WR Jameson Williams, DET (1 Viewer)

Jamo’s little brother is having a birthday Sunday, got everybody in the family in town from St Louis. Hasn’t talked to Antwaan Randle El or Ben since they left, “they’re not my coaches anymore.”

These are not concrete reasons to start Jamo. But I wouldn’t put too much stock into a one week sample size.

I’m expecting the Lions to play a much cleaner game. As we saw last night, the Packers are legit. Playing at home versus their old OC - how much motivation do you think that is fueling?

Lions haven’t lost 2 games in a row in 35 months.

I'm more worried about the Xs and Os than I am the "motivation."

The play design and play calling was subpar week 1. Johnson's absence was noticeable. There is cause for concern here.

For sure, can’t abandon fast motion and multiple shifts - staples of the previous 3 seasons. Running zone blocking instead of mixing in duo and gap schemes was another head scratcher.

I see the deficiencies & my football “career” ended 49 years ago. I’m just a fan, but I know enough about their offensive concepts to realize they weren’t playing their brand of ball last week.

That’s me. The guy who has to fix things has been coaching in the NFL for 28 years. John Morton gets to work at 3:30 a.m. Are you going to tell me he doesn’t know how to correct it?

That's all well and good but that doesnt mean arsb or gibbs or even Monty dont get a ton of points and jamo still left with crumbs.

I don't know anything about John Morton or his offense, but it would be really the wrong move to hire someone who was going to overhaul things or change schemes, philosophies, etc.

After this play, Assistant HC/WR Coach Scottie Montgomery told Waymo "I thought you were fast?"

I can't keep saying FINNA

Also TeSlaa 💀

Dude could be a monster.

Now imagine if Goff was able to hit him in stride.

IMO, he's the Desean Jackson of this era.

No doubt, he'll have some ridiculous 5/171/2 type line at some point this season. But it'll be painful to get there and many won't and experience this on their bench.

OMG, 43 yards the first two plays of the game and then barely looks his way again.
Love JW but he's going to have these boom/bust weeks.

There's so many mouths to feed in this offense and game script will dictate much of it.

The running game was looking solid last night and with 2 mouths to feed there, it ate into what you would hope JW would have success in a high scoring game.

The minute you sit him l, he goes off 😂

Exactly. He's the homerun hitting "clear out" guy. Not going to be consistent enough to leave him in your lineup... and that game when you do need play him, he'll either break your back, or give you the high score of the week.

So much for him being a improved route runner
His route running is night and day better than last year.

Also the best sub-185 blocker in the NFL

If you’re gonna have Lions on your team, not much has changed:

Tier 1 Top 3-5 Superstar: ARSB, Jah

Tier 2, top 6-12 at their position: LaPorta

Tier 3, start ‘em if you wanna: Goff, Monty, Jamo, Bates, DST - they’ll win a couple weeks for ya but gonna disappoint from a FF perspective

Tier 4, WTH miracles happen: TeSlaa

I'm not so sure. I was watching him last night and some of his attempts at blocking were laughable.

My CD replacement and I dont even wanna play him 😒
He actually had his dude beat wide open by several steps on that busted play where ARSB cut in front of Goff but whiffed the block. If 14 even chipped the defender a little that was an easy deep TD.

Doesn’t help your box score but there were a couple of opportunities for a big game - just didn’t happen.

There will be better weeks. The way the Lions ground game was working in the absence of Matabuike I’m surprised they threw as much as they did.

He's the exact archetype of player that the best ball format was created for. Frustrating for weekly formats. It's the Gabe Davis experience all over again. I was so high on him coming out of college too, but I also underestimated ARSB. Big whiff on my part.

Big thighs save lives. St Brown is only 13 lbs heavier but he’s an few inches shorter and comparatively thicc. They’ll motion him for wham blocks on short yardage (at least 3 TDs last night), but Jamo has a different blocking role.

10th in PFF run blocking this year out of 124 WRs who have at least 15 run blocks, 4th amongst guys 189 or less.

25th out of 142 who had at least 87 run blocks in 2024 (20% percentile of run block attempts both years); 6th in his weight class.

Skipping through highlights I found 6 instances last night where a Jamo block got them extra yardage.
  • 13:09 1st Q 1st drive Gibbs 7 yard run
  • 8:06 1st Q 3rd drive Gibbs 8 yard run
  • 5:57 1st Q 3rd drive Monty 1 yard TD (Jamo locked up Humphrey)
  • 3:36 3rd Q 7th drive Monty 11 yard run
  • 2:53 3rd Q 7th drive Monty 72 yard run (by the time Awuzie was able to shed Jamo D-Mo was through, Marlon H had to hustle from the opposite side to catch him.)
  • 1:42 4th Q 10th drive Monty 31 yard TD (Jamo was blocking all the way down to inside the way
None of those were pancakes and several were less than perfect, but the difference between a nice gain and an explosive is 1-2 guys hustling down in front of the ball carrier. Even if you’re just getting in the way that can mean a ton of extra yards.

Luka, Ja’Marr, Evans - they all do that kind of stuff. Scary Terry, Keenan, Tyreek - yeah, hehe, not so much, eh.

It’s infectious when two guys who just got paid are out there doing whatever they can to spring teammates. It’s he of many reasons why Detroit is so fun to watch. They have talented playmakers, but much more importantly they have 69 guys who will do anything that is asked of them.

Not sure why they gave him a new contract. Roster was already going to be top-heavy with major salary cap problems in the coming years. TesLaa seemed to be drafted as the JaMo replacement. Curious decisions by a front office who has earned the benefit of the doubt. But just don't understand why you aggressively trade-up for TesLaa and then extend JaMo.

They play two different positions in 11 personal. Teslaa is the X and Jamo the Z with St Brown the slot.

watching TesLaa run that route across the middle that got defended.....he ain't got no Jamo speed let me tell you that.

I think it made sense.

SB contender and as a general rule you want to keep young talent.

Now their cap situation is challenging and they got some big extensions coming their way. But typically those big extensions have smaller cap hits the first two years. So they should be able to extend guys like Gibbs, Laporta and Hutch and not worry about it until it's fairly easy to move Jameson off the books if they are so inclined. His contract is actually pretty easy to trade after the 2026 season.

Sucks for his fantasy value but probably really wise decision and contract structure by the Lions.
