll have more sub-50 games than weekly winners. Biggest issue is how few games he’ll impact.
  • suspended Weeks 1-6
  • at Baltimore Week 7
  • Bye Week 9
Down the stretch he’s got some juicy matchups, including 4 games v CHI & MIN. Definitely could see him having a big impact in December & January.

Yesterday he had a bad drop in positional drills, which inexplicably he often struggles with. Can’t tell you how many times he gets sent back into the line to run it again. 7-on-7 and 11-on-11, he easily gets separation. But on choice routes he’s often not on the same page as his QB.

In about 30 minutes Dan Campbell will have his morning presser & his injury will no doubt be Q #1. Generally MCDC is a pretty straight shooter, even when he avoids directly answering, you can read his body language. He is by default an optimist who accentuates the positive.

Likely out the remainder of the preseason. They're looking into whether he can come of the facility for treatment (technically no but might be a path to appeal that part of the suspension.)

Anyway, nothing but mental reps for the next 7 weeks.
