WR Jameson Williams, DET (13 Viewers)

Early guesses what round he goes in redraft?

Partially depends on what they do with D.J. Chark as functionally (taking the top off the D) they play a similar role.

Gut feeling rn - he'll be an attractive pick round 10 or thereafter. Can't see a scenario where he rises too much just off OTAs and a few preseason snaps. He's more talented than Chark but you cannot discount Goff is going to favor guys he has a lot of familiarity with. Jameson should be the starting flanker, Chark the X WR, ARSB the slot - and they are in 11 personnel 65% of the time. But I'm not sure Jamo is going to see volume, Amon-Ra will remain the target hog IMO.

If they let Chark walk, he's a certain starter and I think we're probably looking at WR3/4 range. Maybe he creeps into round 6 or 7 in redraft if the hype is insane? More likely, probably round 8 or 9.

Free agency: Detroit will free up some cap space cutting veterans Romeo Okwara, Michael Brockers, and possibly Halapoulivaati Vaitai. They could sign a FA WR but I *think* they'll be more likely to add upgrades on defense.

I don't see them changing course on Goff, they are too close. They will be NFC North division title contenders if not outright the outright favorite with Jared back.

RB - some uncertainty as Jamaal's deal is up and Swift is going into his final year. Williams might want to go get a money bag somewhere else. Naively, I think he really loves Detroit and relishes his role as the team leader. I think he resigns but who knows, it is a business.

Ben Johnson's return or taking a HC job is another factor to consider. However, there are a lot of good candidates out there with more experience and many of them are from successful franchises. He might stick around. He and Goff have a pretty special thing going. The WRs and OL speak about him in a similar glowing manner - he's a really smart. creative guy and they have supreme confidence in his play calling. If they have to replace him that adds some uncertainty.

He's going to go "too early" (draft day perception) in every draft. My guess is he'll be pre-season ranked in the WR15-20 range, but there is a good chance he will be WR1 on one of the best offenses in the NFL and greatly outperform his ADP. Every owner will be targeting him, and there will be 1-2 that will take that chance and grab him early.

Meaningless wrt 2023 but let's look back at WR ADP the first week of September:

Looking that over, I think he goes roughly where the rookies went this year. It's hard to Imagine him cracking the Top 30 when we have no idea how much volume he'll see.

But a lot will change between now and late August and we will have a lot more information that (we think) helps us make a good decision.

Flashed that speed on the carry he had - pretty much a red shirt year but good to see him getting some reps - should be a good discounted buy for next year in redraft

I kind of see it the other way...because he has played this season and flashed, he will have put to bed the concerns of coming back from an ACL...I think people will be much higher on him because of this then if he did not play the whole year.

If he's as talented as he was perceived in the draft he'll be Geoff's favorite weapon. Just like Garrett and London turned out to be. Talent always wins out.

Jameson Williams drafted as a top 20 receiver? I guess I won’t have any shares lol…

If there’s no other discernible talent. Sun god has put in 2 great years in Detroit and become someone that Goff massively trusts. He’s most likely always gonna be the guy that is leant on volume wise I think. We can hope they’ll be a great 1-2 punch though and both have plenty of big scoring games

Yes, and this is exactly what I mean. At least one owner will think he's worth the reach. If two believe it, you'll have to grab in very early.

Maybe…but I would say he would have to show something this last game to get that type of action. Yes his first catch was a blown coverage touchdown…but 7 other targets and no production. He also has a target monster working short to mid range in ARSB. I think he will increase his role and a healthy off-season will help, but I cannot see anyone (even in MI) taking him as a top 15 wr….been wrong before though.

Fair enough. But Garret Wilson smoked Elijah Mitchell and Cory Davis when a QB not named Wilson was throwing the Ball. London started dominating when they realized he was a superior talent and got past he's a rookie phase. Granted Pitts got hurt but still. He looks like the real deal to me. I just have a gut feeling about him. I think he's every bit as good as Waddle and Garrett.

This isbof course based on what he looked like in college as compared to Waddle and Garrett in colloge. If he's as good as them, and I think he is, then he'll be the alpha in Detroit.

Long TD catch called back. Dude is special. He has blazingly speed. Anyone who thought that acl injury affected his speed just got thier answer. With a healthy off-season and training camp he's going to feast next year.

Was coming to type the same post.

Dude is special. Going to be a star next year. He’s showing enough that people won’t worry about the injury.

Jameson Williams was held without a catch on one target in the Lions' Week 18 win over the Packers.

Williams caught a 66-yard touchdown on a trick play in the second quarter that was called back for offensive holding but was otherwise quiet on limited snaps. He failed to eclipse a modest 25% snap rate after making his season debut in Week 13 following January surgery to repair a torn ACL suffered in the National Championship game. That said, he was arguably the most pro-ready receiver to come out of the 2022 draft class, making him one of the top buy-low candidates of the offseason heading into 2023. It will be interesting to see how the Lions integrate him into an offense dominated by fellow youngster Amon-Ra St. Brown.

I am totally over drafting this guy next year.
I assume we'll have to.

He's done enough to squash the "is he over the injury?" concerns.

He'll be in a bunch of sleeper columns over the spring and summer, which will drive his value up.

I love the talent. Eager to see where he winds up ADP Wise next season.

Nelson got his money's worth there - if you're gonna get flagged, at least get flagged on a real penalty and not some ticky tack deal lol

Jamo is raw, but blazing fast

Disappointed that we didn't see more crossers for him

Long ways from being a well rounded WR but has the work ethic and attitude to keep pushing himself to develop

Should help him being around ARSB, dude is a machine who doesn't take any days off

Felt like he dropped a few that he should catch; as Ben Johnson says, regardless of what the box score/stats say, if it hits your hands you need to find a way to reel it in

Gonna be a minute before he's in the Goff circle of trust if they bring Chark back (Raymond and Reynolds are signed)

Should see starter snaps next year but he's gotta keep putting in the work

Why do you think he's raw? He was arguably the best wr in college from a big time school.

In the youtube clip he looked like he was still getting his sea legs back a bit. I think he's a really nice target next year in drafts. ARSB seems capped going forward with all of these various receivers popping off

That's what we heard, often. Not what we saw on the field. Just call it my opinion, man.

By raw I mostly mean time on task. He and Goff just haven't worked together much, and Jared seemed to be just a bit off in his delivery a few times. The crosser in the GB game should have been caught. Week before, Goff was a bit behind him. Right in stride on the flea flicker that was called back, though.

With a full offseason together I'm sure they'll get on the same page. Last couple years jared has hosted the WRs for a week or two of informal workouts after OTAs conclude / before TC. 2022 that included Hockenson, ARSB, Kalif, Josh Reynolds and Tom Kennedy. For whatever reason, D.J. Chark didn't make it this year. Maybe it's just a coincidence but he and Goff took awhile to click. 9 catches on 24 targets in their first 5 games together, 21/28 in the last 6 (Chark missed 6 g.) Goff is the kind of QB who needs a level of comfort before he will take shots with a guy. Any way you slice it, 1 reception on 9 targets is not indicative of a QB-WR combo on the same page.

No reason to think they won't establish that requisite level of trust over the next 8 months or so.

Great info!! Thanks and if you don't mind it would be awesome to continue for training camp. Your point is well taken as well. I'm just really excited about his potential. I decided to draft all young wrs this year and kind of rebuild. I'm in a keeper and I got London, Wilson and Jameson as well as Waddle and Pittman. Thanks again, really appreciate it.

Lions GM Brad Holmes said that what Jameson Williams did this season isn’t even “remotely” close to where they think he is going to go. The Lions rookie WR ended his first season with just 9 targets and 1 reception 1f440.png

Jameson Williams returned from a torn ACL and had just three touches as a rookie.

1. 41-yard TD reception
2. 40-yard end around
3. 66-yard TD called back on a penalty

This kid might be special.
All I know is the gifts he has can't be taught. I'm very excited to see him play next year. The best part is the safeties will pay a heavy price of they try to cheat or bite on play action.

That's where I expect St. Brown to really break out, even more than this year. In theory, you couldn't have 2 WRs who complement each other more. Could be Kupp/Cooks all over again for Goff.

In theory, you couldn't have 2 WRs who complement each other more.

Very much so, they’re a great ying yang combo.

Still hoping they resign Chark. Neither of the younger guys profile as a big body X and they don’t really have another one on the roster. DJ was on Amon-Ra’s podcast recently and while he’s not giving out hometown discounts, he had some great things to say about the culture in Detroit. Accountability is a real thing, awesome coaching staff, they know your kids names lol, et al. He also talked a bit about his time in Jax - didn’t totally trash Urban but pretty stark contrast. Good listen (time stamps in description if you wanna skip around.)

Jamo should have a big role next year, can’t wait to see him after a full off-season of preparation.

Was checking in for the chatter with Chark gone, yikes 🦗 🦗 🦗.
Chark's departure doesn't move the needle much in my eyes. Still very excited about Williams, as I was before.
Where do you see him next season, their 2nd best fantasy WR?
That is my expectation. Unless they go and draft some top-4 WR, and though there are always shockers, I just don't think anyone sees that happening. Even then, I wouldn't assume that he would not be their #2, just a chance he could end up being outshined. Outshone? So, basically yes, very much expecting him to be at least #2.

ETA: He's still a boom/bust guy, though, don't get me wrong. I would definitely not be shocked if he just couldn't get it done consistently enough in the pros, and flames out. I'm just expecting him more than likely to make a splash, starting this year.

1sr Rd pick, Detroit was willing to invest and take him on basically getting nothing back in 2022, just the hope of '23 and the future.

-Fast Forward to now, anyone see anybody in the draft even close to what Williams flashed in college prior to his injury?
-Bad timing so late in the NCAA season but most folks should say sky is the limit this year.

Plenty of time to learn the playbook and take notes, expect big things this season out of him.

Nothing close in the 2023 draft. Not JSB, Johnston, Addison, Flowers, Hyatt. The trade-up is looking good right now.

>>The Lions traded pick Nos. 32, 34 and 66 to the Minnesota Vikings for pick Nos. 12 and 46<<

I assume he'll be 100%, and is going to be really good this year. I think at the end of the year he'll be in the same range as Olave and Wilson in dynasty rankings. He's going to be a MUCH better redraft value. Just need the Internet hype not to go too crazy. All it takes is a clip from training camp and a couple of fluff pieces from ESPN to make his price ridiculous

I sure hope so but the recent history of WRs who performed so poorly in their rookie years is very concerning.

Was checking in for the chatter with Chark gone, yikes 🦗 🦗 🦗.
Chark's departure doesn't move the needle much in my eyes. Still very excited about Williams, as I was before.
Where do you see him next season, their 2nd best fantasy WR?
IMO it depends on the format. ARSB is the clear favorite in PPR format but... IDK in standard formats? I could see Williams finishing higher.

The Lions traded up for a WR with an ACL for a reason. Kid has all the talent in the world.

As the cool kids are saying these days: Better in Best-Ball.

Yeah, maybe but again it really depends on if it's PPR or not.

I'm also not sure ARSB has hit his ceiling. If we know anything about the dude it's that he has a list and is targeting everyone on it with furious passion.

Trading up to get Williams seems like something that puts him on the list.

I will never underestimate a dude with that kind of drive.

Surely you're not saying Jameson performed poorly?
