I have to come clean. In the leagues I don't own Gordon in, I hope he gets a full 16 game suspension and doesn't return. I think he is clearly an addict. In the league where I do own him, I hope he gets off with a slap on the wrist because this is clearly a misunderstanding. Is that possible? I'm torn!

I would be shocked if he isn't personally advising the result of this case (when it's not really his direct job to do so).

I think they are trying to come up with a solution reflects the changing viewpoint on weed while taking into account the seriousness of the PED movement and the fact that he did technically break the rules. I see either an 8-game ban or a year-ban with eligibility to reinstatement after 8 games. Keep in mind it's also possible his argument was solid enough that he completely gets off (however unlikely). The threshold for his test was absurdly low.

at actually believing that one issue with one player has any effect whatsoever on the "overall popularity and credibility" of the NFL. Again, outside of Cleveland and hardcore FF circles, the vast majority of NFL fans neither care what happens to Josh Gordon nor even know who he is in all likelihood. Whatever happens here the NFL will be just fine, and no one will care or remember this issue two days after the ruling.

2-There's not much discussion about Ray Rice's suspension any more, and we're barely 2 weeks removed. Perhaps the "two days" comment was hyperbole, but Gordon's suspension (if he receives one) compared to Rice's suspension will not seriously or permanently damage the league or it's popularity.

3-Vick was let back into the NFL after fighting & killing dogs, and while animal rights groups were pissed, the NFL remained popular. Suspending Gordon isn't going to kill the league.

4-Gordon isn't a big name, not to the casual fan. Outside of FFers and Browns fans, most casual fans don't even realize that he is one of the best WRs in the NFL. He had one great season, but he's not a household name like Megatron, ADP, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, etc.

Obviously, Rice's suspension was way too lenient and Gordon's is likely to be way too harsh, relative to their respective incidents on a rational person's "bad stuff people do" scale. But we're not dealing with a rational "bad stuff" scale here; we're dealing with league policy as written into the CBA.

And either way, suggesting that ANY of this stuff is more than totally peripheral and pretty much meaningless to the league's bottom line or popularity is totally absurd. As mentioned above, Michael Vick was a much higher profile player than either Gordon or Rice, and his fall and redemption was just a blip on the radar in the long run.

Since he played for the Browns it was like a tree falling in the woods with no one around.

I can relate because LT put up an amazing season in 2003 (1600 yards rushing and 100 receptions), led the league in yards from scrimmage and didn't even make the Pro Bowl. He finally got recognition the following year (made All Pro with a worse season) after people realized how good he was but at the time he was mostly ignored by the national media.

1. Totally agree, and it don't think you'll find any of my posts showing any correlation of the Rice suspension having anything to do with the final decision on Gordon. The football media world will make hay with it, but that will die down quickly. The Rice decision will stand on its own quite well, as it was horrible.

I never used the Rice decision to support a lighter or no penalty for Gordon.

I have brought up Lynch and his DWI, only to point out to the masses that were screaming Gordon was toast after his .09 that it just won't matter, not at this time, and maybe never. And the same applies to his other traffic stop where he was cited for speeding, only.

I believe it's been pretty widely accepted, finally, that the only thing in play is the test he apparently failed, or maybe didn't.

Obviously, his All Star legal team put on a fairly voluminous case for the arbitrator to navigate thru, again, I made a call here that his case was "compelling", before the hearing, I'll stick with that assessment.

2. Agree again, the NFL is golden right now, and neither Rice nor Gordon will move that needle off of pegged.

Okay, just so we're clear then. People who care about Josh Gordon aren't casual fans. People on Twitter talking about him aren't casual fans. The fact that he's been a top 5 trending name on Rotoworld for the past 6 months doesn't matter as well I assume because they're all hardcore people viewing him, not casual fans. The fact that you can't watch Sportscenter, PTI, <insert sports talk/radio show here> without hearing his name mentioned at least once doesn't matter either?

Please... anyone who watched ESPN for more than 20 minutes last season knows that Josh Gordon may be the most talented play in the NFL under the age of 25 right now. And anyone who has watched ESPN in the last 6 months knows more than they'd probably care to about his pending suspension.

4-Gordon isn't a big name, not to the casual fan. Outside of FFers and Browns fans, most casual fans don't even realize that he is one of the best WRs in the NFL. He had one great season, but he's not a household name like Megatron, ADP, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, etc.

GO to twitter, and type in "Josh Gordon" into the search bar.

Try and count how many tweets there are mentioning his name. He's probably the top 3 trending nfl players at the moment.

If you dont think he's a household name, you're way off base.. The evidence is right there for you to have a look.

CASUAL fan. People who tweet about NFL, during the offseason, are not CASUAL fans.

The diehard fans (you, me, people tweeting about football in the summer) will still watch the NFL, go to games, buy the gear, etc, whether or not Gordon gets off completely, or is banned for life from the NFL. The argument that the NFL's popularity is in danger b/c of bad press due to Gordon's (possible) suspension is baseless.

This is completely true, but I think it's also a result of the market he plays in, not solely their fanaticism (or lack thereof).

Hey some news on Josh Gordon.....oh wait never mind.

There is still no news or developments regarding Josh Gordon's appeal.

It's been eight days since Gordon's hearing ended, yet a ruling from Harold Henderson still hasn't been handed down. The reason for the delay is unknown. Owners drafting while Gordon remains in limbo can take a shot in the 10th or 11th round in the hopes the suspension is reduced to eight games.

The league is always trying to find new avenues for growth. One of their initiatives right now is trying to expand the fanship of women. I highly doubt the media comparing two games for wife beating versus sixteen for bong ripping isn't weighing on them. At minimum, it helps to explain why they're dragging their feet on the Gordon resolution. Farther away from the Rice story, the better.

Gordon definitely is not a household name yet. My wife and my mom & dad (both 70's) know who megatron is, they know AD , Mike Vick etc .and asked both after reading this thread and none of them knows who Josh Gordon is and I have a Josh Gordon rookie card sitting on my desk (Granted its just 3 people but its telling) . Hes on the verge with another big year but ofcourse that "may"have to wait until 2015.

If this were truly a concern, the obvious solution would have been to drop the hammer harder on Rice. They DGAF. At all. Because in the end none of it matters, even a little, when it comes to the bottom line. The TV contract stays the same, the vast majority of games will still sell out, and a few people will buy Flacco jerseys instead of Rice. That's it.

Okay, just so we're clear then. People who care about Josh Gordon aren't casual fans. People on Twitter talking about him aren't casual fans. The fact that he's been a top 5 trending name on Rotoworld for the past 6 months doesn't matter as well I assume because they're all hardcore people viewing him, not casual fans. The fact that you can't watch Sportscenter, PTI, <insert sports talk/radio show here> without hearing his name mentioned at least once doesn't matter either?

Please... anyone who watched ESPN for more than 20 minutes last season knows that Josh Gordon may be the most talented play in the NFL under the age of 25 right now. And anyone who has watched ESPN in the last 6 months knows more than they'd probably care to about his pending suspension.

You're acting like he's Corey Washington or something. Anyone who watches football on a semi-regular basis knows who the guy is that led the league in receiving last season. It's naive to think otherwise.

Nobody outside of FF was watching the Browns to see Gordon until after his 200 yard game against the Steelers. There's been more talk about suspensions in his career than his play on the field.

Which made the process seem to take longer. The NFL can't hand down an appeal decision on an appeal that hasn't been filed.

Im 90% sure you have 5 DAYS from the suspension being handed down to appeal.

Even without the leak though, it's really not fair to the Browns organization. They have to practice and game plan as if Gordon will be there for the season and training camp/preseason is almost over already. At this point it almost feels like it's intentional, like they're just waiting until right after the Browns Week 4 preseason game to go "LOLOLOL JK! Gordon's banned for 16 games and has to apply for reinstatement next year. But he won't be able to until after your 4th preseason game next year because we waited to long on purpose just to screw him! CAUSE I'M ROGER GOODELL AND I HATE WEED MORE THAN WIFE BEATERS!"

From what I've read, the holdup on the recreational drug policy is the union's unwillingness to trade leniency there in return for HGH testing -- and why would the union make that trade? The only players hurt by the recreational drug policy are very few that can't stop using for a month or so every spring. I'd bet my 401K that more guys use HGH / steroids / etc. than ever get popped for weed / etc. The union's job is to do what's best for the majority of players -- not to cater to the handful of addicts / colossal dumbarses like Gordon and Blackmon.

Can I like something more than once?

I am pro-weed, and would prefer Gordon get no testing/suspension/arrest anything to do with weed.

But I also have a brain, and can process info, #freejoshgordon is about the dumbest thing ever. Maybe people should start using their brain, and calling out the NFLPA rather than Goodell.
