Talent hasn’t even been a question for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon.

With enough natural ability to be potentially a top ten wide receiver in the NFL, Gordon is an attractive piece to find on the trade market – but 0f course – there’s a reason such a talented product is allegedly available for trade.

Off field problems.

That hasn’t stopped at one team, who according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter has made an ‘attractive’ offer for Gordon, but he does say teams are ‘aware and leery’ of the talented though problematic offensive weapon:

What you're describing here is more akin to heroin or cocaine addiction. Alcohol is a far more dangerous drug than marijuana.

I just pushed a trade acquiring Gordon for Snelling and BAL D. Hurting bad at WR wiht VJAX and TY Hilton as only viable options, Snelling was a WW acquisition who loses value as soon as Steven Jackson is healthy. I have the KC D who I feel confident will be similar to BAL over the long haul.

Owner I'm trading to has Steven Jackson so he's getting a quality backup. I also own Rodgers, who I see has about an equal shot at getting time if SJAX goes down for long haul.

While there are a lot of qs in Gordon -- off field issues, team is in overhaul, might be traded into an unknown situation, etc. -- think it's good value for me, great upside and allows me to play Gordon as a viable WR 2 every game.

Maybe I don't see it the same black and white way you do -- I don't think Gordon is an automatic top 15 WR and still a lot of uncertainty that surrounds him and his team. One game does not a season make.

Even if he's not top 15 you still raped the other guy. Snelling is a end-of-the-bench/waiver player. You got Josh Gordon (who we can debate is a top 15 WR to top 30 WR) for a good defense

Not that anybody cares, but I am starting Gordon over Antonio Brown at a PPR flex spot this week. Neither are in the wr spot where AJ Green and Demaryius Thomas are both starting.

That has me going against the wisdom of the community, who rank Brown 10 v. the Vikings and Gordon 14 v. the Eagles.

38 passes for Cle, 9 targets for Gordon (23.7%), 4 catches (44.4%), 71 yards (17.8 ypc).

Cameron seems to be the clear #1 target for Cle but Gordon looks to be getting plenty of looks and, IMO, is a high end WR #2 for the rest of the season.

Agree on all counts. Gordon has high WR #1 upside even this season and I am comfortable slotting him as a solid WR#2 as his downside for this year.

getting off the line and past williams, watching his feet, he moves like a much smaller player (shared by long WR counterparts like julio jones, dez bryant and demaryius thomas)...

tracked the ball well in mid-air, and had an extra gear right before the ball got there to go get it and creating a little more separation (makes you wonder how much separation he could get if he ran that extra gear speed more of the route than just the very end)...

also, nice field awareness, boundary sense and body control (not to mention concentration), to make sure and tap his feet a few times in end zone after regaining control and possession, initially bobbling the catch...

Not that crazy. He appears to be in the same tier of talent, and he has the measurables necessary. Knuckleheadedness and being held back by a subpar team/QB play of the Browns seem like his main hindrances.

First, I totally disagree with the bolded. The DB nearly broke up the pass. I thought he showed great concentration hauling it in (eventually).

As for his hands, I don't recall them being an issue. And certainly not an issue like his teammate, Greg Little.

Waldman had a great writeup on Gordon's skill set prior to the '12 Supp draft.

ya, the coverage was good but like AJ Green if he's one on one he's going to go up, high point the ball, and get the ball 80% of the time.

I saw it too. I'm in the minority according to the downgrade Browns thread, but I consider the drop off from Hoyer to Weeden to be significant. Add to that the knucklehead factor and you could easily see Gordon exacerbating Weeden's ineffectiveness by giving up too soon when Weeden inevitably struggles during a game. This whole situation could go from bad to horrible if Gordon mentally gives up on Weeden. I think it's a distinct possibility and one I'm keeping a close eye on. Maybe Weeden will surprise me, but I'm not optimistic about him at all.

I don't disagree at all with this statement. I never said Weeden wouldn't get him the ball, just less effectively than Hoyer. And if Chaka's observation proves to be a harbinger, then color me even more concerned. If Gordon is a quitter, he's going to have multiple days upcoming where he's going to be tempted to quit on Weeden, IMO.

I disagree too. I think Gordon produces as a high WR#2 low WR#1 the rest of the way. I just think it's a shame that he isn't yet a maximum effort guy because if he was I think he could be in the conversation with guys like Dez, Calvin and AJ. And maybe he already is, in my league he has outproduced those three since his return so maybe I'm wrong.

The Niners were one of the teams inquiring about Gordon:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns and 49ers have "discussed" a Josh Gordon trade, but that a deal is "unlikely."
Per Schefter, a deal is unlikely because Mario Manningham (knee) and Michael Crabtree (Achilles) are getting closer to returning, but we seriously doubt that would stand in the way of a trade if the 49ers were serious about acquiring one of the game's best young receivers. Cleveland's asking price and Gordon's off-the-field issues are the likely stumbling blocks. Gordon's talent is worth a first-round pick, but that's not all that goes into the equation. If it were, the odds would be extremely low the Niners could find a player as good in the first round of next May's draft.
