WR Jarvis Landry, Saints (1 Viewer)

This, plus the guy is a great all around player, he is a good physical blocker
This is true, but he also has some anger issues on the field, and takes some bad penalties at times.  It has also come out recently that there have been some issues with poor leadership, and problems with the coaches.  These things are all secondary to overall performance, but as good as he is, I dont think he is good enough to completely disregard these things.  He is a very different player than T.O., Moss, OBJ, etc.  With those guys, you could overlook everything else because their on-field performance was so completely dominant.  Landry averages 10 yards per catch.  He is a very good player, blocks well, makes tough catches, moves the chains...he is a not completely poor man's Hines Ward.  Very valuable player.  But not a $13M/Yr WR in my opinion.  Not unless you have cap space to burn, and a dire need for a slot WR - which some team probably will.

Don't care how much you love him, paying a slot receiver 13 million a year is not the way to build a team.
I agree, but it's worth pointing out that Landry played on the outside slightly more often than he did the slot.  He was a beast in the RZ from the outside.

But again, I do agree with you, and would not want my NFL team to pay Landry 13 million.

Meh.  I'm not inclined to give too much weight to this.  Seems like every Dolphins organization runs out their talented players with this excuse when they are fighting for their jobs.  I'd rather hang on to Landry and hope the next coaching staff is more flexible.

He is averaging 100/1000.  I feel like 13-14 a year is going to get paid by someone easily.

That is basically about the area I have Landry ranked among WR's too. He's probably more well rounded than Hilton, and seemingly not as good a leader as Baldwin, but its the same general tier.
Agreed with both statements.

If I'm Jimmy Garoppolo I'm lobbying hard for him if he's available.

That'd be an especially interesting fit. Garoppolo never really got to play with Garcon, so a Landry/Garcon/Goodwin trio could be pretty scary, since Garoppolo was playing great with just Goodwin.

The Dolphins have really screwed this situation up. They don't have the space to afford Landry. They'd be smart to rescind the tag before looking even more foolish. No leverage.

Maybe the Dolphins know something we don't and feel good about having suitors but I can't help but think this was a shaky plan to begin with and now it's been dealt a major blow with Watkins and Robinson  potentially and unexpectedly hitting the open market. I'm thinking Dolphins plan was that Robinson and Watkins would get resigned or tagged and in a weak FA WR market they would control the most coveted WR. Not so much anymore.

I think the Dolphins overplayed their hand and didn't expect Robinson and possibly Watkins to also become available. Now they're stuck and no one is giving them much for a player they're desperate to get rid of. Would be better off just rescinding and moving on.

He is the best offensive player we have. Devante Parker is a bust IMO. He won't play with any kind of discomfort. Ankle sore? Can't play coach. Calf is a little tight? Can't play coach. Not the answer long term. All the physical tools of a #1 beast.....nothing behind that chest.

He is not a hard worker, and he is not going to be a #1 WR in the league. Simply not going to happen IMO.

Jarvis Landry is the anti Devante Parker. Not nearly as physically gifted. But is an animal on the field and in the gym. Tireless. yeah...he has some piss and vinegar that can lead to some issues with flags and some run in's here and there with the coach. But he is a flat out gamer.

And this is a passing league. WR's are in the same category as CB's, DE's and just below QB's in terms of commanding a teams cap space. He is not a prototypical #1 WR but as he goes....so do the Dolphins. He is one of two bright spots (Kenyon Drake is another) on this miserable offense. And he has done it with sub par QB's.

Pay this guy....he is one of the only reasons I still even watch my wretched Dolphins anymore. I love watching him ball every Sunday. He leaves it all on the gridiron.

Pay him.

I keep telling my Patriot buddies....just wait till Brady and Bill go fishing. It's over. Enjoy this and stop being so freaking obnoxious. It's the QB stupid!!!

Something Miami has not had since Marino hung up his cleats. It has been a long and painful ride since Shula retired (the start of Marino's and the Fins free fall honestly).

It goes back way before Marino to the early 70’s...they even made a Super Bowl with a David Freaking Woodley at QB...it was more than just the Coach and a QB...they had about a 30 year run as a perennial contender...

It is not just the QB (and Coach) it is ownership as well...Miami is not in a good spot in that area right now and it filters right down...it is no fluke a team like the Steelers maintains its success...the Pats are fortunate to be in that same spot...

Agree 100%.

Are the Dolphins still partially owned by a bunch of celebrities that bought in?

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Jarvis Landry might still play under the terms of the franchise tag with the Browns.

The two sides did not work out a long-term deal before the trade went down, and RapSheet reports Landry could play out the one-year tender to get a feel for how he fits in Cleveland before signing a long-term deal. It also makes sense for Landry to wait if the Browns are not willing to guarantee him the value of the tag this year ($15.98 million) and a large chunk of what it would cost to tag him next season ($19.18 million). Cleveland almost certainly made this trade with the intent to sign Landry to an extension, but it does not sound like that is a given.

I am done with this ownership and front office. Just totally done. While I get Landry is not a 14.5MM a year WR.....he was the best player on your roster and now you cast him to Cleveland for a 4th and a 7th? Sign him. Pay a little more since you know......he has caught over 300 balls for you in 3 years and helps move the chains.

Jesus man. Pure garbage. This team, ownership and GM are pure garbage.

Screw them. I am seriously adopting a new team. It is time to divorce this BS organization. Pure losers. Every year. Same ####.

Right there with you. Lifelong Phins fan, but I think I have to move on. Hmm, what team to root for now?

Sources: The #Browns and WR Jarvis Landry are finalizing a 5-year monster extension. The deal is expected to be done today. Huge payoff for the former #Dolphins star.

The #Browns and WR Jarvis Landry are going to agree to terms on a 5-year, $75.5M extension, sources say. He gets $47M guaranteed… crazy for those who considered him a slot receiver.

https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/984447267758313472
That is absolutely insane.  He is a slot receiver.  Guy runs a 4.6 and averages less than 10 YPC.  Real good football player, but in my opinion that is about double his value.  Literally.

I think this move is a sign of the Browns trying to change the culture of their team. Landry is a pro and a good player for their team that is looking for leadership. He will also help the development of a young QB by providing a reliable target on 3rd downs.

The money is comparable to other WR contracts such as Sammy Watkins got. This is what these young good WR are being paid in todays NFL.

Last year Hopkins got $49M guaranteed, $81M total over the same 5 years. Yeah the cap went up a little bit, but yeesh.

He fills a role and fills it well. Like someone mentioned he will be a good rescue target for a young QB and that will be valuable. I think the numbers seem a little high but he does provide an asset. And honestly this is the Brown's....so they are going to have to pay a little more to get players to stay until they prove they are not the laughing stock of the league.
