WR Jordan Addison, MIN (1 Viewer)

Who is starting him right out of the gate? I don't think I can do it.
Him or Olave at Buffalo getting 3 yards per catch. Steelers D is just giving away yardage to any WR who wants some. Yes, I am playing Addison, no worries. Might start Wentz over Lawrence and Stafford.

What? Look at his weekly PPG from 2nd half of 2024.

Better start him now before the "lost boy" gets back in at QB.
Last year and this year seem to be very different in game plan and performance. I am not sure we can use last year as an indicator what will happen now.
That because the QB the Vikings opened the season with is not ready for the NFL.
So here is a blind comparison:

  • 11-21 for 158 yds
  • 13-20 for 143 yds
  • 14-20 for 173 yds
Those are the outputs for the three Vikings games this year. How was the game plan any different between the two QB's? They didn't throw the ball more with Wentz. This output is nothing like what the Vikings were doing last year. It's been a different philosophy so far this year regardless of who is at QB. I need to see that change before I trust Addison in the lineup. Last year doesn't mean a whole lot so far this year. That's all I am saying.

Week 3 they were up 30+ pts at half time. Spent the 2nd half just chewing clock. Come on.

Either McCarthy is afraid to let it rip, or they don't trust him to execute the plays (through 2 games). Will it get better? Yes (hopefully), but right now... they can keep him out 6-7 more weeks with a sprained pinky or whatever... again, answering 100% as an Addison owner (I really don't care about the Vikings as a team).

That is an on point comparison. With the uncertainty that things will eventually change he stays on my bench till week 6? He is a must start week 8 when I have 5 starters on BYE.

I get Rice online week 7 then Aiyuk down the road if/when he is healthy enough to perform. Currently Meyers #2 & Nacua #1 and my bench ghost Jeudy.

While I mostly agree with what you're saying, those numbers don't tell the entire story. The first two games were very different than the third, obviously. For seven of the first eight quarters, the MIN offense was basically unable to move the chains. No running game to speak of, and McCarthy was under almost constant pressure (and holding on to the ball too long at times).

Week 3 was a very different story. One in which they didn't have to move the chains all that much. CIN's 5 turnovers (two returned for scores) put the Vikings in a position where the game was essentially over at halftime. Had it been closer, I think those numbers for Wentz would have been higher. They just didn't need to throw the ball in the second half (or the first half, for that matter).

The big difference? Not Wentz. Not McCarthy. Not the defense (which has played pretty well throughout). Darrisaw has made the offensive line different in a night and day sort of way. Skule was a human turnstile.

Ultimately, though, I agree. I'd want to wait a week and see how things look this week (and probably next) before just throwing Addison into my lineup and assuming he's going to be fine. In other words, I wouldn't start him unless you absolutely have to.

I would also say a huge contributing factor between weeks 1/2 and 3 is the Cincy Defense. They are horrendous. I do agree Darrisaw was a huge difference but Cincy defense was helpful too.

Either way, Minny hasn't been using the same offense this year as last....which is my point to seeing Addison on the field before just inserting him into the lineup in FF.

Agreed. And I think that is a big part of what has made KOC (and the QB's he's worked with) fairly successful. What worked for Cousins didn't necessarily work for Dobbs or Darnold. And, there's no doubt that, whether it's with McCarthy or Wentz, they're going to be more conservative right now than they were the last half of last season when the offense was firing on all cylinders. So, yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic about Addison (but heavy emphasis on the "cautious" part for now). Long-term, he'll be a factor, and probably startable. But this week? Or next against that CLE defense? I'd look for better options.

Started him Sunday in my flex. Basically out of necessity because Warren was a late scratch. 8 targets is nice. If he’d have scored that TD it would have been even nicer, but not complaining about 4 for 114.

Likely starting him again this week to keep the Euro Trip alive.

He’s a lineup fixture for me. I started him his 1st game back. The TD woulda been the cherry on top but he had a fine game.

And nobody won game thread hot sauce!

So I’ll launch the promotion again.

If Addison goes for 2 TDs on Sunday I’ll buy hot sauce for any FBG who likes this post. (Likes the post before the game starts* **its 8:17 AM before kickoff and I’ve got screenshot receipts)
