WR Jaylen Waddle, MIA (3 Viewers)

ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques said rookie WR Jaylen Waddle will be an "instant impact player" in Miami's offense.

The only starting wideout who hasn't missed significant practice time this month, Waddle has become a go-to option for Tua Tagovailoa in joint practices and in limited preseason action. Waddle caught three of four targets for 21 yards in last week's preseason game against the Falcons, with Will Fuller and DeVante Parker inactive. Louis-Jacques said the Dolphins would put Waddle in a position to rack up yards after the catch, using his world-class speed and elusiveness.

If this thread isn't an indicator of how undervalued Waddle is in drafts... I don't know what is.

I recognize he is drawing comparison to Henry Ruggs (better route runner).

I realize people have zero faith in Tua, but I think he is a player that can flourish with a guy who doesn't have an all-world arm.

he's vastly underrated. The past few weeks Tua has looked really smooth. Waddle has looked un-coverable. reports in the joint scrimmages with the Bears were that Waddle was abusing the Chicago DBs.

Excerpt:

What are your expectations for Jaylen Waddle with Will Fuller V suspended?

The Dolphins listed Waddle as one of their three starting wide receivers on the first depth chart of the season, and he figures to see plenty of action out of the slot. Miami will try to get the ball in the rookie speedster's hands in any way possible and, especially against an aggressive Patriots pass rush, he might be a safety valve for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. A good showing in Week 1 could set the tone for what will almost certainly be a plus opportunity for a shootout against the Bills in Week 2. -- Marcel Louis-Jacques

Grabbed him in the 8th in my 12-team redraft. On the train.
I grabbed Antonio Brown in the 8th, hoping to grab Waddle in the 9th and just missed him. Not complaining after Thursday’s results, but sad I don’t own a piece of waddle. I think he has some big days ahead of him, but also believe he will be up and down and lack some consistency.

Yep, which is why he was an 8th round pick and not higher. Brown went in the 6th or 7th in my league.

Jaylen Waddle caught 4-of-6 targets for 61 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' Week 1 win over the Patriots.

It was a nice NFL debut against a tough defense on the road. Waddle's score was a rugged three-yarder where he displayed a nose for the end zone. Waddle's six targets were just one off DeVante Parker's team lead, though that came with Will Fuller finishing up his suspension before returning in Week 2 against the Bills. Often compared to Henry Ruggs, Waddle's yardage would have been the third highest total of Ruggs' rookie year. WR3 consistency is going to be hard to come by in a crowded offense that probably still wants to lean on the run, but Waddle is certainly worth keeping on benches and seeing what happens.

Jaylen Waddle caught 6-of-8 targets for 48 yards in Week 2 against Buffalo.

Waddle was the leading receiver but finished behind DeVante Parker (9) in targets for the second straight week. The entire Dolphins offense was shut out and struggled to move the ball after Tua Tagovailoa (ribs) got carted off in the first quarter. Waddle's short-term value could take a hit if Jacoby Brissett is forced to start next week, but his Dynasty outlook is on the rise with Will Fuller's status with the team in question.

Jaylen Waddle caught 12-of-13 targets for 58 yards in Miami's Week 3 loss to Las Vegas.

Waddle's outlandish volume with minimal return solidified him as the first player with 12-plus receptions for fewer than 60 receiving yards since Brian Westbrook did so in 2006. A field-flipping deep threat with the Crimson Tide, Miami's inconsistent quarterbacking has essentially morphed Waddle into vintage Jarvis Landry, seeing the rookie average 5.0 yards per target from Jacoby Brissett the past two weeks. Although his value in PPR is safe with this type of usage, Waddle obviously needs to be deployed differently to provide help in both standard and half-PPR formats. He'll be ranked as a high-floor WR3/4 in Week 4 against the Colts.

If 12 catches for 58 yards gets you excited 🤷‍♂️

How long you think that stays in place as a game plan? I would bet that will be the high water mark for receptions but I could be wrong. It didn't produce a whole lot and I wouldn't expect the Phins to game plan this many targets for any of their receiver quite frankly and if Brissett throws North of 50 passes again I'll be surprised.

I haven't started reading the posts yet but if you just look at the box score, Waddle did not have an impact on the game IMO despite a large number of targets.

Mostly over the middle, not even yards after the catch opportunities.
Not even screens. He just ran 6 yards, turned and caught a low pass and sat down or got tackled. Gesicki had 10 rec for 86 yards and basically played the same role.

It was clearly their gameplan, quick passes to compensate for MIA terrible oline and LV good pass rush. It almost worked. If you have a moment you should look at their 4th quarter and OT drives. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/202109260rai.htm

His usage is very strange. They have decided Fuller is the deep guy and Waddle is only a short yardage guy.
I didn't watch a second of the game.  But watching the pre-season, I thought they would throw him a lot of underneath stuff to try to give him a chance to take off with it.  I assume that was the intent, and they just weren't able to execute it to where he had a lot of run after the catch opportunities.

Jaylen Waddle caught 3-of-4 passes for 33 yards in the Dolphins' Week 4 loss to the Colts.

The Miami offense did little in the first half of the game and only started to come alive once Jacoby Brissett began to air the ball out. Unfortunately for Waddle, those deep shots were mostly directed toward DeVante Parker, who totaled 77 yards on the day. After seeing 13 targets in Week 3, Waddle fell by the wayside in Week 4. Will Fuller left with a hand injury and did not return, opening the door for Waddle to see an increased role next week. He faces the Bucs in a matchup that should force Miami to throw at an absurd rate if they want any chance of pulling off the upset.

Waddle getting a bump with Parker out?

Sneaky Flex play

Edit: Over guys on my bench Gordon III, Sanders, Connor (Edmunds playing?), and just switched Waddle for Golladay. Hmm

Jaylen Waddle caught 2-of-6 targets for 31 yards in the Dolphins' Week 5 loss to the Bucs.

Waddle added a two-yard rush but has now posted back-to-back down games after going 3-33 last week. His six targets in this one were third on the team behind Myles Gaskin (10) and Mike Gesicki (7), and Waddle's drop led to Jacoby Brissett's lone interception. Waddle will look to rebound next week in a road date with the Jaguars. With Jakeem Grant traded last week, Waddle is now handling kickoff and punt returns, as well.

Might not be as good as Teddy Ginn Jr which set the Miami Dolphins back several years if not more.
Kafarius Toney, drafted at 1.20 seems more dynamic than Waddle. If Miami had stayed at 1.12, we could've had Micah Parsons or Slater, and Toney, and another 2022 first rounder. Grier and his team need to be fired ASAP before they do any more damage.

Unfortunately...the damage is already done.

They burned all their 1st round picks and have nothing to really trade now. Who would want any of this?

Toney up to 7-147, and 2 were great sideline catches.  What made Grier think Waddle was so great? I think it was a big miscalculation, as he may have traded up to get Chase or Pitts.

Jaylen Waddle caught 10-of-13 targets for 70 yards and two touchdowns in Week 6 against Jacksonville.

Waddle was peppered with targets with Preston Williams and DeVante Parker sidelined, and Will Fuller on IR. It's the second time he's been in double-digits this season, with Waddle also racking up 13 targets back in Week 3. Waddle scored both of his touchdowns in the red-zone — his longest play went for 14 yards — and continues to be featured mostly in the short passing game. The Dolphins seem likely to get one of Williams or Parker back next week, but Waddle will be in the flex mix for a matchup against the Falcons.

Gotta love the nonsense in this thread.   Always judge a rookie by a handful of games.   He’s easily the second best WR in this class.

Well, how much of downgrade with Brisset now? Tua and Jaylen had chemistry.
A downgrade for sure, unless they start using Waddle on deep passes cause Brissett has shown a good deep ball, with multiple drops to show for it.  On the other hand, it the Texans, so I wouldn't sit Waddle.

Fire up Gaskin, Gesicki, and Waddle still. It's HOU like you said.

Jaylen Waddle caught 8-of-10 targets for 83 yards in Miami's Week 9 win over Houston.

With DeVante Parker on IR, Waddle continued to dominate targets for a Miami offense that is dedicated to making sure each and every one of those targets is only eight yards downfield. Waddle comes into Thursday Night Football as a legit WR3 candidate on volume alone, but it's hard to be excited about hitching on to Jacoby Brissett vs. the Ravens defense.

Jaylen Waddle caught 4-of-6 targets for 61 yards in the Dolphins' Week 10 win over the Ravens.

Waddle also drew and end zone DPI on an under-thrown pass to set the Dolphins up at the one-yard line in the fourth quarter. The targets were Waddle's fewest in five games, though he has now caught at least four balls in five straight contests. The highlight was a 35-yard reception late in the third quarter where Waddle knew he was going to take punishment from CB Brandon Stephens. He held onto the ball and helped set the Dolphins up for a field goal. Fantasy managers should rightfully expect more in this targets-bereft offense, and will likely get it against the defense-less Jets in Week 11.

PPR machine but MIA doesn't seem to be pushing the ball down the field much. This kid looks like he'll be a stud. The comp to Ginn is hysterical.
